  1. It is very personal, what works for me may not work for others, like lipps said, hold it the way that suites you and your manner of fishing best!! That could be different for different types of fishing,,,,or should be!
  2. X2 they honor stuff that shouldn't be is my experience!!! I shop Cabelas for hunting and camping, BPS for fishing, and for over 30 years this has been my experience with both of them!
  3. Only use an improved blood knot, never lost a leader, always at the knot to my hook, unless I get lazy and let frayed line get me, but still never loose a blood knot.
  4. I prefer a baitcaster for covering a lot of water, and heavy cranking, which even that is starting to bother the joints, (wrist, elbow, shoulder) so will be doing a lot less with my joints and spine the way it is. For everything else I prefer spinning, any time I fish light, I prefer spinning, a lot has to do with being right handed, and have for 60 years fished with spinning rods in my right hand, and casting rods in my left hand, I can detect lighter bites and distinguish more feel with my right hand. As for fishing large species such as salmon Muskie Red Fish and others, the only way I have found to comfortably use casting gear to retrieve these heavy hitters is with a rod using spiral wrapped guides, otherwise to much torque on the handle any more, and then spinning is much easier to handle, and with the drags today on quality spinning gear, there really isn't anything it wont do!! O like having both, and think having both make the fishing experience more enjoyable and efficient for anyone. I would encourage anyone to learn how and when to use both, they do both have a purpose.
  5. Good Luck Ghoti, if you find that human intuition machine you will surely be a rich man!!! But I don't see how any machine can be as different as a human nervious system is from one individual to another??? I have to agree this is very subjective. There are several blanks that would be hard to distinguish more or less sensitivity from one to the other when built with the same components in comparative power and action!! DVT said it pretty well, these top blanks require certain components to withdraw their best sensitivity. Most would not be using many of these components as they would not enhance the rest of the rods fish ability, or personal preference's. I think if anyone chose a SCV, NRX, and maybe NFC, but haven't used an NFC blank as of yet, any of these three I believe you could build your PERFECT,,, most sensitive rod. But most would not be happy with the components needed to create the MOST sensitive! Like I said I think the ultimate in sensitivity can be had with any of these blanks I mentioned, I also would only pick one, and that is because I believe it is not only as sensitive as the other two, but am convinced it is the toughest of the three, it is available in more options than the others, it is lighter in comparable length power and action, than the others, and is backed better with more options if you ever needed the warranty, that is the SCV more sensitive than I need, and pretty sure the Loomis NRX can't even be had with a warranty unless purchased their way!!! Lastly I have to think that once you get past a SCIII Croix or IMX Loomis, quality blank's you are using a more than is necessary to to distinguish what you feel on the end of the line blank!! I have aprox. 23 Avids, Legend Elites & Extremes, and G. Loomis IMX rods, and have owned NRX & GLX, any one of them will let me instantly tell the slightest difference in bottom or bites. I have several custom Legend, Elites, Extremes, and Avids. I am building a custom rod now in a 6' LF Avid blank, I used this blank because I can't see how I would benefit from any more sensitivity than this rod will transmit, and it is a more forgiving action than the SCV or other custom blanks in fast action without going to a slower moderate action. Many times people look for sensitivity and choose to fast a tip to get it, when their are better blanks available for the type of fishing they are wanting it for and end up with an over sensitive rod that doesn't serve it's pupose as well as a rod with plenty of sensitivity and more rounded to the purpose they are using it for.
  6. This is the time to take care of it, hopefully youl be to bussy dress'n deer in a few weeks!! Good Luck!
  7. Get that Stradic FJ, and if n you got the money step it up to the Ci4+ worth the extra cash!!
  8. Well I added a new bow this year, dialed in with a 466 grn BEE w/ VPA 3 blade. This new Venom is so narrow, it makes the 20 1/2" Gale Force look wide. Both are tack drivers!
  9. Avid 7' MHF is what I use.
  10. St Croix Extreme 7'2" MHM Carolina rigs, St Croix Avid 7' MHF for texas rig's and heavy weeds.
  11. of what you mentioned,,,Slick Tricks, but I use only VPA three blade, mechanicals and heads you can remove blades I have little use for, the kill arrow I have now has killed 6 deer last year same head just a few swipes across a diamond hone after each kill, and ready for anther, watch em drop, I will be starting the season with the same arrow and head going after #7, with a new this year TP Venom,,,can't wait, feel like I'm 50 again with a new toy,,,,
  12. I agree with Dwight, the 7'2"MHM Extreme I own will work with treble hooks and single point hooks as well as lighter baits, not ideal with weights under 5/16 but if we are only allowed 2 rods here I'll take it and I think it is as good as a MF for those applications. The 7'MH will do most work in heavy cover, and both work with single point hooks. I love the MM but too much it wont do with deeper and larger crankbaits and single point hooks that the MHM will.
  13. Avid MHM, the only one I found I like better,,,,,the older Extreme with cork handles, in MHM, but its 4 bill's. If I had to choose one of the new models, the Avid would be my pick and under 200 buck's the only one I would look at.
  14. For me this is a custom built Legend Elite 6'6" MLF 1000FG size Sustain reel and it would be hard to beat!! It is unbelievable,,,,,but how much do you want to spend, I went with the 6'6" length for it's better accuracy for other tactics. The 7 MLF for dedicated D.S. If you want cheaper, St. Croix Avid 6'6" MLF for all round finesse work, or 6'9" MLXF for dedicated D.S. only, along with a 1000 Symetry would be outstanding, or for a bottom dollar rig without wasting money on a heavy dead outfit you want to upgrade instantly,,, St Croix Premier again 6'6" for everything or 7' either in MLF with a 1000 size Sahara any one of these outfits would be light, fast, sensitive, and remain a great outfit in your arsenal for years to come before needing upgraded.
  15. The Avid MM would be a very hard rod to beat for your purpose, it's fabulous, and in my opinion, the best rod their is for that purpose!!
  16. Yes call Lew's, any spool will work from the small frame reels, just not the BB's and S.D. you can have one shallow and one deep if you like, just an option so you know.
  17. Shimano Sustain spinning, and Team Lew's Gold casting, that is for bass size gear. for pike muskie salmon and trolling, Calcutta 400TE, but a little large for most Bass and Walleye fishing!!
  18. BB1 I use 2, my Team Lew's Gold's, all 5 use 1 brake in wind I dial in a little mag, There is no reason to turn on any more brakes than you need to control the spool, using more than necessary just robs free spool ability! Trust me ,,,,, everyone wouldn't lie to you
  19. I agree with most, if it works for you your in, I don't agree you can catch as many fish with a cane pole or a 50 dollar rod and reel kit,,,,,,unless your using a bobber, you ain't going to drop shot, or use weightless plastics and a few other applications where you probably wouldn't even notice you had a bite, or burn a buzz bait or a trap with a 202 zebco,,,,, But if that's, ok with you and your happy with those things, go for it, if you want to detect the slightest bites,,,or use the lightest line possible to tackle large fish, or any other advanced reason we get to do these things so well these day's,,,,,,you ain't going to be very productive with mediocre drags, and excessively slow speeds, heavy rods with little or no sensitivity and tapers that are so restrictive to many applications, and casting range or accuracy that is technique robbing, but can be lucky once in a while, whether you realize whats happening or not, that may work for you. This is why we have the wide diversity in tackle today, there is something out there regardless how basic,,,or how advanced you want to be, if you decide you want to tame that 17" or even 24" bass on 4 pound test,,,you may have a little better chance with a little more expensive tackle, but only you know what your satisfied with. Like Avery2 said, many level's,,,,,,,fall in where you like!!
  20. Excellent job mike! you did that well,,,,,,,
  21. Go to your local bait shop, most know builders in the area, if you don't have any good shops close to you, check with BPS, Gander Mnt., Cabelas, or if you have to ship it, DVT can fix you up, the bad thing about shipping it is it's less than $8.00 to replace it from most builders, specially since you have the new guide.
  22. LES66MF here, but very sweet as is the 7' and yes they are Forrest Green, and no they do not use micro guides. The Legend Elites are by far the most impressive rods I have found in my 60 years, I like them all, the 7' MF is an excellent rod and better in deep water or when fishing with a lot of line out than my 6'6", another great option and the 6'6" has a little faster tip. Either one is GREAT!!
  23. X2,,,,,, I've argued this with others before, but maybe they never had a quality custom rod to test it on!!!! sound's ridiculous, but feeling is believing!
  24. Team Lew's Gold, save a 100 bucks, what I did, the Core is gone and the Team Gold with 3 more took it's place, I aint look'n back, Super Smooth, cast great, and with the stronger drag, and multiple brake systems extremely versatile! But hard to go wrong if you want to spend the whole 300 there are plenty at the price just as good!
