  1. I would go with the stx, just fits me better....
  2. I have kept up with the carbonlite and have heard very few breakage issues. The veritas on the other hand has had a lot of breaking issues. The biggest issue with the carbonlite is guide eyes falling out though I think they may have gotten that fixed now. Also think they have gotten a little bit of the handle on the veritas breaking, haven't heard as many recent reports n the issue. Mine has been great. Have landed several 5+ with no issues
  3. Shimano are graphite, carbonlite are carbon fiber. They may have the shimano taper but they are not shimano blanks.
  4. Usually what ever I have In My hand at the time a jig works just as good as anything else IMO. I would like to start trying beaver style baits though
  5. I will its super close!
  6. Bwahahahahah
  7. Here's my humble opnion, I own the veritas micro, mojo, and carbonlite. The veritas and mojo are nice and feel like a hundred dollar rod. To me the carbonlite fishes well above its price tag. The fit and finish are better and it fishes better for me. Also the veritas are heavier than what they are rated, meaning a medium feels like a mh and a mh feels like h. Carbonlite feels like what they are marked as. Also if u can spend a little extra the kistler magnesium are on sale at tackle warehouse. Normally 200 now 120. All of the other rods can be found around the web for 75-80.
  8. Straight flouro for me, like abrazx but am going to try sunline soon
  9. The lews would be excellent at throwing senkos. Stay away from the smoke for light weight. I can bomb 3/8 jig with it but it can cumbersome with smaller baits, the problem is not enough adjustment. I personally throw them with a johhny Morris reel that does really well.
  10. I change as needed or when it gets too low on the spool.
  11. Yup, around the rivers here when it heats up those fish will be right up in the middle of the white water.I feel like I'm fishing for trout lol. Hahaha fished a night tournament on bull shoals and my partner caught a 4lb smallie and got it up by the boat, I tried to net it and it jumped OVER the net and immediately threw the jig. I felt as tall as an ant.......
  12. Hmmmm that's a pretty good idea. Think I will setup something up on my phone to keep track and start doing them in a rotation.
  13. Ok so with my club classic happening last weekend and my tournaments being done for a little while decided I would start going through my reels and cleaning them. As I was doing this, I thought I would try pulling the bearings and flushing them. I have never done this before. I always just added a drop of oil and went on cleaning the rest of the reel. Anybody that has ever thought about doing it should not hesitate and go ahead and do it. I was amazed at the smoothness and distance I gained, granted the reel was dirty and needed cleaning. But it has never cast that great. I thought it would help some but not like this. So to anybody who does this. How often do u do this? I fish bout 1-2 times a week. I usually add a drop of oil bout every two months or so to my reels.
  14. Normally in my experience it doesn't matter that much but I was in a tournament a couple of months ago and I was throwing a black shore minnow spook and my pardoner was throwing a bone spook. They where absolutely killing mine and weren't even giving the bone colored one a sniff. He didn't have a black one and I dug through my box and found another black in a different size. He put it on a started catching fish. Moral of the story......it usually doesn't matter but on occasion it does.
  15. Not saying this never happens, but I have never seen a truck dump fish. In my small club we weigh the fish and then YOU immediately take the fish back to the water and release them. The big tournaments I fish there is usually either a boat they put the fish on then release them randomly in the lake or they put them on a slide right after the weigh in podium and they get a free ride back Into the water.
  16. Wow.........u have some issues. I'm 6'2" 230 lbs and have lived in a gym since I started football in seventh grade. I'm now 28. Needless to say my issues with having a rod that is lightweight and balanced has nothing to do with my strength. performance is directly linked to weight weather u agree or not. Can u move a twig or a tree trunk easier? Why else would EVERY rod manufacture be in a weight shaving war right now. Guess it doesn't say "shimano" it won't do for u............
  17. It's not! I don't know what the changed but they shaved a bunch of weight off. I picked one up today and handled it and it felt just as light as the veritas. I was not impressed with the previous version but am in this one. Think I will pick one up in 6'3" for topwater.
  18. They just had the press conference and he said that Alvarez would coach. Overall I was impressed. He had a very commanding demeanor about him. Think he will do good.
  19. I love it. Think he will fit great and has a great oppurtinty to be something special. The only thing I'm a little down about is loosing our "high powered offense". I know he just hung 70 on Nebraska this weekend but it was in a totally different style. But in the end if he wins I don't really give a crap how he puts points on the board. A w is a w.
  20. Got a 7.6 LM back in the summer right after dark, actually caught another 6.5 in the sam spot bout a month ago. Also got a 4 1/2 brownie. My dad got a smallie that was 61/2-7. We didn't have a scale but it was the biggest smallmouth I have ever seen in person.
  21. Nope they are different. Jerkbaits are longer and slender while cranks are generally shorter and more round/square. Jerkbaits are fished by giving the rod short jerks and pauses which gives the bait erratic slashing action in the water. Cranks are usually just thrown out and reeled in trying to bounce of structure or the bottom to cause an erratic action. Jerks are fished in winter because there is a shad die off as the water cools and the jerkbait closely resembles a shad dying. The key to fishing them in the cold is slowing down
  22. I set mine around half the weight of the line. Works for me......
  23. Huh a Ned rig looked it up as I have never heard of it. Looks interesting
  24. Hey thanks for the offer! That's really awesome of u. But rather than go through all that I will just go pickup a spool. It's cheap and if I don't like it I will just use it for backer.
