  1. jerkbaits and jigs, usually start off slow but let the fish tell you how they want it
  2. You should get your facts straight before calling out others on being stupid... This is all straight from the Bassmaster article: "called multiple times to get Arkansas Game and Fish to come to us” and "went through two counties trying to find a scale that was big enough to weigh it....” Bottom line is that the fish was weighed in front of witnesses but not the folks specified, and the marina scale – which was big enough to weigh the fish – was certified after the fact as accurate. Because of that, Arkansas would not certify the state record – even though it apparently recently certified other records under the same, similar or sketchier circumstances. Arkansas is okay with the bait but not okay with the way the fish was weighed even though it apparently has sanctioned records weighed like that in the recent past. The lure I used is nothing more than a spinnerbait using two hooks and weighing 1.4 ounces. IGFA rules state] two-hook lures are legal, and I was told [by the IGFA] my lure did not inhibit the fight of the fish or give me an unfair advantage in landing it, no more than any other lure nothing more than a spinnerbait with two hooks and five blades
  3. What meat market are you going to where they 1) are going to let you weigh a nearly 70lb (possibly alive) striper on their scale in the middle of business hours and 2) if they even will let you, have a big enough scale to weigh a nearly 70 lb striper. And as far as taking it personal you seem to be the one with an exagerated problem with it, He caught a fish on a rig that is legal in his state, and weighed it and submitted it, he didn't do anything illegal or in any form cheating. Since when is it a crime to submit something and have it turned down? He did nothing wrong, the only person he hurt was himself
  4. Anybody been on Pawtuckaway lately? I'll be out there Wednesday through Saturday, I know it very well just haven't been up there yet this year and wondering how people are doing
  5. So if your were fishing a megabass jerkbait or the larger style of lucky craft sammy's which have 3 seperate and you hooked a world record you would just toss it back in the water? And if you read just about any story on record's being broken it takes fish and game officials hours (if at all) to actually come to certify the weights
  6. Got out with my buddy last night from 8:30 to 2:00 and it was well worth the trip. I threw a spro popping frog almost the whole night while my buddy threw a bunch of different topwater stuff and a swim jig. My buddies best A bunch that I got with a HAWG to top it off
  7. Every time I see the line jump it gets me excited, but the size I get excited about is 4-5+, dpending on the day. If it's my first 4 in the last few days I get excited but usually it takes something bigger than 5 to get me pumped up, I love catching them all though
  8. I am in Mass, I have made buddies through fishing that I fish with alot but none the usual people I hang out with or used to go to school with fish, I get a couple of them to come out once in a while but none are that into it
  9. Went with a Dobyns Champion extreme 743C, I get a good deal on them brand new, so I'm only paying about 200 for it
  10. Falcon, Okeechobee, fork, toho, eerie, pickwick, clear lake. There's also some great lakes in Mexico, Mexico is personally not on my list of places I want to be heading haha but there is definitely some good spots
  11. I will mostly be fishing bigger worms like Zoom Ol' Monsters and stuff like that on it. First of all, what specs? I was thinking between 7-3 and 7-6, leaning more towards 7-6 but am really not sure what would be best. Medium heavy fast sound about right? Aside from that, what specific rod would you recomend? I really can't decide. I am by no means rolling in the cash, but I am considering going for a dobyns champion possibly, but that again I kind of just want to stick with something cheaper and get a veritas or something in the 100-150 range. What do you guys think? Thank you all in advance
  12. Every night before a tournament I get the feeling I did as a little kid the night before Christmas, I just do not want to sleep and am just dying for it to be the morning, and the last hour before I need to get up I wake up every 10-15 minutes hoping it is time to go
  13. Ish is a good guy, at the 2009 classic my (at the time) girlfriend had talked to him at one of the booths before the classic started and when he didn't make the cut, that afternoon her, her dad and Ish were all in the elevator of the hotel together and he gave her his jersey off his back and autographed it for her, definitely a nice guy
  14. I do a sweeping hookset to the sides, doesn't need to be very hard with trebles
  15. With senkos, I just cast out, let it sink to the bottom, and I will slowly lift my rod and let it fall back down once or twice, and if you dont get a bite just reel it back in and throw it to another spot. With U-tail worms and lizards, I fish them veryyyy slow most of the time. I cast them out and let them fall, and they I will just reel up the majority of the slack in my line, and just shake my rod tip for usually somewhere between 5-10 seconds so the worm is just kind of dancing in place. This is when I get the majority of my strikes on these worms. Then I will just give it a couple of hops off the bottom, and then sit there and shake it a little longer. I repeat this until I get out of the area I believe I will get a strike. I do basically the same with lizards as well, but don't usually dance them for quite as long
  16. I believe they found out because the tournament put all the fish in a tank to be brought over and released, and his fish sank to the bottom of the tank(due to the weight). They knew it was his because it was the only 5+ lber weighed in in the tournament
  17. Absolutely can be done, I usually use 1/4-1/2 oz tungsten weight with a brush hog skin hooked to avoid catching the grass. I let it get all the way to the bottom, then lift it up a couple feet off the bottom with a slow lift of my rod and then let it drop back down through the grass. I usually have the weight peg a few inches up the line so that it can stay off the bottom a little bit when it drops back down
  18. Fork, I just love catching huge largemouth (really, I would like to go to falcon more though)
  19. the rain is definitely helping, I got out last friday in the rain, only got 4 but they were a 3, two 4s and a 7
  20. I usually fish booyah or stike king spinnerbaits, but I had a BPS gift card so I bought some war eagles, first day using them had a huge pickerel bend the wire out at a 90 degree angle right above the head, wasn't too happy. Last year I was throwing a new BPS swimbait and backlashed and snapped the line... I tied a treble hook on to drag the bottom to try and get it up, as I got over to where it went in the water, there was about 6 inches of braid left floating on the top of the water
  21. I skip flukes and if the water is warm enough horny toads
  22. It has been on and off, the weather has been really wierd up here. My biggest so far this year was just under 8, on a horny toad. New baits I have been getting into are zoom Ol' Monsters, I have never been much of a worm fisherman but I have gotten really into them this year and had some very good days with them
  23. Do you fish all over the pond? A pond I fish, it's bigger than what you are talking about but still not huge by any means, has a very shallow section that we will catch loads of fish out of in the spring, but between early and late june, it empties out and we rarrely get anything out of that section. They may just be moving to a different area of the pond
  24. I give a yell most of the sometime when I catch a big one, not a maniac by any means though. When I lose a big one, I usually just start swearing like a sailor, one time on a monster that I lost right next to the boat I slammed my rod down just out of reflex because I was ticked but I slowed myself down before I let go of it because I knew better so it thankfully didn't break. Catching a big one or losing a big one, I always sit down and light a butt after cuz I get all fired up and need to settle myself down
  25. I fish the spots that seem to have most numbers of fish during the day time with something topwater, usually a horny toad. I give it quick jerks with the rod tip to make the legs kick a little louder/faster every 5-10 yards to just give them something a little different
