  1. The Tournament Pro is the best bang for the buck between it and the The Tournament. The Team is a much more refined reel same parts as the TP but more solid and all aluminum side plates. Smaller than the 200 size but with stronger drags and more line capacity, and cast small lures better, the Team Pro excels at this with it's different spool design. The BB1 has an improved centrifugal brake system over the Shimano, both are 6 pin, but the Lew's uses 2 are full time and continue to work as the spool slows as the Shimano but 4 are automatic which retract as the spool slows. It is its own size as the frame is larger and the line guide extended further forward, this creates less friction as the line pays out from each side of the spool, allowing longer cast with lures larger than 3/8 ounce, I don't use it for lighter lures as the other reels I mentioned are much better for this purpose. It is a great cranking reel, but does not feel as refined as the TP and Team reels. For what you are wanting it for, nothing over 1/2 oz. The Team Lew's Pro would be the reel I use, my second choice would be the Tournament Pro, their 2 lightest reels, in 7.2:1 if weight is no concern the Team Lew's Gold,,,,,,,,,,they are SWEET,,,,, as is the Team Lew's Pro.
  2. I am a big fan of the Lew's Baitcasters, but when it comes to their spinning reels I have never been a fan, I am quiet sure from the ones I have seen and those that have them Hi Sal's response is the norm. I hate to say it but I thought maybe with this new reel Lew's was going to break into the spinning reel market with competition for the Sahara but I think I saw this coming. I will continue to recamend Shimano to all looking for the best spinning reel in any price range, but when I recamend Baitcaster, it's Lew's all the way and I won't look back with either of those choices.
  3. I have said it before, if you are not extremely efficient with a baitcaster a super tuned reel will likely cause you more problems, if you are efficient with your reel, and want more distance it will do that. But the most benefit you will gain from a properly supertuned reel is smoother cranking and drag, with less effort and more accurate cast and good distance, longer cast to those who have a well trained thumb is secondary.
  4. This is your problem if the level wind is working properly on your reel. Tying of center tension to tight or reeling to fast have nothing to do with line stacking evenly, only if you are keeping it with tension off center to one side or the other. This is very common with users new to baitcasting.
  5. St. Croix would be my only choice, tried others and always went back to St. Croix regardless of action or length. Personally I prefer the LE 6'10" MXF, but if your on a budget the LT would be my choice that way you get not only a lifetime warranty but the best warranty in the business!!
  6. the Tournament MG is less refined and not the same reel, the Super Duty is Much smoother and more powerful, has 11 bearings, the soft touch finish which is a little more durable than the standard Tournament has, its a better choice then the MG and it is in the same frame size.
  7. For your budget, the St. Croix Premier in the PC70MHM is a great premium rod for cranking. The Moderate action is a big help with treble hook lures, and the St. Croix is legendary!
  8. Nice lookin,,,enjoy!!
  9. That verdict has been solid for some time,,,,,Shimano is the clear front runner in spinning reel's it would be fugal to argue that point!!! There may be those that prefer others, but not because there higher quality!!
  10. That is a sharp look'n reel. The inch per turn is right up there with the Stradic 1000, My FJ is the same inch per turn but slightly slower with a 6.0:1 gear ratio. So the Lew's would be just ever so slightly smaller in diameter on the spool, if one of them isn't fudging their spec's a little, (they would never do that,,,,, ). The .2:1 would never be noticeable it is so close. The real test will be if it will hold up with the Sahara a comparatively priced Shimano. Keep us filled in!!
  11. we'll be waitin on that report when you run it a while, enjoy!
  12. Thanks J, guess I'm old fashioned, when you work in this industry for so long you become acquainted with others with there own unique talents that make appreciate your preferences even more!! My rod builder also internally balanced them to perfection with the reels 6 to 7 oz., the 6'10 MXF has a slightly smaller taper from the seat to center and flairs back out at the but cap I prefer the smaller feel for finesse techniques, the 7'2"MHM has a little beefier feel and barely flares at the but cap and feels better to me for heavier rigging, Carolina rigs etc. and bigger cranks. I just let him work his talents, at $50.00 a rod for everything built up from 1/2 wide cork disk's he supplies, he works way to cheap,,,,,but I ain't tell'n him!!
  13. enjoy that new BB? HiSal. fill us in on which reel??? Lew's just keeps going forward, I switched over 2 years ago and see no reason to ever look back!!!
  14. X2,,,,,, And don't let them tell you they need to break in. I herd a clerk at bass pro tell a guy that about the older CI4 a couple years ago, ticked him off cause I told the guy if ain't right out of the box it ain't never gonna be!!!!! take em back.!!
  15. I didn't know they made rods with anything but CORK?????? Make mine a full cork handle, if it's not,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I have them fixed!!,,,,,,,,,,
  16. Put line on it and try it, I can't believe it isn't ready to use and the plastic disc are probably spool shims that are only used for setting up a spool to wind different from normal, most will be perfect as sold. Try it and with use you should figure it out. Ask if you find it isn't ready and you will be better prepared to explain what you need help with. I'm pretty sure your new reel is ready to use!!! Good Luck and enjoy!!!
  17. Team Lew's Pro is awful hard to beat, based on Lew's triple "S" concept,,,, SMOOTH, STRONG, & SWEET,,,,, it is one package that at 6.1 oz. fully loaded with your favorite braid would be awful hard to beat, I am very impressed with mine!
  18. I have at least one of every Lew's model from the Tournament on up, for over 2 years now they continue to perform better than other brand reels that cost over twice the price. The Super Duty is a great reel for big lures and bigger fish, I use mine on my heavy flipping rig, and for Northern Pike and Muskie. It is a heavier and larger frame reel which I prefer the feel of more on big sticks for heavier work. You would be better with the smaller frame reels, I mainly use the Team Gold and Team Pro , Tournament and Tournament Pro if you want to use them for light tackle, 1/4 oz or less up to 3/4 oz. The BB1 Is great for crankbaits and swimbaits where long cast with 3/8oz and larger baits are being used, but also is a larger framed reel than the ones I mentioned. I think for your 150 price tag the Tournament is a good choice, and cheaper if you look around, the Tournament Pro is also a reel steel and can be had for your target price. Good Luck, choose a Lew's and see why I say they are the best bang for the buck, and the best CS in the Industry!!
  19. Only to some, to others it is a good thing. Just a personal choice, handling, strength, abrasion resistance, are the reasons I choose 832, noise is no more than others as far as I am concerned, but if it was all the other benefits you get are what make it my #1 choice!
  20. lure and type of technique you are using mater more for the type and rod action you need, line type is a minimal consideration for determining action, in most cases the technique will determine the rod power and action.
  21. This is only on the 5.1:1 BB1 reel, all the rest are instant anti reverse, the 5.1:1 has the old anti reverse pawl, all other Lew's reels have the Instant anti reverse bearing. out of everything you mentioned I would only suggest the Lew's, the Mg would be one I would leave alone, the Tournament, and Tournament pro would be my choice and both can be found under $150.00 if your patient and look around! The new BB1 Pro and BB1 both have the multiple stop pawl on the 5.1 reels and the BB1 is still cataloged. The BB1 Inshore, and BB2 wide spool do not offer the 5.1:1 gear ratio so they are all instant anti reverse.
  22. Sufix 832, Ghost,,,,,best Braid,,,, no dye so it doesn't bleed!!! Best of all worlds, and real abrasion resistance, you won't get with other braids!
  23. I am a best bang for your buck guy! If it works better for less I am in! Seriously, I didn't sell my Chronarch's Calcutta's and Curado's, because I wanted to downgrade my equipment,,,,,lf you don't try em all, you never know what you like best, and will always be a brand Loyal guy, not me. I wouldn't have chose my Tournament over my Chronarch, but I wouldn't choose a Chronarch over a Team Gold, or a Zillion over a Tournament Pro and after using a Core, I think this Team Pro will stack up with ease! I believe any reel Lews makes I would have to spend twice as much (suggested retail) to buy better! Same with spinning gear, I cant find a reel better than the Stradic for less than twice the money either, they are all on Avids and Legends also,,,,,,,,for the same reason!!!
  24. Just scored another Lew's Team reel, this time I finally got a Team Lew's Pro, I have said it before about the regular price and the Lew's Team Gold, I don't think there is a real available at twice the price that can compare to these real's. They are unbelievable. I found a Team Pro, brand new, but someone had stolen the spool from it. So I made an offer to the clerk of $100.00, without the spool and out the door, and after checking the owner said sell it???? I got the box paper work warranty everything, "but the spool". I instantly called Rick at Lew's when I got it home, and found the new Spool complete with the pinion bearing and drive pin, was only $60.00!!! Talk about grin from ear to ear. I got the new spool in it Thursday, and must say, these are ssswwwweeeeeett. I had it out this mourning and I have to say, it is everything I thought it would be and more, these reels are unbelievable!! Paired up with a St, Croix LBC68MXF @ right at 10 oz. It cast great and was smoother than silk, the drag is excellent, and using light to weightless soft plastics I caught several bass between 12" and 18" this morning, nithing huge but a good outing for a first time out. I will post a review after a better testing. Until then it will be right at home with the rest of the TEAM!!
