I have a magnesium and its great. Seems like recently there is a love/hate relationship with them. Most of it seems undeserving IMO and does not reflect on the quality of the rods they build. Look around on their website and there is an article by Troy kistler that explains his whole business endeavor and why a bunch of people seem to rag on them. Again great rod and wouldn't hesitate t buy another.
Texas rig/jig-flouro I have used invisix, abrazx with good results currently have sunline sniper
Cranks- invisix
Spinnerbait/swim jig- always used sensation but just spooled some pline cxx to try
Topwater/jerkbait- trilene big game
All spinning- suffix 832 with invisix leader
I also have a couple of general use rods that get sensation
Kinda just answered with your last post but some of the newer higher end reels have something other than brass as the gear material. For example quantum smoke as some type of aluminum alloy.

I have been using these. I don't like using heavy hooks because im throwing them on a spinning rod and its a little easier to get them hooked with a lighter wire hook. Also like using these because as u have already found out with the screw n the front the bait last a LOT longer.
I've got a couple of crazy stories.
Was fishing beside a bluff that was about 30' tall. Heard a crash in the brush on top of the ridge then this deer leaps off the side of this bluff crashing in the water while I'm standing there with this stupid look on my face. It then swims over to this little ledge and climbs back up to the top of the ridge it had just jumped off of.
Snake was swimming along beside the boat and my buddy tossed his Texas rig over by pestering it and it latched ahold of his bait. I have pics of it dangling on the end of his pole.
Was fishing and heard a hound dog chasing something and then it and a deer come barreling out towards the lake. Deer jumps in the water and starts swimming across the area of the lake that is about mile and half wide. We watched it for awhile then took the boat and hearded it back to land.
I use a 6'6" mh/f. I am mostly spot casting and am not open water casting so I don't need a 7' for that. I am mostly throwing 1/4,5/16, or 3/8 and every once in awhile a 1/2.
I don't know exactly how much I put on a reel but I fill the reel about halfway with backing then fill the rest with flouro. If I had to guess I would think about 75 yds.
Anybody seen these yet? Look strangely like another rod I have......

Congrats on kicking the habit and getting on the right track!
If u want a veritas for cranks get the winch 7' medium. It will be versatile enough for most cranks.
If u are going to go straight flouro get invisix, it's the best handling IMO and u will need that on a spinning reel. I have gone to braid with flouro leader much easier to use but sometimes have trouble on slack line baits like a senko if I can't watch the line.
