  1. The ones I have fished in the past which are many, have fished true to there rating. They are very durable and good sensitivity. much better than there price reflects. The BB is what I furnished my clients the last several years I ran them.
  2. It is a fun rod for your intentions but you have to platy em. I like MXF but, when you use a MLXF you wana be in open water, it is not for pulling fish out, once the hit the weeds your done, unless it's a real skippie!!! enjoy have fun!!!
  3. What he said!! Take your time and don't force one side, keep it even back and forth!! GL!
  4. For $130.00 and a new rod,,,,,,St Croix Premier 7' MHF if you fish around much cover,,,,,,in open water Maybe the same rod in MF. If you want better quality and don't mind used,,,,,, St. Croix Avid same length and actions,,,,,,Good Luck but that would be my only choices in your price range.
  5. That would be the best part of this introduction,,,,,I really have no use for more reels and if I did they would have the Aluminum frames!! With that said,,, don't be expecting the price to drop on the E series anytime soon, I would think you will see them bring a premium with others fearing Shimano's famed extinction of well proven reels,,,,,I agree with others, look for them to be gone in a couple years. It is the new era of plastics and composites,,,,,,,,
  6. Tough bite and if it's dirty AND RISING,,,,,,,I'd find somewhere else to fish, hard to get a bite going in muddy water but rising I would wait till it starts dropping, and expect it to get better after a few days dropping!!
  7. wee teeny craw, I have had day's when it's really hot out and slow water thaqt the tubes weren't producing but these little hard craw baits would entice a bite??? It don't cost much to be safe. The other thibg I have done great with when it's really hot out is fire up the fly rod, rusty or chartreuse woolybuggers and small floating grass hoppers, hoppers early and late and buggers mid day! good luck
  8. Thats a great fish, but I'm wondering if there isn't some trick photography going on,,,,,,,,,,,,,CAUSE THAT DANG SURE AINT A BIG ENOUGH SMILE ON YOU FACE!!!!! really though that's a nice fish,,,CONGRATS!!
  9. My Super Duty is on an older 7'6" BPS Extreme MH Musky rod, it pulls double duty as a crankbait rod for lures up to 5 oz. fo Musky and a heavy duty flippin rod for bass in heavy cover, I chose the 5.4:1 gear as Power is what I want and don't ever worry about speed, if I were only flipping and pitching for bass I would have went with the 6.4:1 gear ratio, as I think it is the most versatile all round gear ratio!!! and yes they are referring to the Tournament Pro
  10. sent you a PM you may be interested in?? GL
  11. as said any decent reel made today will handle braid when set up properly!!! 15 or 20# mono backing to braid is my choice on bass gear! Just use lighter or heavier mono on other gear depending on the size!
  12. I agree Hootie, I better not post hear,,,,,,,,,,,I'm in the wrong spot,,,,,,,,I was just using my brain!!
  13. The TP is a nice reel and better for a lot of things,,,,,,BUT fur Flippin, Super Duty,,,,,as a big crankbait reel or a flippin reel I would grab my SD every time over my TP heck for flippin I would grab my Super Duty over my Team Gold's,,,,,,,,but that is what that reel was designed for and deep crankin, hence the name. I got mine for less than $100.00 new and shipped. They are sweet for heavy duty use!!!
  14. X2 MH/F 7' if I only could have one! for that price mine would be a used St. Croix Avid or new St. Croix Premier!!
  15. The Super Duty is a much better reel and especially for cranking, Mag braking that is very good, and cast great with lures 3/8 and up, as that is what they were designed for hard pulling big baits, and very small for what it is. I am sure anyone who has actually used the Super Duty and would actually have hands on experience to backup their comments would agree, I use it side by side with a Calcutta 400B for the same lures and it is as efficient at this in a super small package, for bass cranks it wont even break a sweat!! It is a smooth as silk work horse that will last a lifetime pulling bass cranks. I think after a couple months pulling double 10's which are harder pulling than any bass bait, not to mention Super Shads at 5 1/2 oz. and 11" long Musky diver that runs around 16'- 20'. I am not guessing how sweet this reel is, or how well it is made, it will be around when the PQ pukes if you try this with both, and I can say I have been there done that!! The Lew's teem gold is a much better reel, but I would not recamend it over the Super Duty for the use and price range you are refering to, as it is more than needed and not even in the same class as the PQ and similar reels. I am suggesting a reel that can be had new for around $100.00 that has no equal as a crankbait reel for that price range, I like to keep it "reel"!!!! Just check it out buzzfrog, don't make your decision off opinions!!!
  16. I got trashed for telling how I FEEL ABOUT THEM, they are the finest rods on the planet, Legend Elite if you want full cork handle, I had my extreme changed to full cork, and it is every bit as sensitive as it was before, and I have fished most premiums out there. One word,,,,,be prepared, if you buy one expect to want more. I hear a few argue that,,,,,,,,but the ones I am aware of that do,,,, have never fished with one,,, let alone owned one,,,, and they called me subjective?????????????
  17. I think they are comparing them to th FJ model, it is noticably smoother and quieter, with more cranking power.
  18. Whenever they need it.
  19. You wont compare a BPQ to a 5.4:1 Super Duty for smooth and powerful crankin, with a great super smooth and powerfull drag, and on a crankin reel you will be throwing over 3/8 oz lures or more, which is a breeze with the SD's braking system, As a comparison I sold one of my Calcutta 400B reels and replaced it with a Super Duty for Northern Pike and Musky dragin lures over 5 oz and double 10 spinners with ease. If they had a bait clicker on them, I would sell my other 400B, and they would be all I use for this type of fishing. The Super Duty w/5.4:1 Gear will make the BPQ feel ANEMIC!! gotta feel one in action and cast it to believe it!!!! And I paid less than $100.00 for mine new and shipped with no tax!
  20. YES!! most tackle shops can do it while you wait for a couple bucks, the price of the guide,,,if you don't want to do it yourself. It is one of the most importand guides on you rod and will be vary hard on your line if you don't repair it.
  21. I am no Ci4 fan,,,,,but I would have to agree!!! any model!! after an observation like that I would have to doubt the validity of any recommendation's!!!! There are some who think a cane pole is all you need to catch fish,,,,,,,,,,,,,I pay very little attention to their recommendation's also!
  22. I wouldn't let the tip heavy part bother me, but I will say it will be noticeable fishing it. With that said I bought a pair of Extreme's in the bargain room last year and as Bluebasser said 1/2 price actually 2 for less than the price of one delivered!! Even with the REC guides they were both tip heavy, and after a couple outings and the fact I "hated" the half cork two piece handle I had my rod builder take care of both aggravation's. the handle and balance was $50.00 per rod, and custom made the way I wanted it, and still less than 1/2 the price of the new 2013's which are heavier and,,,,,,,,well no cork, to each their own. But for 7 dollars my rod builder will internally balance any rod!! so if it is what you like and you will like the sensitivity and perfect taper of these blanks actions and backbone of the legend blanks, you can have it comfortably and perfectly balanced where you want it balanced, for your type of fishing for around "7 buck's" by a reputable builder, what is not to like, so there is how you have your cake and eat it too, My extremes are the most sensitive rods I have owned in 58 years of fishing most everything out there,,,,,,,,you will love that LTB I am confident!!! There it is my way, perfectly balanced with an open hand right where I hold the rod, by having it balanced by a rod builder you never have a chance of the weight coming loose or seeing it and you have it balanced where you want it, it's your choice!!! Gotta say you can trust Dwight's recommendations, he has fished enough high end tackle to make an educated recommendation,,,,I did and couldn't be happier with the 6'10 MXF or the 7'2 MHM, THANK'S AGAIN DWIGHT!!!! You nailed it and I couldn't be happier!!!
  23. You will be very happy with the TP, after you go through with the Chronarch you will know why those that have had both love the TP,,,,,,or after you get the TP and use it,,,,,,,,you may want to look at a Team Gold, they go for around $175.00 and in my opinion are a nicer tighter smoother reel than the Chronarch, I have 3 and 1 original Team, and I don't think I could replace them with another reel for twice the money!!!! But See what kind of bang you get for your buck on the TP,,,,,,,, that's going to be a "SWEET SETUP",,,
  24. Kinda my thinking was the faster rod and weight forward line in 10wt. would make my flyrodding less fatiguing and since this is from the boat, I was planning on the 9', as I have plenty of open space and the longer rod with it's leverage would give me the 60 to 70 feet without really laying into it to get that???? The 7wt. I have now I would not get rid of, it is a sweet smallie rod on the bigger streams and rivers, and after nearly 15 years it's found a home. It is plenty of rod for bigger trout and bass in open water, I just want to try fly fishing for Pike and since my Ultra was a little anemic for bass of any size in thick vegetation I new I could justify the purchase because if I don't like going after Pike with a fly,,,,,I love going after bass in the slop!!! So it will get used, and I am sure I would prefer the 7wt for smallies and the few trout trips I do. If I buy the 10 wt.,,,, hell I might just try hittin the salmon run off Lake Michigan with a fly rod, or even a trip Francho's way in them fast waters off Lake Ontario???? Thanks for the tips guy's!! I love spending the money on the premium equipment and and like my LA Redingtons, but maybe I'll spring for a Ross on this one,,,,,,,,it makes you appreciate the sport even more!!!!!
