  1. Thanks Rick. The weather was challenging, but we made the best of it and had a good time. I guess it beats dodging thunderstorms. Lol
  2. I agree with this. On top of that, they don't announce it. Yes, sometimes they have the red clearance stickers, and other times if you buy x amount of one bait they have a discount on other bags of the same bait you purchase. If I knew the sale was going on in the 1st place I would have gotten more stuff...lol
  3. Headed out yesterday with my BIL to both MM35 and US 27. First half of the day was at MM35 attempted to go MM41 but very dense hyacinths mats made my passage futile. Passing cold front with high winds also made the fishing very challenging. We caught 5 bass 1 being 3.5lbs. After the cold front blew over, we made our way to US 27. The water conditions better. No hyacinth's lol. Winds were still high, but we were able to land 19 more bass for total of 24 for the day. Soft plastics and frogs produced the catches.
  4. I use only frogs with skirts. They endure abuse and work well in any situation. Although, the frogs with legs look ideal and realistic and marketed very creatively, ultimately they don't last. Yes, they will catch you fish, but will not stand up to the abuse. One particular brand, that retails for about $7-$8 quickly comes to mind and in one outing with me, in the glades was destroyed. I quickly went back to my skirted frog of preference and kept catching fish all day with same frog.
  5. Great story. I know people got to eat. I also understand homeowners trying to protect the jewel of a lake they live on. With today's fishing regulations for bass. He could have only kept one of those big ones. The rest of the stringer, based on the sizes you described are past the legal limit. You are fortunate to have accessibility to fish that lake. I know I would love to fish there.
  6. Welcome aboard. You live in a very productive part of the state. You will definitely learn a lot more being involved in the forums. Good luck.
  7. Nice fish Roger. Lake K, is such a beautiful lake. I really enjoyed my time there when I fished that lake for the first time last year.
  8. The question by the OP was concern of mine until last year. I never liked weighing a fish by putting a hook around the gil area. More often than not the fish never cooperated and wiggled loose and the chance of injury was high. I also hooked through the lip. That fixed the problem however, again, I am making an additional hole in the lip. Last year a member from another forum turned me on to the fish grip. It has a special knotch for scales. Its a win win. The fish and scale are secured and injury to fish if weighed correctly drops to 0 imho. Here is a pic of what I am describing. Hope this helps someone.
  9. Not to hijack the thread, I was gifted a Disney Charter last year. It was a unique experience for sure. Talking with my Disney guide, he told me fishing on the park property was prohibited unless on a charter or in a designated fishing area on some of the park resorts.
  10. I.rar, that's a unique hump indeed. I have never seen one like that before. I wonder if they become more pronounced during the spawn?
  11. Like some have mentioned already, stock bearings flushed and lightly oiled. The only upgrade I did on my 50E was a HawgTech handle and cabontex washers. Nice difference.
  12. Yep, the bass in my Avatar pic. Less than 3 min after that pic was taken. FHP, ask me to leave the retention pond i was fishing. Don't know why til this day, no signs or fence. I remember someone from BR said that it was the troopers honey hole and he was making sure no one fished it... LOL!!
  13. If you look closely on top of its head there is a notch. Sometimes they are more defined than others. Males have the notch. Females are smaller.
  14. This one was little challenging. However, once I changed baits it was game over.
  15. From West Palm Beach, South. The farther South you go increases your possibility of running into one.
  16. Well, I at least you didn't get skunked. But I understand you wanted to catch your share especially with the long drive and all. The fish will be coming around soon.
  17. Bummer, I have been waiting to see how your report was going to be. Where did you end up fishing at the Holey Lands?
  18. Thanks guys.
  19. Our very own BR member, Captain Shane. Is another option as well.
  20. I understand what your saying Rick. However the area I am talking about is not deep in the Holey lands. Its directly across the ramp on the SW side of the big lake. From what I can remember its a long stretch of accessible bank. You just may have to maneuver through a short trail to access the area I am describing.
  21. Caught this beauty this afternoon. She went 4lbs and 18". Only fish caught and seen during my outing. LOL!! Enjoy!!
  22. If I had to bank fish in the glades, I would choose holey lands. More bank accessibility than the alley and Holiday. On the West side of the ramps, and West side of the big lake there is alot of bank access. Now I have not personally fished it, but from what I seen there is trail back there that leads to the area I am referencing. As far as gators go, keep an eye out. My concern would be the slithering kind. So wear boots. I wouldn't fish the other locations because from what I have seen and experienced in my younger days when i didnt have a boat, is bank access. Throw in a few people because of the holiday and bank access becomes even less. Good luck out there Rick.
  23. I did once while fishing. A few years back I was using a Carbonlite I believe. Fishing in the pads at the glades, a very nice bass slammed my bait, I reared back and set the hook. However something changed when I was wrestling the fish out of the pads and my rod snapped. Lost a great fish and rod in the same situation. lol.. Fortunately, the CL was still under warranty, and I picked myself up a new one, no questions asked. I learned my lesson since then and no more rods have been broken. LOL...
  24. Nice report Jose way to go!!
  25. Nice fish Snook. The fishing has been slow. But occasionally you'll come across a nice fish if you cover alot of water and keep your eyes open.
