  1. Pflueger president XT. It is aluminum bodied, silky smooth, and best of all the reel color is actually complimentary to the rod. That is what I used on my Mojo. You might be able to talk me into selling it to you since I no longer have the Mojo and the reel is just collecting dust ATM
  2. 6'8" St Croix Legend tournament or Avid.
  3. Yes and no. I can understand a problem happening with a component manufacturer and not being awsre of it initially and it effects the final product. I work in manufacturing and issues like this happen all the time. However I agree that the rod manufacturer should contact their component supplier after being aware of the problem to correct the issue ASAP. As of now, St Croix SHOULD be aware of loosening reel seat screws and demanding more from Fuji. Although it is a small problem, it certainly warrants attention.
  4. None of my St croixs have ever broken. I do have the reel seat screw problem on my premiers, and had it on a triumph I used to own. Just wrap the threads of the reel seat with teflon tape. This will keep the reel seat screw from coming loose. My avid and ltb do not have that problem. It isn't St. Croix's fault as the reel seats are manufactured by fuji.
  5. Try it...using braid should help overcome the soft tip it has. They are stout.
  6. ThisCabelas has them too. That is what I use. Throw the bag in the bed without the hassles of removing the reels for transport.
  7. Nice fish,tj! Going back to Aeroflex with 2 dozen herring and a 12 pack Sat. evening. Targeting mostly rainbows, browns, and salmon to smoke up for a bbq on Sun. Got a good feeling though. My confidence in that lake literally grows by the trip
  8. I will agree that LM bass aren't usually too picky..... But I don't always target bass themselves if I am in a lake with other interesting species. I have caught Bass perch, rainbow and brown trout, walleye, crappie, pickeral, and even a landlocked atlantic salmon on my lipless live targets. I use the old rat-l-traps in lakes I am unfamiliar with to avoid losing a 13 dollar crank, but I don't seem to have as high as a success ratio as I do with my live target cranks.
  9. Not always true ..my buddy has been fishing for years and never broke a rod. Then broke 2 in one week. One was a pflueger president combo rod (Cheap) and the other was an all star tournament series (A little better quality than a mojo) All star replaced the rod for free for him.... it was not even 2 months old.
  10. I have bought about 4 reels from a seller named unitedoutdoors. He sells new and you will save at least 15-20 bucks over going to the store to buy new. I also purchased both my Pflueger medalists used for a combined 66 dollars including shipping. Good deal considering they were retailing for 80-85 dollars each when new. Both were in excellent condition as I broke them both open to inspect and lube them when recieved. As others have said 97% feedback or higher with an established history is the only way I pull the trigger on a purchase.
  11. Another vote for the President here.
  12. The Patriarch is the only one of those made of Magnesium. It is light as a feather and stronger than a concrete sidewalk. I tried the Abu premier. It is a nice reel. But my Patriarch feels a bit smoother at the price point.
  13. P-line CX or yo-zuri hybrid. You don't have to break open your piggy bank to get quality line with those 2 choices available.
  14. I use all spinning gear. What do I like about Pflueger? They make reliable, smooth reels at a price point where most others make poo. Look at the Trion. Good luck finding a 40 dollar spinning reel that feels and lasts the way it does from another reel manufacturer. The president is a KILLER reel for 60 bucks. My happiness with the cheaper models made it a no brainer when choosing a reel company when I decided to go with aluminum/magnesium bodied reels. My current line up is a 35 size Patriarch, a 35 size Supreme, A 30 and 35 size Medalist, a 35 size President xt, and I still have a 25 size Trion on my UL setup for brook trout. No problems with these or any one of my prior Pfluegers. I know the Shimano guys love their reels..... Rightfully so. They are a good manufacturer. But I feel more comfortable with my Pfluegers and feel you get alot of bang for the buck.
  15. Stick with what you like and works for you. That said, you can have my Pfluegers when you pry them from my dead skeletal fingers.
  16. You are right about the weight...they aren't the lightest reels. But they are the toughest reel around and both mine ( I also have a size 30 on my swimbait/spinnerbait rod ) are smooth as butter.
  17. I am spinning only. My frog setup is a 6'6" MH/F premier with a 35 size Pflueger Medalist. To me the reel is key. I no longer use graphite bodied reels. But the first one I replaced was the reel for the frog rod. Graphite bodies seemed to flex to much for my liking when pulling in a big one covered in salad.
  18. I know dicks has berkley ripple shads. Just can't remember which size the local one carries. I ordered 4" ones from ***.
  19. d**n. TW at least didnt have the hitch pattern in either. And they were out of rainbow trout shads and blue/green back minnows. Those are the patterns that have been working the best for me. Now I am worried about the ripple shads working right. I can't friggin win! :-(
  20. Good luck getting huddleston grass minnows or weedless shads. TW and everywhere else I have checked are backordered until mid-august. I just ordered a bunch of berkley ripple shads. Hopefully they will perform well. They are inexpensive at about a dollar each, but I can' t testify to their effectiveness yet.
  21. Best cranks around. A 1/2 oz lipless golden shiner in silver with blue back will perfprm when all else fails. Almost any species in the lake will take it too! I speak from experience on these.
  22. yes.. I swear by them. I have caught Bass, large perch, walleye, pickeral, rainbow trout, brown trout, and large crappie on my 1/2 oz lipless golden shiner. The bluegill pattern has netted me a few nice bass too!
  23. Live target cranks. I like my gizzard shads and golden shiners in silver/ blue back most of the time. I also love their bluegill pattern.
  24. I have that size LTB. It is great for plastics and light jigs. I imagine it would work well for spinnerbaits, too. There are better choices for lipless cranks, though. All my rods are spinning, BTW.
  25. LOL... Thanks for the info!
