  1. If I could catch this many quality fish anywhere else I would be there, but believe me once you know the area and how to avoid most, I wouldn't be anywhere else.
  2. The word is out and the fisherman are showing up in full force. The Walleye have been in the river now for about 2 weeks, and the freezer is starting to look good again. It takes a while as you can only keep 4 a day, but by the first of May I will be able to fun fish and have plenty of the finest eatin freshwater species to hold me till next year. This was Thurs, Fri, and Saturday's catch, I finally had to come home and package.,,,,and let the swelling go down in my ankles and knees!! I got this jack Saturday, I think the largest male walleye I ever caught! 29", that is not out of the ordinary for females, but very rare to see a male this large. I prefer 20 to 23 inch jacks but you gotta keep a few slabs for the grill!! Right now after 8 days in row, I have to take a break, my ankles and knees are so swelled up I have to recoup. I have done this for 40 years and use to be there every day wading and fishing 8 to 10 hours a day. But it is hard to leave when catching 2 to 10 pound Walleye all day long, even when you can barely stand anymore. I am having trouble realizing I aint 30 years old anymore!!
  3. This has been my results, the 20lbs test trial I got went on a new BB1 Lews, I will fish it some more this week as I am fishing the Maumme river walleye run off Erie this whole month and with the extreme currents and tubid water running it through the rocky and boulder ridden bottom will be a good test. But I am concerned with the fraying above the knot but it seems to not affect it's strength, we will see what happens when I start fishing it, but off the deck it cast like a dream!
  4. my money is with R.M. on this one, would help to know which reel but if you can work on your own reels try stretching the springs on the yoke and see if it does it, if it don't it is the springs yoke or in that area causing the problem, as M.R, stated most likely weak springs if that does take care of it, this makes the most sense!
  5. Check out the St. Croix Premier, they have been very durable and find them as light and sensative as anything in their price range. They can usually be had for your $100.00 price range, sometimes a little more or less, the plus is they come with a 5 year replacement warranty and are 100% MADE IN AMERICA, good rods at a good price, backed with a good warranty.
  6. Absolutely agree! I will say the Viscous Pro Elite leader material has worked great, I have had nothing but good reports and repeat buyers using it to build my Muskie leaders, but all ends are terminated with double barrel crimp sleeves, I would not expect as good of results if I were tying it as there filler spools have been a let down. The Seaguar Abrazx is all I use anymore under 25Lbs. test, as it has worked wonderful. My search for a good Fluoro ended there.
  7. 1) Jumbo Yellow Perch` 2) Walleye 3) Bluegill scaled with the skin on it 4) Pike 5) Crappie thru the ice
  8. As Lynn Reeves smiles from ear to ear!!
  9. Nice fish, perch are my favorite eating fish next would be Walleye. It don't get no better than that!! ENJOY!
  10. Those reels have had many changes on the insides over the years, but there has never been a reel change in how smooth they are. they just feel the same as they did XXyears ago. I have two that are over 30 years old and they still work like new, but new was never smooooooootttthhhh,,,,,,, but the durability is proven.
  11. That would be any reel they make, they are all SS (Speed Spool)??, what is there normal model?? As far as the TP over a Tournament it has one more bearing and slightly lighter with a carbon handle, Both reels are excellent and I see no difference in performance over either, I like the TP on my LTB68MXF total weight 10.5 oz, so it is a well ballanced very light and sesative rig for deep lightweight jigging. That rod is there top water rod, very versatile.
  12. I have no intentions buying a Lazer SS but for $10.00 I'll buy a whole case, you better buy any Lew's you see for 10 bucks!
  13. Joe this will be dinner later, still working on the supply of groceries from 2012, I have about 6 or 8 packs yet from last year, I will put up about 30 to 40 meals during this run, I always have a surplus and usually have a fish fry once a year for friends and family, no store bought square fish in this house!! HAPPY EASTER!! Don't forget to thank him today fore all he gave for all of us!!
  14. you didn't mention price on this thread like you did on your other, but either one of these reels can be had for right at $100.00, and you wont buy any other brand that has proven itself as smooth with as many options and features for twice that, these things are the best buy on the planet right now, at these prices like I said on the other thread, if you aint happy with you can get your money back, I'm betting you will be like all the rest that buy on, "DELIGHTED"! HAPPY EASTER!! Don't forget to thank him today for all he gave for all of us!!!
  15. I have seen the for less than $100.00 buck's but like I said earlier, I would go for the Tournament with dual breaking, I gave $105.00 for mine and if you watch you will find them going for right at that price today, I just bought the BB1 6.4 and gave $103.00 for it and seen some go for $100.00. Both of these reels perform as good as any other reel I have used costing twice as much! The Tournament Pro can be bought for the prices you are listing and is way way better, my personal belief in that reel is if your going to be any other brand to get a reel as good you going to spending over $300.00, I never pay retail and if I make a purchase like I did on the Curado G I can get every penny I paid back as long as I keep it in the same condition as I got it in. buy any of the three you keep posting on and use these guiglines and you will be sure your not stuck with something you don't like!!! HAPPY EASTER!!! don't forget to thank him today for all he gave for all of us!!
  16. For the price difference I suggest the Tournament, both breaking systems magnetic and centrifugal, Better buy for the money. You have to decide what you want.
  17. For the past week I been getting a "reel" work out (pun intended) tearing up the Walleye and filling the freezer. This is grocery time off of Lake Erie. Fish to 8 lbs. and limits every day of 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounders are making the drive to Toledo a habit for the next 5 to 6 weeks. I have done this for 39 years now, and hope I get to for another 39 years. It is common to catch 20 to 50 a day, and choose the 4 you want to take home with you. The really big fish have not pulled yet but their are 12 to 14 pounders caught every year. These big girls are fun to catch, and very dificult to get in with the size terminal tackle you are allowed to use this time of year where we are. the river is not bad right now as it is still in it's banks, but still running extremely fast, as it is the largest tributary in all the great lakes. It can also be very dangerous and fisherman are lost every year wading in this treturous water, and near freezing temps, 36 degree water temp Monday morning, if you go down in it in heavy currents where most fish are, you don't have long to get out or hypothermia sets in. But after you learn it, and experience the fight with light takle these turbid waters offer and the numbers of fish available, it's hard to want to do anything else while their running the river. The best part is their the best eating freshwater fish available. This was Monday morning and what I try to bring home every day, 22 to 23 inch would be my ideal keeper but they just started in so this was yeasterdays catch. I won't fish the holiday weekend, just to many idiots out their and it will be shoulder to shoulder. This will be the last week when it is this peacefull, the word is out and the crowds are comming! My Good Friday catch. 24 inches to 19, the 19 inch fish on the right was a Sauger, about the same as a Walley but they are usually a little thicker and deeper profile but eat as good. They are few and far between but always nice to pick up something different when catching so many Walleye!
  18. Yes sir it is a young mans sport, I am a little busted up but my days of throwing double tens is over, and they were not as hard on me as the pounders and big divers. I used to love thowing them all day long hour after hour just to get a couple shots at a 50+ incher once a season. I found a 50 inch fish doesn't come along every year, even fishing Indiana and Michigans rearing lakes for Muskie and when you do, just because you have 65 Lbs. Braid and the right stick don't mean your going to land them. They know where and how to find the cover!! I haqve sold most of it as throwing and retreaving those lures all day become to much for the aging body, I now troll or use live bait when I target these freshwater waterwolfs!!
  19. It's a Walleye, my suggestion would be with a fillet knife! I have been killing them for the past week off Lake Erie in the Maumee River, this is their annual run and the Jacks that size are the best eating you will find. I prefer 19" to 23" as the best for the skillet! I usually catch 20 to 60 a day this time of year, I am only allowed 4 a day but by the first week of May I will have the freezer full and other than a few Bluegill and a couple Pike, Yellow Perch are the only fish I will keep the rest of the year, but nothing eats better than Walleye and Yellow Perch.
  20. I agree with the 2500 Stradic FJ, the 3000 is nice but lighter by like .1th of an oz, not enough to notice but has a larger handle T knob than the 2500 that would be similar to the knob on your 1000f Saros. The handle knob and line capacity are the only difference in the two. The finest reels made under $250.00 retail, if you look around they can be had for $135.00 TO $140.00, and as the hooligan said would make an excellent match for you rod!
  21. I have both and like them both. It is personal preference, If you want dual casting control the Tournament, The BB1 as you said has a deeper spool to allow more line, and a power handle and a more aggressive centrifugal brake, with no magnetic cast control, and a spring loaded quick acces pin to remove the side cover for break adjustment. They are all Speed Spools, and all have minor differences, all perform admirably and it just depends on the specifics you want. I also own the Team, Team Gold, and Tournament Pro, the Team and Team Gold are a bit smoother and just feel better to me. The rest perform about equal with the only minor optional differences. You will be happy with either one.
  22. I think a lot hear have posted to an overly defensive mode for Shimano. The thread isn't about if the G is good bad over priced or even if it performs as good. There has been a proven fact the the Curado G has cost Shimano many sales. The fact that this happened is the result of introducing a new series in this model that was CHEAPENED and so was the price. The people who use these reels has spoken and it is clear to Shimano that their are some who don't care if the real is better as long as it works properly. BUT It is also clear to Shimano that they have lost a ton of sales to other reel companies because their are a huge following that do expect the next model to be built with better component's and be a noticeable increase in performance. Those are the facts and anyone who has been on any forum that pertains to fishing is well aware of those facts. I for one don't buy reels because there is anything wrong with the over 25 that I currently own, I buy them because I can, and because I expct my next purchase to be built better with better parts along with better performance, and am willing to pay a little more for the next one than zI did for the one I am looking to replace (upgrade). As far as if Shimano cares who and howmany sales drop with the next reel I am not sure, but I personally think they do, and will see a much improved Curado when and if they ever introduce a new model. if not I don't care if they sell 2 for the price of one they are currently selling, I will look for more performance and bling elsewhere. I also believe J Francho was correct in his post and probably has pretty good information when he said there were good things to come from this company. After all they didn't work so hard to get to the top to start loosing sales on any models they sell.
  23. I could catch fish on a buble pack Caenan @ about $60,00, and not loose fish. I aint upgrading a Curado B,D, or E to buy one. As said they don't cut price and give you a better Curado! Probably why you didn't replace yours with G's, nobody wants to trade down! I don't think the fit or finish is any worse than the other Shimano models, and you hit the nail on the head, They cheapend up a current model, along with others, and even if some don't think this is their flagship model, it was their top seller. I said it before and you said the same thing, when you cheapen a model it doesn't matter how much you drop the price, "MOST" buyers especially previous owners are going to abandon you. If they don't do it and do it right their will be many that will be hard to get back. They are going to do the same thing with the Saros, Symetre, and Sahara, as they were cheapened up big time with the new models, I don't know what they are thinking but a lot of other manufacturers are doing the same thing. There are a lot of people who don't care about quality as long they don't raise the price, I do.
  24. Wonderful reel, excellent gear ratio, and fabulous price!! GOOD JOB! Enjoy!
