  1. The main pond i fish has rocks all the way around it and they go out about 10 feet from shore and 5-6 feet deep. They are smaller rocks maybe a little bit bigger than your hand and i was wondering if there is a certain head type of a jig that would slip over the rocks better than others? Im using watermelon rage craws for trailers. Thanks
  2. Are they very good for catfish bait? How do u rig them up?
  3. I did some more searching and found out they hybridize with other panfish. Some of the others are lighter so that explains it. Green sunfish it is. Thanks
  4. These are all over the pond I fish and I'm curious what to call them. I've googled green sunfish and they look similar but these are yellow instead of green. The yellow sunfish pics I saw looked different. Thanks http://s1132.photobucket.com/albums/m576/red08yaris/Snapbucket/?action=view&current=2012-05-16_18-23-27_315.jpg
  5. I went by my local BPS today and picked up a St. Croix Mojo 7'9" heavy fast swimbait rod, a Cardiff 200 reel, some 20# P-Line CXX, and a few BPS swimbaits. The guy said last night they had Spro swimbaits but they only carry the cranks from Spro. What type of knot do you use for the swimbaits since they are heavier?
  6. Would an Abu Ambassaduer C4 be a better choice over the 200 series Cardiff? I noticed it could hold a little more line for around the same price.
  7. So would mono work for now and then upgrade to braid when I get a 400? If so then what # would be good to start with?
  8. I've never used braid before. What # and brand would work?
  9. Will this reel be enough for a swimbait setup? This is the only model Cardiff that my local BPS has in stock. I will be getting a 400 when I find one. Is there another reel that is better for the money? I will be throwing Spro 6" baits and some BPS swimbaits until I upgrade my reel. I will have it on a St. Croix Mojo 7'9" H F rod. What line should I use? Thanks
  10. Could I use the same line for both swimbaits and a-rig? I know the a-rig calls for big braid but are swimbaits the same?
  11. Wondering what reels could handle 60-85 lb braid with ease. This will be my first heavy reel. Im going to get the St. Croix mojo rod 7' 9" heavy fast. Will be throwing 6-8" swimbaits and some a-rigs. Thanks
  12. I'm was looking to try out swimbaits but I'm trying to decide between swimbaits or flipping jigs. Either one I choose I will have to get a new rod and reseller. The lakes I fish have no weeds in them. One has rocks around the edge and the other has stumps in it. My question is which setup should I go for? I've never flipped with anything except a spinning rod. Any advice will help. Thanks. Which setup produces more? I'm wanting to start out with the 4" floating bbz1 shad ifalso i choose swimbaits.
  13. Gonna try throwing swimbaits so I can hopefully start catching bigger bass. What would be a good cheap way to start that I could buy at Bass Pro? Any advice helps. Thanks
  14. What kind of setup do you guys use and what # line for the swimbaits? I found a couple of shimano Triton plus 4500 spinning rods and reels for cheap used. Are these workable for swimbaits? The guy also has a Abu Garcia baitcasting reel also. Thinking real hard about it if it will work just to start out with.
  15. I'm going to get into swimbaits and looking towards the BPS Z9R series. Has anyone had any luck with these and what size bass have you caught off them? I will need to get a bigger rod and reel so I need so suggestions on that also. Not trying to break the bank. Thanks
  16. One word.....SWEET!!!
  17. I see small bream and bluegill around the edges. Most 3-4 inches. I've seen a couple schools of shad also. The bass I've caught have had a red upper lip? I read that they might be feeding on crayfish or its colder water. The temp here is in the low 80s during the day and around 60 at night. I'm thinking about taking a day and go around the pond with a heavy weight and stick floats spaced out every foot. Then casting and depending on how many floats are underwater then that's how deep it would be then reel it in slowly and record every depth around the pond. Do u think that would work? There's not hardly any underwater structure as far as trees or grass goes. Thanks for the help guys. Gonna print out an aerial view of it with Google maps then chart everything on it.
  18. I have several rooster tails but it seems I always catch tiny bass or bluegill on them. Haven't caught a bass this year on one yet though.
  19. That's some nice weight on those fish north GA hillbilly.
  20. Ok guys lets see just how many bass you've caught far this if you're keeping track. I have no boat and just got back into it last week. I've only caught 9 so far because I don't have much time after work to fish. Plus only a couple of small ponds to choose from for now till I get a boat.
  21. The pond is at Tilden Rogers park in West Memphis, AR. Its close to my house so its the easiest for me to get to that have decent bass in it. It has small rocks all the way around it. I think its 2 acres but it twists and winds around and has a concrete path for people to walk on. It has about a foot of clarity on a cloudy day. It drops off to around 3 feet about 5 feet off the shore. Not sure how deep it actually is. It does have any major trees in the pond but it does have a pier on the backside of it. It has a lot of fishing pressure for catfish. Not to many bass anglers try it out from what I've seen. My question is that with the information I gave you what would be the best lure choice? I use chatterbaits mainly but I've caught a couple off a rage tail also. I caught one bass that was guarding her babies so I guess the spawn is over. I might have left some things off but I'm just trying to get an idea of the ideal lure. I also use 5 inch senkos sometimes. Here is a link to some fish I caught from there and you can see the water and rocks in the background. You could do Google maps to see it from above. Tilden Rogers park. Thanks http://m1132.photobucket.com/albums/red08yaris/Snapbucket/?src=www?pbauth=1_uLEBonVPfaLdh1h3YMYz2cxl6%2F%2BQ1m2p9kQetd7C995OBYFDlNs1mRtF19XDb%2FYPSqTT35Of%2B5SWImVp5y%2FcWhGbnwwaSpBIxQB%2B1hpt0bS5%2FLq5ZBXA06%2FJQVFl8JNVNb6G05t%2F9Uc2bXPFl%2F8e6QxpfSiEYIZHJ1yPMMuO7U4%3D
  22. I love it when they bite like that. Nice fish. Fixing to head out myself. Hopefully I can catch a few also.
  23. Yeah I went today but they weren't pulling as many out today. The wind was around 15 MPH but I did manage to catch as couple of bass this morning one was nice. Caught one on a chatterbait and the bigger one on a watermelon rage tail on a black/brown jig. She was guarding her babies as they were swimming on the top. I put the rage tail right in front of her and she couldn't resist it. I was 2 feet from her. Released her so she could be a good mom. She wasn't huge but decent for the pond I think. My scale said 1 lb 2 oz but she felt heavier. There are bigger bass in there. I was trying to sight fish but the wind killed it. Here's a pic of her and u can see how the pond is setup in the background. The rocks go all the way around the pond. http://m1132.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/red08yaris/Snapbucket/013BBD1C-orig.jpg.html?o=0&newest=1
  24. That's one of those fish we all wish to catch one day. That's a huge fish. Nice job Dan!
  25. Here is the link to the cats. It says the pics are to big to upload through my phone. http://s1132.photobucket.com/albums/m576/red08yaris/Snapbucket/
