I didn't get to fish much in 2014 due to my wife's battle with breast cancer, but I hope to pull in some hawgs this year. All the bass over 10 lbs that I've caught have been landed using the Mann's 9" Jelly Worm (blackberry) and the Gene Larew 6" Hoo Daddy. There are many good baits out there that yield hawgs, but these two are my go-to baits.
I used Gamakatsu for years and still do for some baits. I'm mainly using Owner now...sharpest hooks on the market IMO and definitely worth the money. Unless they already come rigged with them, suck as Megabass, I'll replace the trebles on my cranks with Owner.
Just acquired...Rapala Husky 13 from the late 70's. 5 1/4", 3/8 oz, runs 4'-8'. The Husky pre-dated the Husky Jerk and was popular among northern anglers and anglers in Europe. Those who have used this lure will tell you it worked great on bass in the early spring.
It's a girl and everyone is fine. As soon as she is old enough, Grandpa is going to teach how to T-rig a Jellyworm, tie a skirt on a jig, disassemble and reassemble a bait caster, and how to paddle a kayak...you know...all the important stuff. Oh yeah, I'll also teach her how to raid the cookie jar.
