LT frogs are my bread and butter for frogging. They can be worked in various ways. I will say that learning to walk a LT frog is a little bit more challenging than other frogs in the market today, but it can be done with lots of practice. I would not be too overly concerned if you can't walk it however. Popping them in thick to sparse cover is very effective and easier to do. Here are some tips i give to rookie froggers: 1. Don't be afraid to throw the frog into nasty cover. The frog can handle it. When a bass takes a frog, be sure the bass has the frog and set the hook hard. Let your rod work with you. I cannot emphasize this enough. 2. Be patient and methodical on your approach. Look for cover that has the highest probability of holding fish. 3. Take quick mental notes of what approach is illiciting strikes and stick to that game plan. 4. Lastly,make sure you are properly equipped. Make sure your rod and reel are up to the task. Frogging is a rough and tough technique. 5. Enjoy the experience. Once you get your first explosion you will be hooked forever. Good luck.

I have almost fallen out a couple of times from my boat. My BIL fell out a couple of yrs ago. We laugh about it now, but it was pretty scary when you fall out of boat that is surrounded by curious gators. Fortunately, nothing happened.

For the last 10-12 yrs I have always fished with someone. There are several benefits to this: 1. Safety. You never know when an emergency will occur and another person can/will be a life saver. 2. Another person will help dial in fish better. When you have two anglers fishing for fun, they can join forces and find what technique(s) are producing fish quicker. 3. Its fun. Spending time on the water with a friend or fishing partner makes the experience memorable. Something always happens during trips that you can talk or laugh about down the road. For ex: The day my BIL fell out of the boat when we had 6 gators close to us. (He is ok, and nothing happened. But we sure get laughs out of the story til this day). 4. Solidifies bonds. Due to forums such as this one. I can pick up the phone and invite or be the guest on several people's boat's on any given weekend. To share the water with people who love bass fishing as much you do is a great feeling. Forming friendships with individuals that you would normally never come across during your day to day life is pretty cool. If it wasn't for the love bass fishing these individuals would have never crossed your radar.

Headed out to MM35 with my BIL yesterday. We fished Miami Canal North from 9am-4pm. Wind was from the NNW at a constant 15-18mph. Water temps was 61.5 degrees. The day started slow, but we managed a few fish on stickworms. The frog bite was really slow. I did manage some blow ups but no connections. As the day lingered on and the bite had no real excitement, I switched over to a jig. Jig fishing has never been my strong suit, however if the day ever came I would know what to do with them. Well... the day came. Shortly after i started throwing the jig I landed a beautiful 5.5lb bass. The bite was not constant but I was catching. Shortly before we left I landed another 5lbr. Due to Valentines Day I had to leave the water earlier than I normally would, and I left nice fish to be found. Doesn't matter though. The fishing is only going to get better out there anyways in the next few months, and I will pick up where I left off. Overall we landed 22 bass. Biggest were the 5.5 and 5lbs. Measuring 20.75" and 20" respectively.

Quick answer. Very carefully. I have had my share of mishaps with treble hooks. One ER visit quickly comes to mind. DVT also brought up a great point. Boga grips or The Fish Grip are great tools to have handy to handle treble fish.

Nice fish sqhertz.... sorry I can't get used to the new screen name. Lol!! With that set up your hands were full. Great job landing her especially in a canal with tough banks. Yeah pea's are hunkering down with this cold weather.

Mainebass for what application are you looking at?

The outfit will work just fine. As far as line goes, suffix 12lb mono imho will serve you better than a copoly line. Copoly line will get the job done, don't get me wrong, but mono will give the lure more fluidity, where copoly is a little bit more stiffer.

Live target has a 1/4 oz hollow body frog that will serve you well in the situation you are describing. I will personally throw the 5/8 oz.

Yeah.. sporadic feeding can leave you scratching your head. Fortunately you stayed a little while longer to catch the next feeding flurry.

Holy smokes!! That was crazy. Dolphins and Orca's have unbelievable hunting strategies when they zero in on their prey. Cool video.

Every once in a while there are gators out there that act out of character. I just pick up and move. They are so stealthy, they sneak up on you if your not paying attention, and that really makes me uneasy.

I have seen bass go after low flying dragon flies.

This is the normal cycle of the glades. As far as I can remember this always occurs. In the Winter the fishing slows down. Fronts, water levels, etc effect the fishing. The fish normally run small this time of year. Spring, the water levels recede and it becomes a fishing bonanza for several months. In the Summer, fishing can be pretty good until the rains begin and the water rises filling the marshes once again. The big fish return into the glades. In the fall, fishing can be ok, water can still be high and the fish quality is similar to the winter. The curve ball during the summer/fall is if we get hurricane or tropical storm. If its a storm that dumps a ridiculous amount of water, fishing can be ruined for months due to the high water. Marsh fisherman who know what they are doing do well because the water is so high that make the marshes easily accessible. We are now in the Winter cycle with Spring around the corner, so the beginning of the bonanza should happening by early March.

I agree the nature of the OP's post left many of us scratching our heads. Yes, his list of frogging equipment is rather extensive. But many of you do understand you are poking fun at a 14 yr old kid right? What ever happen to giving sound advice? He hasn't been disrespectful as far as I can see to anyone. I just see an enthusiastic kid who really loves to frog fish that has a lot of gear. Who are we to question how and where he got all that equipment? If we can't be constructive to a young adult then this is perfect example of closing a thread.
