I use the Alberto to tie the braid to the backing, and then to tie the fluoro/mono to the braid. It is very easy to tie after a couple times, and I have NEVER had that knot fail.
Put some mono backing on the spool before adding the braid. Double Uni or Palomar to tie to the hook. Use a Fluoro or mono leader around rocks and use the Alberto to join the braid, and mon/fluoro together.
Then what do you feel makes a reel "THE BEST"? You stated (and I agree 100%) Floogs are the (smoothest, never need service of any kind, takes a lickin and keeps on tickin). What would it take to be the best, or can there be no best?
You can use 50# if that's what you have, but I prefer no more than 30# on spinning gear and like 20# best. I do use mono backing to save on the braid, and prevent slipping.
I am not a fan of Mag brakes only as the Speed Spool has. You should have bought the model with centrifugal brakes as they are so much better. You have a Shimano now, if I were you I'd return the SS and get a Citica.
I sure do apreciate that. Just let me know he address, and time to be there. Also let me know anything I should bring as far as food, and I can help out with fuel as well if you like.
