  1. I have used the grass minnows and loved them. Thinking about trying the weedless shads, but can't find any info on their length and weight. Can anyone offer some insight on this baits specs?
  2. Keep mixing it up. Last year I caught 2/3 of my fish on a lipless crank. This year that same crank has been ok, but swimbaits and soft plastics have been working well for me too. I have pulled in a few this year on my spinners. If something does not work , don't be afraid yo try something else.
  3. I would say the senko is more effective wacky rigged, IMHO. Ribbon tails are better for t- rigging. And don't reel it in fast if you get no bites immediately. Rather work it very slow with an occasional twitch of the rod. My 2 cents.
  4. Pflueger President is an excellent choice.... You might want to go to ffo.com and checkout last years model Pflueger supremes they are selling. It is a 100 dollar reel that you can pick up for 70 bucks shipped. And the only real difference between the 2011 and 2012 models are cosmetic. It is a great reel...but the Pres. is still a solid choice
  5. It was a multi species day at Aeroflex today! Caught a rainbow trout, a big perch, a 3 lb. LM, and 4 pickeral. Had a knot fail on one fish so god knows what that was...All in all a good day on a pressured lake.
  6. If I had 36 rods in the house, I would have to quit my job in fear of the wife ebaying 1/2 of them the second I pulled out of the driveway!
  7. Find a used St croix premier in 6'6"-7' MH/F power. All around good u.s.a built rod. You can get one new for 130 dollars even.
  8. ^This x10. I only care about distance when "hail mary'ing" cranks to cover water. But 9 times out of 10, accuracy trumps distance. When fishing cover, I only need 25-30 feet of distance to hit my mark. It does me little good to have a rig that casts a mile but I can' t hit that sweet hole in the pads or drop a bait perfectly between 2 stumps 3' apart where the fish are. Distance comes from every part of the gear you use. Just moving from 10 lb trilene xl to 12 lb. trilene xt can kill your casting distance if you are using a 3/8-1/2 oz bait. If your distance is terribly unbearable, try using a lighter flourocarb line or getting a longer rod for whatever you are casting. My problem is the opposite... I am a fairly strong guy at 6'3"+ and 210 lbs. My problem is overjealous power casts that sometimes land me in snag territory.
  9. It seems from my experience that xf tips will give you a little more casting distance with light lures, and definatly improve hook set power. I was originally looking to get a 6'6" M/F avid ( rated at 1/4-5/8 oz lures) but when I saw the weight rating for this rod (1/8-1/2 oz lures) it seemed it might be a better choice for my 1/4 oz inline spinner baits. I am hoping the xf tip on a 6'3" rod keeps casting distances comperable to the fast tip with 3 extra inches. Looks like I will see tomorrow morning. ;-)
  10. Supreme in size 35. If you dont mind last years model (no real difference between 2011 & 2012) they are selling for like 65 or 70 bucks at FFO.com
  11. 4-5 all depending where I am going and what species lives there.
  12. Odd... I have had about a dozen or so of them in stainless steel 1/2 oz. size for about 3 or so seasons. No rust on any of mine and the swivels work like a charm. A few have taken a pretty good beating, too.
  13. Yes.... Mike lives in my neighborhood about 5 min. away.
  14. I live in Milford as well. ( Gold key Lake). Shohola is rough shore fishing. I have 3 spots I hit religiously. The best one for me is close to the first boat ramp. The one that is closest to RT. 6. It is literally the area right between the island and the Big boulder that protrudes out of the water. It always peoduces... but you do need a boat to get there.
  15. The mossyback.... I love xf tips for weightless plastics.
  16. Although I am pretty confident in my choice, I still like to hear insight from others with experience. Today I picked up a 6'3" M/XF St. Croix Avid. I matched it up to a 30 size Pflueger Medalist reel. 80% of the time I will be using it for 3/8-1/2 oz "safety pin" spinnerbaits and weedless swimbaits. However, I also needed a rod that can accomodate 1/4 oz inline spinners like rooster tails when I am out for brown/rainbow trout as well as the occasional need for a walleye jigging rod. What do you think? Should this rod handle these tasks well?
  17. True.... and apparently no more pungee stick jokes that some might not understand.
  18. LOL.... I have actually bought a St. Croix legend tourney with a Pflueger patriarch, a Premier with a Pflueger Supreme,a St Croix triumph with a trion ( ultra light setup that only gets used a few times a year brook trout fishing), and a Pflueger medalist reel that will eventually be used on the Avid this year. I have a newborn son now , so trying to save a few bucks on gear at this point seems to be a good idea!
  19. ...... Or pungee sticks tipped with human feces!!! LOL
  20. I know the paypal protection is great.... and shipping is free. Buy i am skipping it. If they send me a knockoff or wrong rod, I have to return it to the seller to get a refund. That may end up costing me too much to be worth the refund. I hope whoever wins this auction doesn' t get screwed!
  21. So I am in the market for a 6'6" M/F St croix Avid. I notice aa guy selling one in Vietnam new and the current bid is 46 bucks. Problem is he is a new seller with 0 feedback. Part of my instinct is screaming "scam" here. Any advice you guys would like to give me or nightmare stories to share? It is awful tempting to bid on it!
  22. All depends on the reel size too. I use 10 lb. P-line cx on almost all of my 30 and 35 size Pfluegers with no problem. My crankbait rod has a 35 size Pflueger supreme with 12 lb. P-line cx, and that is pushing it. More important than the test rating is the line diameter. My supreme is rated to 10 lb. test maximum, but the 12 lb. P-line cx I use on it is still within the rated line diameter rating of the reel.
  23. I am probably one of 3 people here that use spinning gear for frogging! St croix premier 6'6" MH/F rod with a Pflueger president xt (aluminum body) reel and 30 lb. Suffix 832. So far it has worked well for me.
