  1. LC RC 3.5 - I've had good luck with this bait.
  2. Ditto...the spotted bass rocks!
  3. My brother sends me jigs every winter that he makes.(see Jig Candy) He knows I like a bulky skirt and ties 120 strand skirts on my jigs. I fish a couple lakes here that literal has some hawgs and I like to give them a larger profile jig, although I think that every jig has a time and place. It's a matter of preference.
  4. Just a little jig candy...enjoy.
  5. I just received a sample pack from Trokar, it contained 1 pk of 3/0 finesse worm hooks along with a light shoulder bag, two decals, and a Trokar catalog. You can get a free sample pack by going on their site and taking a multiple choice test on their hooks. (You can find all the answers on their site.) I think I'm going to give their EWG hooks a try.
  6. That guy is right, sort of. I worked in surveying and with GPS systems in the military up until I retired in the 90s. Back then signals had 100 meter errors programed into the signal and unless you had military gps that removed these errors, your error on the ground could be 50x50. (50 easting and 50 northing) I don't think these errors are anything like that today as more and more civilian agencies have become dependent on gps. (police, firefighters, etc.) However, they still exist and for obvious reasons. We can't have a bunch of anglers out there with the capability to target critical sites, like rock piles and submerged trees.
  7. Whenever I hear Toby or Haggard across the lake, or any other music, I always get these visions of a couple of good ole boys casting beer bottles out with their Alabama Rigs. Seriously, use headsets or leave it at home.
  8. Is it rigged? (no pun intended)
  9. Hummingbird has a Youtube channel with lots of tips and instructional videos. There's even a few with KVD explaining how he searches for different types of structure. You'll notice in all these videos that the subjects are moving at a slow speed while scanning. SI and DI work better at slow speeds. I've also noticed on mine that just tweeking the transducer up or down gives me a better picture.
  10. Down imaging does not work at speed, you must be at an idle.
  11. Don't take those wild geese for granted, they prey on kayak anglers! Oh yeah, you should know how to reenter a kayak by yourself.
  12. One man, (or woman) one pole, one reel and one lure...that's the way it should be.
  13. Trilene !00% + KVD Line Conditioner = Fish On!
  14. I've been looking for a different look and action for my jig trailers so I finally ordered and recieve some of these. Man, I've been behind the curve on this one, I should have been using these all along. Tested it in my tank last night and am very pleased with the action, especially the two long tails on the bait. Each time the jig came to rest, the tails kept moving and pulsing inside the skirt. I think I just turned my bass jigs into bass jigs on steroids.
  15. Ask these guys.
  16. Yes, some of the traditionally lower priced lures have gone up, Rapala, Norman, and Bomber just to name a few. Let a pro win a tournament with a particular lure and watch the price go up. (Remember that $4 crank that Omori used to win the Classic.) However, I purchase a lot of LC and Jackall lures and prices for most of these Japanese made lures have remained the same for a few years now. I'll also monitor the lures I want to purchase and wait for them to be discontinued. You can realize quiet a savings when this happens, especially for the signature lures. If you haven't picked up some of the LC Rick Clunn cranks, you should before they all dry up. They're good cranks. Take advantage of the specials during the holidays. Between TW, BP, and BTD, I saved over $100 on some new hard baits thanks to their 20% off Xmas sales and other specials. Yeah, oil and everything else is going up, but a vigilant shopper can beat em.
  17. This guy knows his Trilene! I've tried others, but I always come back to Trilene.
  18. Top Water Frogs (Various makes) LC Gunfish & Sammy LC RC 3.5 Wake Bait (This was a killer!) Cranks LC BDS 2 thru 4 Risto Raps 7, 8, & 9 Excalibur Shad-R A couple of old Heddon lures from the 50s Jigs Homemade Soft Plastics Manns Jelly Worm 9" & 12" (Landed my PB with this worm, 13.4 lbs) Rage Tail Anaconda Gene Larew Hoodaddy and Lizard
  19. Tackle Warehouse use to have a program where you could try a reel out and then either purchase it or return it depending on whether or not it was what you were looking for. I'm not sure if they still have this promotion, but you might give them a try.
  20. I'm glade to see the LC Wake will be around for awhile. I had good luck with one year before last until I lost it. As soon as I saw them on sale at BP I stocked up, I'll never be without one again. It works great as a topwater search bait.
  21. If you can get to that spot on the inside of the hull, you can use a heat gun on the outside to warm it up and press it back out. If you've never used a heat gun before you might consider getting some help because you could damage your hull if you're not careful. If it doesn't affect your kayak's performance you might just want to let it be. By the way, you're never too old for kayak fishing. Enjoy!
  22. I was feeling a little guilty when I started this post and I've decided to use some of these lures. I've always been able to take vacations without selling off my fishing gear and besides, what would I play with in the winter months when it's too cold to fish? No, when the wife and I are gone, my kids will probably lay them out on the driveway and end up giving them away to some lucky individuals. In the mean time, I plan on drowning some of these punkinseed and dowagiac lures, there are generations of bass out there that have never seen them and I'm going to give them a proper introduction.
  23. Like a lot of anglers out there, I've hoarded lures over the years, especially when I discover that they are being discontinued. I always keep a couple for "working copies" in my boxes, but some have become unuseable, especially the balsa lures. Some of these lures have been good producers for me and have landed many wall hangers. I've been cleaning up my gear for next year and pulled some of these lures out and I know they need to be retired. Broken or crack lips, finishes almost completely worn off, and cracked bodies are just some of the ills these lures have suffered. I'm sitting on over a thousand of these old lures in my "man cave," still new in the box, that I was saving for what, I don't know. I went ahead and opened a few of them and replaced the ones I had removed from my utility boxes and then I went on Ebay to see what they are going for now. Many of these old lures are going for anywhere from $30 to over $100 or more. I never considered myself a collector, just someone who has had a serious lure fetish ever since I picked up my first Heddon back in the 50's. The wife also knows that some of these lures are worth many times what I paid for them and she thinks I'm insane for wanting to use them. The way I look at it, I'll get more enjoyment using these old lures on the lake than seeing them sit around collecting dust. Am I insane??
  24. I've got three of these rods and when the tackle sites offer their holiday sales I plan on picking up another. You will be completely satisfied with that rod. I never thought I'd like using a rod with a split grip, but after using the Extreme, I've become a fan of this type of handle. It's a very well ballanced, light, and sensitive rod. It gets five out of five stars from me.
