  1. January can be touch and go with cold fronts. Fronts will shut our fish down for a few days. If its multiple fronts its going to be a loooong week. As far as spawning goes, I could be mistaken, but I haven't heard of Central FL bass spawning in January.
  2. Welcome to BR, you will be better served asking this question in the Other Species forum.
  3. When I throw the fluke, I throw Zoom's: WM seed WM red, Albino, Arkansas shiner, and an Albino color with a light green tint. 3/0 EWG Gami on 12lb Yozuri Hybrid.
  4. That sure is a tiny fish, but its not a bass.
  5. For my dense cover punching, flipping, and pitching line, I use 65lb PP braid. Depending on the density of the cover I will use 1/2oz up 1.5oz Tungsten weight. As far as mono working? I am sure it will, it was the line of choice back in the day. Presently, there are several line choices that will get the job done a little better imho. I choose braid, because this type of fishing is so up close and personal, I prefer a line that has 0 shock absorption and allows me to remove fish out of cover quickly. Of course the type of rod and reel you are using play an important role in this as well.
  6. Yes, I have recently been using these hooks for my flipping and punching applications. This hook means serious business. I have found that the sharpness of this hook is a double edged sort of speak. It sticks fish extremely well, but it cuts up your bait pretty good too.
  7. This is a great point. I do a lot of my fishing in the Glades, and I don't start fishing my spots some times til late morning or early afternoon. The bass are slamming my frog offering from high noon til I wrap up in the evening.
  8. If frog is on the menu it doesn't matter what time of day you throw them. Some throw in the morning others throw in the evening and at night. Me... if the fish are active I will throw the frog all day long.
  9. To answer your question, no. I am actually surprised more right handed don't use left handed reels. For me, a right hand reel is natural because I am a natural lefty. But for a natural righty I would assume its natural to use a left reel. At least for me it is.
  10. Welcome to BR Javi. From what I have seen, Sunrise has canals, and ponds in the industrial parks. Google earth can also be a big help for you in this situation. One of my techniques is to throw a frog into nice green vegetation. If there is nice bass in that area, a frog is pretty tough to pass up. Also try speed worms burned on top, and flukes. If the fish are somewhat active they will look at these baits. Good luck
  11. Congrats on both your house and upcoming baby. Fish as much as you can this month, because you will be taking a little break from fishing soon enough.
  12. Hi Joe, its been a while. Summer fishing here in Fl can be frustrating and rewarding. With summer, comes rain, which causes water to move. Finding moving water can help you in finding fish. Fishing in thick cover can also be very productive. Punching the vegetation quickly comes to mind. Lastly, fishing during the cooler part of the day helps sometimes as well. Early morning, early evening, lastly night fishing. Don't worry though, in your part of the woods the cool down will be happening soon enough. Good luck
  13. Huge difference..... when you get more time under your belt catching bass on both types of baits you will discover the differences. Trust me...
  14. I have heard a couple of times of Big bass eating snakes, and an angler upon catching the bass is surprised to find a baby snake. Down here the story I heard was of a baby water moccasin.
  15. Yes, they do. A Nat Geo, or Discovery channel program showed a huge bass inhaling a baby gator.
  16. Yeah, I love the Glades, its been my main fishing area for many years. Looking forward to your reports. Cheers..
  17. Welcome to BR. Where abouts in South Fl are you from? What part of town do you mostly fish? Your profile is pretty vague, filling it in a bit will be helpful to you.
  18. To the OP what line were you using? The reason I ask this is because I primarily use Booyah spinnerbaits, and I had a season in where I lost several booyah SB. Around the same time I switched to braid as my main line for all my outfits. As an experiment I switched back to copoly for my SB applications and the problem went away.
  19. My pitching and flipping set up is a Champion 734 with a Curado I HG, with a 102 mm HawgTech handle and 40lb PP braid. This setup is bada$$ for this application.
  20. Like several have mentioned already, 6 ratio on up will get the job done just fine.
  21. Unless the weather is obviously bad, for example heavy rain, with thunder lightening. Would I decide not to go fishing. I am not going allow a fishing reminder govern when I go fishing. I have been skunked when that thing says its excellent fishing, and flat out killed them when it says the fishing is going to be poor. You decide.
  22. To the OP, I never asked you what rod you were referring to? Spinning rod, or a baitcasting rod?
  23. This is very true. When the almighty bucketmouth decides to hit, its better to be ready than un-prepared. Or you will be creating another thread of the one that got away.... and what did I do wrong.
  24. Hollow body frog? Can you get away with it? Depends on your experience with a frog. An experienced frog fisherman may be able to pull it off, but honestly you will be better served with a 7ft MH rod, and utilizing braid for a better, secure hookset. That's just my .02 .
