  1. Hootie, I have an old 1500C lying in the closet that hasn't been fished in maybe 30 rears. I think I sent it to DVT a couple of years ago for a clean and lube. im the original owner and I fished it for about 2 seasons. No need for me to hold on to it. Let me know if interested. I remember loving that reel!! Better than my 2 5000Cs!
  2. I'm a sunglasses addict. Have about 20 pair of expensive ones I find the Maui Jim to be the best compromise of everything. (very light glass) I like the Green lens Costa 580G best on water. ( Blue if just saltwater) The Wileys for when you are going fast in a boat, car, motorcycle and Cop duty since they deflect debris well. Persol foldable Steve Mc Queen type for "cool factor"
  3. I've had great success with SILVER THREAD. Haven't seen too many using it. I have the 6 and 8# on several bait asters and have been very pleased with it. I bought it in bulk spools a year ago and price was reasonable.
  4. Megabass XX Extreme Mission! Does everything well!
  5. At 73, I suppose I'm one of the "old guys". As a youngster we fished for food. I was so poor that if I didn't catch fish that day, we might not eat. We were "dropshotting" when I was 8. We were "flipping " when I was 16. And we were "Ned Rigging" when I was 17. Funny how all those were "invented" by the pros. We had no names for those techniques but just knew what worked. Your BRAIN is your most important piece of equipment if you thought for yourself more and not just follow the "pros" advice, you might discover somethings that work really well Carry on, Young Bloods!!
  6. You are right Dale! Trying to squeeze it all in as time grows short! And having fun doing it.
  7. I took mine out yesterday just to cast off my pier. Put it on a 7'medium moderate St Croix Avid and 11#Defier I just received. Reminds me of my Steez 103H as it took awhile to dial it in. I was casting a 3/16 oz Jika rig with a craw. I was ok with the casting and kept fiddling with the brakes until I was side arming easily and accurately. I don't think the Avid gave it its best showing. Put it on a Shimano EXPRIDE 6'10" Medium to try this evening. I'm sure it will be better. I'm thinking it's going to take more fiddling to get it where it's even more "effortless" to cast. Strangely, I was testing 2 outfits yesterday: the other a Conquest 50Shallow spool filled with 20" Tasline white braid on a St Croix LTB 7'2" medium moderate custom with a one piece Eva handle. ( I don't really care for split handles) casting a 1/16 oz weighted jerk bait hook with a small Little Dipper. I cast the 70 Scorpion for about half hour and caught a one pound bass. I put it down and picked up the Conquest rig. To my surprise and delighted shock I found the Conquest even smoother and less effort than the 70. With a lighter bait too and it cast farther. It was my first time with the Conquest also. Im thinking maybe it was the small diameter Tasline braid over the much larger 11# Defier. Or the better Rod. I'm VERY SATISFIED with BOTH setups and look forward to more experimentation. ( and I get to compare to Offsidewings Aldebaran shortly!!
  8. Sometimes we pay too much attention to what others think. We seem to be losing the art of thinking for ourselves. You are a unique individual and therefore your capabilities and skills differ from everyone else. Consider making your own conclusions more often than accepting others. In the end you will become wiser and be able to make better decisions. consider and weigh others thoughts; but make your own decisions . YOU decide which ratio works best for you
  9. Got the McCoy green. Already have a couple bulk spools of Yozuri and really like it. Been using it for a couple of years. Just wanted to try something different. In the Murky waters of Louisiana bayous I think you waste your money buying fluoro. Clarity of water maybe a foot at most.
  10. Because of this thread I just went to the auction site and ordered a 1,000 yard spool of 8# test shipped for $19.99. I think it's time for me to try something new. Will put it on the Scorpion 70 on its way. At least it will be a good "first line" to try on it I'm of the opinion that reels are like the pistols I shoot. Each pistol has an affinity for ONE particular brand and weight of ammo. I try 6-8 kinds and find it "likes" one better than all the others. My theory is that reels are similar. Perhaps that is just "skewed thinking!"
  11. I e ordered many and no customs IF you use EMS shipping which translates to USPS here. Faster shipping by FED EX OR UPS MAY possibly be fees. This has been my experience with purchase of over 15 reels.
  12. I'm using the Exsence DC and am delighted with it. Check out Amazon right now for a suitable Shimano/Jackal Poison Adrena which I ordered yesterday for an unbelievable price of $199 shipped. They shipped mine today. Won't last long. Best Buy in rods at this point.
  13. Bluebasser, I'm sure you should hear something today since I inadvertently ordered 2 and Kayo was ready to ship them. Great service by the way ! Should be perfect for the Poison Glorious I got on sale yesterday for $199 shipped! On Amazon of all unexpected places.
  14. Got my email from Japan Tackle today. Told me I was 6th on pre order list and mine would ship tomorrow. If it palms like a Core I'll be well pleased!
  15. Welcome to the club! Now you will find yourself relaxing on weekends when everyone else is whipping the water to a froth or motoring up and down constantly. And let's not forget the busy bustle of the launch site. Or rushing to your favorite hole with 3 boats already fishing it Go out on a Monday and enjoy the peace and quiet. You earned it!!
  16. Ellis, you are going to love the Conquest! I got the 15 Conquest 100HG and am really impressed with it. Like you I'm impressed with my little Curado 50E. I think I have it on a Dobyns 742DX and cast a 1/8 oz Bitsy Jig with a Zoom Jr Chunk. Perfect match and such "set it and forget it" reel.
  17. Like Ellis Juan, I sold the CHRONARCH C14 and bought 2 13 Metaniums. But got those 2 when prices a little lower. Can't see the need for a 16. The 13 Metaniums are a "do everything well" reel! I did pick up the 15 Aldebaran and it shines with light stuff.
  18. Too much lightning in my area. Rains lately (especially today) are more like deluges! The kind where you can't see where you are going . A guy guy and his son took refuge on the porch of a camp houseboat on the river( a place I normally wait out a heavy rain) and lightning struck and killed both . Kind of gave everyone the chills.
  19. It's a new model. Just looked it up and goes for $149 on Kistler site I, too was surprised at how well it cast a medium crank!
  20. Bought a 6'9" Medium Argon rod from Kistler about a month ago when they sent me an email for 15% off so the rod was $127 shipped. Put an Abu Morrum on it and found it to be the perfect crank rod for medium cranks. It loads easily and has a moderate action that is very forgiving. I'm very pleased and surprised at how easily it casts with so very little effort. Just a flick of the wrist!
  21. For no reason I can explain I don't buy or use lizards anymore. Tubes get seldom thrown. Little Georges, Gay Blade, rattle traps: there is only soft bottom strewn with wood debris in the bayous I fish. If it hits the bottom, it's hung and done. Carolina rig:. Pain in buttock to cast.
  22. From my experience one of the great crankbait rods is the DOBYNS 704 CB GLASS!! It "launches" the crankbait effortlessly with a perfect tip action. My new DOBYNS EXTREME 742 is neck and neck with the 704 Glass. But the glass keeps them pinned better since it seems more forgiving.
  23. I put my hook up above keeper but not cover the eye. The bait seems to Hang crooked but you will notice if you hold the weight and pull the lure up, it ***** to one side. That's a good thing since it gives a nice hook set usually in top of their mouth. Don't worry about the way it hangs It straightens out as it falls in the water column Went today but 22 mph East winds howling and I came in soon, fish less. Nice 72 degrees and front coming tonite.
  24. Impressed with the MAJORCRAFT ZONER 55 S!! Gonna order more colors soon.
