Don't rule out Scrounger's Swim Jigs. I've been catch lots of fish on those. Especially the Citrus color,( fluke trailer works best for me.)

I think you made a great choice, 6:4.1 is a all around ratio for any type of fishing. Most people use the 5:4.1 gear ratios for cranking or slow rolling Spinnerbaits, like aprw1 said. Either reel is a great choice, but I would stick with the all around 6:4.1 gear ratio.

Sweet reels! JDM reels always arouse the bait monkey. Lol

If I bought one of those baits, I would be afraid I'd lose it. They are getting pretty crazy if you ask me.

I fish mine like a spinnerbait. I use different retrieves such as stop and go, slow rolling it, burning, and varying the speed. Take your time to figuire what the Bass want. A Swim Jig is like a Spinnerbait, but a Swim Jig can go where a spinnerbait can't through thicker cover. I like pitching to cover and reeling back to the shore/boat, or open water; but they can be fished basically anywhere. I like Swimbait type trails for open water and sometimes cover, but I use craw trailers around cover mostly. You can fish it without a trailer, but I prefer to have it on. You can match the hatch or mix colors, whichever you prefer. Black & blue imitates a bluegill so a Swimbait trailer is what I would use.

Take it to Walmart ask if you can swap rods, they should let you, but if they don't, call Abu Garcia. They have great customer service.

If you use 40# braid it's is the same equivalent to 12# monofilament. If you would like Braid some suggestions are Power Pro and Suffix. FluroCarbon: Seagar or P-Line. Monofilament: Suffix or Berkley. If you still feel the fish can see your braided line you can always use a leader. If you fish in clear water I suggest FluroCarbon.

Zoom finese worm worked well for me, I had to really slow down to give these a try, and stick with them. It payed off in the end!

Congrats on the new gear! Some suggestions around the $100 range are the Lews Speed Spool and the Abu Garcia Orra Winch. Both offer 5:4.1 and a 6:4.1 gear ratios. The Orra Winch just came out, but if its anything like the last one it will be a good cranking reel. From what I've heard the Speed Spool is really worth the money, but it has been out longer and I have read more reviews on it more then the Orra SX.

When I first saw the post I had to read it twice lol. Duckett Reels, sounds very interesting.
