  5. this will be my first trip to the boundary waters above MN. what is a must for me to bring as far as tackle. i am planning on bringing one spinning reel and one baitcaster. we will have to carry all we bring for a mile so we are limiting ourselves on what to bring. i have largemouth bass fished for about 5 yrs but live in MO. and have never went smallmouth fishing and am gettin real excited. any help? thanx darren....oh yeah, the trip is in june if that helps...
  6. its my fault, everytime me, my brother and uncle try to get together this happens..goin this weekend and high in mid 50's and lows in mid 30's.. next week when im at work the high's will be in the mid to upper 60's, imagine that.. last year when we planned a trip in april, the week before we left the temps were in the mid 60's. the night before we fished there was a 25 degree temp drop with 15-20 mph windgusts and we were fishing out of a small jon boat, now thats fun? so next time you guys are planning a trip, call me and make sure i am at work, and the weather should be great........
  7. thanks guys we are goin to give it a whirl.. i am just goin to make sure we got plently of whisky when we are done and are sittin by the warm fire
  8. how in the world d i catch fish after a cold rain and the water is real muddy. water temp has dropped to 56 degrees. just a week or so ago there were baitfish everywhere in the coves and were lovin the spinnerbait and crankbait, how do i adjust in these conditions?
  9. love fishing but with 2 kids dont get out as much as i would like.. got a trip planned on Oct 15 to a strip pit in southern il... my question is at what water temp do you guys generally believe the bass will not be as active like they are in the fall.. the weeklong temps here will be in the mid 60's but mid to upper 40's at night... should l think fall still or slown down and go deep? thaks...darren
  10. headed to the big strip pit in so.Il. this weekend.. supposed to rain all week with highs in the mid to low 80's and lows at night in the mid 60's. with all the rain the water will most likely be a little on the muddy side knowing that the banks are real steep .. very little structure, a few points and coves and the dam area... how would you approach this knowing we are approaching fall as the nights are getting cooler, but with all the rain? thanks darren
  11. got my reels back from the guy who cleans them and there is a problem with the screw he needs to remove to properly go through it.. he said to take it back to bps and gave me his card and hey thought they would exchange it.. i paid 175 for the reel. I need advice on a good reel for about the same price, will probably stay away from the quantum.. any help or advice thanks.....darren
  12. what is the best way to help the life of your battery in the winter... i have a 3 bank on board charger. should i just leave it on float over the winter months, or charge them up disconnect and bring them inside to keep warm? thanks.......darren
  13. thanks Wayne P. and Sam. I really appreciate your time helping me out... i am relatively new at bass fishing and love discussing things like this with you guys who are obviously very knowledgable of the sport.....darren
  14. thanks wayne.p i e-mailed you for more info i am looking at the attachment and dont really understand how to rig it that way and what hook....darren
  15. I love fishing the wacky rig but have a couple problems and need advice... i currently use a small wacky/finnesse type hook that has a small light weed guard... it does keep me from getting hung up but it seems i miss too many fish.. if i try a regular 2 or 3/0 gammy i dont miss as many but am hung up way too much due to the exposed hook...any help would be great......darren
  16. I will be fishing Truman Lake in MO this weekend...anyone have any pointers to help me out would be appreciated.. we are launching from Sterrett Creek... water temp currently 70 and high temp 70 for the weekend. last weekend it was mid 80's....thanks darren
  17. I have a 3 bank on board charger from BPS and now when I plug it in to charge the light does not come on so I cant tell if it is working correctly... when i took the boat out and run the trolling motor at 12 V it is usually peppier than this because the trolling batteries are brand new...How can i verify that all my batteries are getting juice. do you think bps will take it back, it is 2 yrs old...
  18. I sure enjoy reading your threads fourbizz. I know they will have lots of pictures of beautiful scenery with a great story behind it...you guys are so lucky to have that country as your backdrop...keep um comin.....
  19. My brother and I fished a pit in So.IL a couple of weekends ago with good success. It was overcast all day so that helped... the owners brother fished the same pit the following weekend with bright clear blue skies and didnt catch anything... I think with the clear water, u have to 1. find some structure or 2. fish on a cloudy day...We had good luck with a tandem willow leaf spinnerbait parallel to the shore just so you are ticking the reeds and they absolutely hammered it...the biggest fish which my brother caught was 6lb3oz in 3 feet of water, believe it or not....darren
  20. I posted the question the other day about a strip pit overpopulation problem, with a few large bass but a bunch of small ones...You could catch bass under a lb all day long...We were going to speak to the owner about catching a bunch of the small ones and having a fish fry right there... are the small ones good to eat... anyone have a special recipe for fried fish?
  21. went to a strip pit to fish this weekend and had a question about the size of the fish....My brother and I probably caught 100 bass but they were all really small, under a pound.. We managed to catch 4 larger bass , 6-3, 5-13, 4-11, and 3-11. I just thought this lake would be loaded with 2 lbers, but there were none to be found... they were either really small, or really big. Could anyone give me some reasons why it would be this way? darren
  22. they are in the marion crap orchard area.. my buddies father owns a bunch of ground down there.....
  23. We are getting the chance to fish a big stip pit in Southern IL this weekend...the last time I posted about this was in the spring the we had a terrible cold front with chance of flurries...The weather looks much better this weekend with cloudcover and only a small chance of rain.... anyone been fishing strip pits lately? any advice as always would be much appreciated.....darren
  24. caught a nice bass this weekend and in the process of getting a photo and weighing him he shook so darn hard i dropped him on the ground...I am 6'1 so he fell pretty hard....when I released him, the algae was so thick he disappeared under it, so I didnt get the chance to see him swim away...do you think he will be ok...
  25. thanks for all the tips... great weekend...special thanks to fishizzle, I tried your tip of a spinnerbait parallel to the grassline, and it landed my personal best 5lb 5oz on the digital scale...I am new to bass fishing so when I ask a question, i have a small journal that I write all your tips in so that when I get on the water I can try them all. thank you all so much...darren
