  1. My sons place has mat rat classes for that age and they start actual BJJ at 5 he has been doing it for almost a year and a half now. It is great all around exercise and teaches a lot that is missed in today's society (especially in schools and amongst peers)....respect, team work, winners and losers, self control. And IMO I prefer BJJ because of the sheer physicality of it. The kids are grappling and wrestling around on each other versus standing and kicking at the air. It is something young kids can get into. Checkout some of the BJJ comp videos of the Pan American Championship. The matches are intense, even a roll between 7 yr olds can be a sight.
  2. I have a 40, 35 and 20 size reels. My 40 doubles as my inshore reel. It doesn't bother me one bit. The 35 size balances with rods a little easier but the reels are great. I can run plenty of 10, 12, 14 mono or 30# braid on these. Pretty much do anything you want with it. Fish weightless plastics, Texas rigs, topwater, lipless. It is all preference if your used to small delicate reels or have dainty hands then you might not like it
  3. Yeah they are up here in NE FL too, that is how u can tell if it is safe to swim. Nutria = no gators Right now they aren't that bad, they are mostly in heavy residentsial areas, swamps and old ponds the gators seem to keep them in check. Just curious if they were python food too
  4. Didnt think about hogs, that right there will keep them full and healthy. Is there nutria down there?
  5. Try doc irv custom baits....if bitters doesn't have it
  6. That sucker looked healthy and well fed too! Wonder what it feeds on to get that thick
  7. Thee bass thought it looked GREAT! Only complaint from them was it had hooks lol
  8. Cool man hope you like it. What rod is it going on?
  9. Yeah, no problem...anytime.
  10. For me, I fish exclusively from the bank and retention type ponds, MH is fine, light pads, grass, hydrilla, no problem. But that isn't like the stuff in say the glades or chobee.
  11. What the captain said and I like June bug red flake too especially morning.
  12. 6/0 twist lock(gambler sells their version) weightless up to quarter oz. weightless most of the time.
  13. If you make it over to 4th street and 22nd that pond is in a nice park with reasturants in walking distance in a nice area of old st pete. Shemps is there too if you like a variety of beer, may want check out Harvey's 4th st grill for a grouper Ruben, 4th street shrimp co. Or in the beach area Dockside Dave's for the biggest fried grouper sandwich. All the above (other post) listed spots are in pretty decent areas, stay away from anything south of central ave. gets rough down there.
  14. Found it! http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/129121-pinellas-county-pond-fishing/page-2#entry1431678 Salt isn't too difficult you can get shrimp and a circle hook, or a grass spoon, some sort of topwater or jerk bait. Pick up a mirrolure or two at Walmart.
  15. Head across the skyway to the Braden river....there is also a thread on here and when I get a chance I will dig it up but it has a few spots around st Pete for bass. Best bet is fish salt, desoto has some nice secluded areas you can wade. Central have park/bridge is a good spot too if you have no boat.
  16. I would put $100 towards your reel and spend $150 on the rod. In honesty 50-75 will get a nice spinning reel. What Snook and valley sports said most money is definitely best spent on a rod. That is the most important piece of a spinning combo
  17. Gotta say I was thinking falcon when I red your title but I woul say you have three choices, berkely lightning, BPS graphite series, or the Powell as stated above if you want to stay under 75.
  18. Sounds cool man! post up pics of the process. If it is anything like your other stuff it will be great. Sign me up for a couple 3/8 lol
