  1. Yes. The p-line cx works well for spinning reels too. All of my outfits (including my frog setup) are spinning. The p-line flouroclear and yo-zuri hybrid will both work ok with spinning set-ups too, from what I hear. The p-line cxx is a no no on spinning rigs.... It is just too stiff to seat properly on the spool most of the time.
  2. Excellent choice! The Magnesium body is awesome. Light as a feather and stronger th an stone!
  3. Pflueger Patriarch. Lightest reel of the bunch, and Pfluegers sure click bail is the best in the business. You wont be disappointed!
  4. Summed up above. 6'8" m/xf avid. Xf tip for better hooksets and increased casting distance with weightless plastics.
  5. Yes. If a company makes a good troible-free product, why stray? That said, I am all pflueger reels and st croix rods now
  6. The extra weedy waters are due to no winter freeze. The water temps were warmer than usual earlier than usual. 3/4 of the time i am throwing t-rigged plastics or weedless swimbaits.
  7. I posted to go for the president. I used a mojo bass like yours with a president xt for my plastics rod for 3 years. I used the 10 lb test myself. I upgraded to a st croix legend tournament in 6'8" medium/fast paired with a 35 size pflueger patriarch recently...still use 10 lb. test on it.
  8. Perfect size for 6'-7' medium action rods. Most of my reels are 35 size pfliegers. Jump on it.
  9. Up here by me in Pike county their are a few good spots. I am lucky enough to live about 20 min. from Lake Shohola, which is considered one of the few "lunker" LM bass lakes in the state.
  10. O yea. Both are Berkley products. 1. Berkley PB realistix kicker frog. They arent terribly cheap. Like 5 dollars for 3 of them. But they work well. How well? Let's put it this way.... I havent touched a hollow body frog like spro in over 3 years. 2. Berkley power hawg. I discovered these by accident. Ordered a Pflueger supreme from FFO.com and they sent me a pack of them for free in watermelon. Ugly looking things, But my 3rd cast yielded a 4 1/2 lb. LM. They don' t land me quantity, but the ones I catch with them are always nice in size.
  11. Might want to consider carrying an extra spool filled with flouro for your 2nd setup. Braid is good for t-rigs, but not so hot for lipless cranks due to the floating nature. Before you tell me suffix 832 sinks, it doesn't really do it well. I use it on my frog rod, it may sink a little more than other braids on the market, but it still is far from optimal for lipless crankbaits.
  12. Copolymer is kind of generic all encompassing term. Different Co- poly lines are constructed differently. Some of them are a blend of 2-3 different types of nylon. Some are a blend of nylon and flourocarbon. That being said, I am a fan of the flouro/ nylon blend. The reason being is the flourocarbon blended lines are less visible below water and tend to keep the nylon from absorbing water. Water absorbtion in nylon line greatly reduces line strength and results in line breakage. I personally use p-line cx. But p-line cxx, p-line flouroclear, and yo-zuri hybrid (mentioned by lgmouthgambler above) are all flouocarbon blend copolymer lines.
  13. I have a pair of rapala braid scissors. .. In a pinch I keep my trustee Kershaw Blackout in my pocket all of the time.
  14. They are great!! I always have a bag of 7" and 10" in my tackle bag. They produce...period.
  15. Berkley PB realistix kicker frog in tree frog color. They are not a hollow body, but a soft plastic frog that you texas rig. I have had great luck on these.
  16. 6'6"-7" MH/F St Croix Premier works well for this
  17. 4 out of my 5 regular use rods are 6'6" I have a 6'8" M/XF rod for my weightless/ light bullet plastics rod as the extra few inches combined with an extra fast tip seem to greatly improve my casting distance. But I think at minimum for LM bass fishing in any vegetation you should use a medium power rod.
  18. I agree the Rod is more important than the reel. That said, the Patriarch is about 5 ounces lighter than the President and has less flex in the stem due the fact that the Pres has a graphite body opposed to the magnesium construction of the Patriarch. I no longer have any graphite bodied reels, and the president xt I used on the mojo has an aluminum body. The heavier reels like my president xt are actually a better fit on Mojos and premiers. Those rods are generally a bit tip heavy, so the heavier reels do a better job of balancing out the combo. I would definatly upgrade my rod first if I had a President as my reel.
  19. So I have had my dream combo for about 5 weeks now which seems to be an adequate amount of time for me to post this review. The rod is the new 2011 St croix LTB 6'8" M/XF with a 35 size Pflueger Patriarch. This combo is primarily for weightless to light weighted plastics. It is equipped with 10 lb. P-line cx premium for anyone curious as to the line I am using. For the past 3 seasons my setup for my plastics has been a 6'8" M/XF Mojo Bass with a 35 size Pflueger President XT. The difference between the rods is astounding. The only thing the 2 have in common are the length and manufacturer. The first and most noticeable differences between the 2 rods is weight and balance. The LTB is certainly a featherweight and is a well balanced rod. It does not exhibit tip heaviness like the Mojo Bass has. When using the rod for the first time, the most surprising thing was how well this rod loads up and casts weightless plastics. I started out using weightless 8" zoom lizzards. The Mojo bass used to require more effort and "snap casting" to get any kind of distance out of weightless plastics. The LTB can give me the same distances without the need for violent snap casts. I don't know if it is the 10 new fuji tangle free guides with alconite inserts as oppossed to the 8 guides with aluminum oxide inserts on the Mojo, but casting has become a joy. Sensitivity is top notch. The Mojo was good, but I still found myself to be constantly watching the line in fear of missing the light bite. Those days are over. The higher modulus graphite in the LTB makes it a very sensitive rod. I actually found myself doing early overjealous hook sets the first few outings until I got used to the difference in sensitivity. The exposed reel seat on the LTB really helps in this department. You will feel everything with this rod. As for the reel, I don't think I could have found a reel that works better with this rod. Everything down to the color of the reel matching the rod. The Pflueger Patriarch is one of the lightest reels in its class. It also happens to be the smoothest reel I have ever used. The price tag might seem a bit high at 200 dollars, but believe me when I tell you it is still a great deal when you see what you get and compare it to other manufacturers high end spinning reel prices. The magnesium body alone make it worth the cost. If anyone is looking for a high end spinning reel, I would highly suggest this one. If anyone has any questions regarding this sst up, feel free to ask. But needless to say I am extremely happy with my new combo!
  20. I used a 6'8" M xf mojo bass rod with a 35 size pflueger president xt for the past 3 seasons until I upgraded. It was a great combo for the money. Good sensitivity and great backbone. The new setup is a St croix legend tournament in the same size/ action as the mojo with a 35 series Pflueger patriarch that i will be posting a review of shortly. I would say stick with the medium power rods..... The ML rod will kill you if you hook a lunker in vegetation.
  21. Ugly sticks are an absolute beast for durability. I have one for my musky rod. But anyone who says they are sensitive enough for finesse tecniques has probably never fished a quality rod.
  22. Berkley powerbait realistix kicker frogs in tree frog color.
  23. I have a gravel pad on the side of my house for my shed and in season boat parking. During winter, I have a 2nd story deck in the backyard. I just roll the boat under the deck and cover it to keep the snow out for the winter.
  24. Lunker city texposer hooks. Most of the time on 4/0 size.
  25. Yea.... the difference between 4th and 5th gear is pretty noticeable. It certainly makes it difficult to find the perfect speed to troll a crankbait behind the boat. I was wondering if anyone else had this issue with the speed controller.
