  1. I used to fish those Wednesday night tournaments a few years ago and they are a lot of fun. Kids got a little older and sports kind of put a damper on my Wednesday's, but I'm hoping to get out there for a couple of them this year. My brother in law sent me a picture of that 6.12 and it was a beauty. Hope to see some of you guys out there.
  2. BPS Crankin' Stick. You can get better rods, but you can't get anything better for the price. It's a great rod for a good price.
  3. I’ve got a 735C and it’s a great rod. It’s my 3/8 – ½ oz jig rod. I’ve got a 7’6” heavy rod that is my flipping stick, but I use the 735C more because I pitch and cast a jig more than I flip. I think it’s a great all around jig rod, but would get something heavier if I fished places with lots of grass or vegetation. If I was only going to have one jig rod though, I’d get something in a heavy.
  4. I fished the Wednesday night tournaments for a couple of years but haven't been to one since 2 seasons ago. Typically, it's a 1 or 2 fish tournament and I have never seen anybody turn in more than 3 fish. My kids baseball schedule got in the way of the tournaments and my partner had the same issue. Hope to get out there at least a couple of times for the tournaments this year. Good luck to you.
  5. I personally don't think it is that complex. I would say some people might have a hard time initially because it just "feels" a little different then the soft plastics they are used to and there is a learning curve. Just takes some time to get familiar with the bait and build confidence in it. The reward is worth it though as jigs produce quality fish.
  6. I haven’t tried very many different brands, but I’ve not had the problem you described since using the Gama EWG Superline hook. I’ve been happy with them. I’m thought my problem could have been the knot as well, but haven’t had anything come off since the switch so I’d say my problem was the hook itself.
  7. I fish jigs a lot and learning when to set the hook will come with time. I would imagine part of your initial frustration is just due to being unfamiliar with the feel of the lure compared to soft plastic. I personally tend to wait on the hook set and I don’t have a lot of fish spit the jig on me. That isn’t to say I don’t miss fish, but rarely do I swing on a fish after they have spit the jig. When I say I wait, I only mean that drop my rod tip and reel all the slack up to ensure a strong hook set. A good trailer will also help with the fish holding on to the jig longer. Good luck to you and it will come.
