  1. Are you in the market for a setup? You are going to get bombarded with suggestions. A little bit more info on your part will be helpful. Most importantly your budget? That will either increase or decrease your options... And... to answer your question... my main frogging outfit is a Champion 736 on a Curado I with 50lb PP
  2. If you are talking both rod and reel for $200. I would look into the the Lews speed spool and a MH 7ft Carbonlite rod. Nice entry level outfit.
  3. Rick!! What's up bud, I thought we lost you... welcome back!!
  4. I miss and match all the time til I narrow down what works for me. I am pretty sure I have settled with outfits I have for the time being. It has taken me a long time $$ wise to get the gear I have so I am going to hold on to it for a while. Some like to mismatch, some don't... that's the beauty of our sport. there really are no rules....
  5. You need a little bit of slack. They are not sweeps, they are very light taps and twitches. If the frog just bobbed, power it down to 50% with some slack and you will start to see the frog sway to the side. Continue that cadence and you will begin a walking pattern. Keep at it, it takes time, and persistency.
  6. Here..... I found this in the BR archives compliments of our very own Capt Shane who provided the link. Interesting read.... http://www.quickoneplus.com/fish/articles/page.asp?page=barometric
  7. ^^^^ Exactly what he said ^^^^
  8. Go to TW and look up Lews reels. They have a write up on each of the Lews reels. I can understand your confusion, but once you start understanding them, they are each unique. Goodluck!!
  9. A frog can walk as similar to a spook, it's going to take some practice but it can be done. You have to twitch the frog half, to three quarters, the twitch of that of a spook. Its very short twitch. Once you get the hang of it, you can walk it just like a spook without trimming one leg. Practice, and patience.
  10. I might be able to shed a little light on the subject, although there are others on here that REALLY know their LEWS reels. The lazer line is the entry level reel. Then comes the speed spool. This reel I consider to be a better entry level reel for around $99. Then comes the Lews Tournament MG. This reel is a great magnetic brake reel. Next comes the Tournament Pro. For many their search for a great reel ends here. (I agree... LOL..) This reel utilizes both centri and mag breaks. Then you have what I consider specialty types of reels in the BB1 and BB1 pro series. These reels introduce bigger spools and some pretty impressive casting abilities from what I hear. Others can be more helpful, since i do not own either reel. Next come the super duty. This reel has nice winching power for specific applications and then comes the " rare air" series which is the team pro series. Capt Bob is very well versed with these reels. I can't touch these reels... LOL... Hopefully this helps a little.
  11. Good question. I was thinking the same question earlier today. Summer fishing definitely has its challenges. Especially living down here in S.Fl. Our summer heat and humidity is brutal. Surprisingly though, I don't catch many fish during this time but when I do, they are nice.
  12. Mike from Hawgtech is an active member here on BR. His screen name is Piscicidal. Send him a PM or he might actually see this thread and answer you directly on here. Good luck!!
  13. A scale is very useful tool to have. Not only to record the weights of your PB, but also to help you realize the discrepancy between what you see and how heavy the fish actually is. For example when someone catches a nice fish and they swear it's a 6 lbr when it's actually just a healthy 4lbr. LOL....
  14. Yep.. It happens to me from time to time. I also forget there is a delete feature.... duh???
  15. Probably, if the drought lasts long enough. The stress of depleted oxygen and the loss of cover, and overfishing can overwhelm the bass and possibly kill them off. Fish like bowfin and gar, will endure the harsh conditions.
  16. Another vote for frogg toggs. Lightweight and they get the job done.
  17. Those are the frames I have. Great glasses. I like that the side glare clips can be removed when you don't need them.
  18. I can't help you with sizing info, but I can recommend that Costa's are great sunglasses.
  19. Dang!!!! Cutler Jay... WTG buddy!!! Remember what I told you about.... you would have scored real big with that bag.
  20. Nice Big O!! .... its been awhile.. thought you retired from fishing or something.....
  21. Nice fish!! Enjoy the memory..
  22. Yeah it hurts when the big one's get away... learn from the experience and try again, that's all we can do.
  23. For Flukes I use 3/0 EWG Gami's. For other soft plastic applications I will use 2/0-3/0 EWG's depending on the size of the bait. Gami's have been the most reliable hook i have used over the years. There are plenty of good hooks out there. Over time you will find a hook a brand that you will gravitate to.
  24. That's a nice fish, congrats.
  25. Cool... I agree 2.5lb.
