Welcome back to bass fishing!! The best advice I can give you it to utilize this website for the articles and videos. I have been bass fishing for a while and I am still learning and getting ideas from the videos and articles. Not to mention from fellow anglers on this website. Sorry, i could not be more specific, but you will see once you see what I am talking about.
I hate it when that happens. It always happens to me (not often) when I feel it in my gut that the knot just doesn't look or feel right and I cast it anyway. The knot slips with a fish 100% of the time.
I was thinking you were starting to lose your touch "Big O" I have not seen pics of your catches in a while. Gorgeous fish has always. You will be pleased to know my order of shellcrackers and twin menace's came in. Can't wait to try them out.
x2 on the rapala scales. the only difference I did on mine was file the hook a little sharper so I can hook bass on the bottom lip. Otherwise with the regular hook if you put behind the gill plate the wiggle loose alot of the times.
Save up for the avid. You will not be dissappointed. Don't get me wrong i like the rage however when you lose confidence on your hardware its time to change. I am still a St. Croix fan but from this point forward although the premiers are great my minimum level will be an avid.
I have a rage rod. I've had 3 actually. 1, broke at the tip while casting on the third cast the first time out. Had to return it to St. Croix. #2 broke in half on a hook set on a sweet bass. I lost the bass. Had to that back also. #3 is holding up til when... i don't know. I like the rod however every time I use it, its in the back of my mind if the next hookset is its last. I would say spend a tad more and get an Avid which I also have, or go to the bargain room see if they still have last years legend tournaments. I picked one up a few months ago and I love it.
I just ordered shellcrackers and the new twin tail grub also. My BPS has not started selling at the store however they are available on-line, so I went with the ship to store option.
Good post Skeletor6. All valid points. The way I see it is, there is a time and place for the use of the 3 types of lines (braid, mono, fluro). However, the beauty of fishing is we all have the choice to use what works for us.
