  1. Thanks, guys. Probably my problem is "operator error" or, possibly, the old reel has lost its ability to smoothly release the line, like it needs , a much heavier bait or plug to pull out the line. Think I'll just switch to one of my spinning reels and see if I can cast it without tangling the braid.
  2. I would like to have braid line on one of my rods. Tried it on an old casting reel and it barely casts and ends up in a tangle almost every time. Can anyone tell me if a spinning reel would give me better results and be more likely to avoid the braid-line bird-nest tangles? Thanks! Nod
  3. Okeechobee is a fine small town, and a fisherman with a boat couldn't find a more productive bass lake and area canals and creeks/rivers We moved here from Michigan in 1987 and have never regretted it. Restaurants are many but not fancy. Couple of chain eating spots probably have the best ambience. While not hardly a Palm Beach or even a Stuart, homes come in all sizes and prices. Real estate market here has never recovered. My wife and I went out to a friend's new (to them) house purchase at the Okeechobee Country Club a few days ago. OMG, it is a home of more than 3,200 sq feet and they got it for considerably under $ 200,000. Owners of a similar house next door are still asking for more than $300,000 and will never get that much. In my gated subdivision, homes that were goiing for over $200,000 are now selling in the mid 150s (and even less). Okeechobee is a thumbs up community.
  4. Years and years ago (before all the new-fangled stuff came to market), us oldtimers (when we were young) bought jars of white pork rind that we used as trailers. Wouldn't be surprised if pork rind still would work.
  5. Thanks fellas. And, New2b, thanks for the fountain of youth Those extra 14 years just melted away. Nod
  6. I joined this site several months ago and have not been at all active. I haven't fished for a zillion years, but due to being older than dirt and crippled up, most of my activities have been eliminated (golf, airgunnng, bowling, etc) but the one thing I believe I can do is shore fish (can't boat or wade) with the help of a walker. Renovated some old gear and bought some new stuff to try freshwater, saltwater and even fly fishing. Have one question. Found an ancient bait casting reel and want to change the line on it. Can I replace its antique line with modern line. Like can I put some mono line on it? I've got good stuff but I would like to put the reel on an old rod of mine so that I can attempt to yank lmb from heavy, grassy areas in a subdivision pond without risking damage to my new gear. Sorry for the long and probably dumb question but, honestly, I haven't fished in years and hardly know what is going on in the sport any more. Thanks for any help you can give me. Nod
