  1. Thanks for the replies. The cover that I fish varies a great deal from pads so thick it seems you could walk on them at times to what I would consider fairly light. It seems like most people so far prefer the Dobyn's rod over the Powell. Both brands interest me as they are not common off the rack brands in my area. I can only really handle the St. Croix and Loomis brands readily. From what I can tell there is also about a 60 dollar price difference between the Dobyn's Champion series and the Powell Frog rod.
  2. Yes, I am referring to the Champion series rods not the Savybseries from Dobyns. Thanks for the feedback.
  3. Hello, I am trying to find a dedicated Frog rod. Currently I have a St. Croix 7'6 that I use for flipping and pitching Jigs. It doesnt seem to do as well with the Frogs as I would like. My next steps down are more or less Med or Med/Hvy 7' rods that work better for Spinner baits and Worms. I tried a friends Daiwa rod that was a Frog specific rod and liked it aside from the price. I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on the Powell vs the Dobyn's I can see they are similar in size and power. I want to find the one that is the easiest to cast. I am not able to feel each rod in person and i want to figure out which one will have the tip that works best to get the frogs where I want them. Right now I am always going back and forth between rods that are not stout enough and ones that are way over the top and have tips that just cant get a frog to the location i want. Any suggestions or feedback is greatly appreciated.
  4. Thanks guys, I just needed a dose of reality. I never planned to get rid of them but figured if the new stuff was that much better I should start to phase them out. I do need one new rod for a few applications that I dont have anything for and that will be the one I will focus on.
  5. Good Morning everyone - I am a new member to the site. I had to take a break from buying new equipment for about 10 years as I started my family and renovated my home. In that time I sold my Ranger boat and replaced it with a aluminum. This year I had to replace a few reels. While out on a few fishing trips I really appreciated the quality updates. For reference I picked up a new Curado and a Revo SX. I have 4 Curado's now including the new one. The others are about 10 years old. I was curious are the rods the same way..should I be looking to replace them. Most of the Rods I have are older St. Croix Avid rods, a few G Loomis rods including one Medium Heavy GL3 and a 843 Crankbait rod. In addition I have a few older Team Daiwa rods. They show age but they have worked fine. I am curious if a new Powell, Dobyn's or StCroix or Loomis rod would be head over heels better than the older ones at this time? I was looking for something that would work for Frogs. Right now I use my Flipping rod and just swap out the Jig for the frog. I wanted to stop doing that and get a new rod for that purpose. While getting that one should i be looking to replace the others or would they still be similar in terms of quality today versus 10 years ago. Thanks in advance for any feedback
