  1. Yes....another vote for Carbonlite
  2. I really like owner but due to cost have been using primarily VMC or gamagatsu and used bps in the past. I will take the VMC over gammy or bps any day. I have bent gammy and bps easiest out of the four brands. as far as vmc vs. owner I don't lose sleep over the performance. Set the hook they work just like the owners.
  3. A better comparison for you would be a carbonlite to a dobyns savvy. Is it worth the extra? Some say yes because the better QC(over qaulity of the rod) and customer service alone for the dobyns, IMO performance would have to be judged out on the water side by side. Also I see you like smallies, many guys rave about the Fenwick Elitech smallmouth rods throw those in there to compare for good measure.
  4. Grew up the same way....Welcome the millenial generation the new hippies.....or are they yuppies....Heck I don't think they know they contratdict themselves. Part of the reason we have chose to homeschool.
  5. I have had a carbonlite for 2 yrs now, it is a spinning rod. Love it, for the price it cannot be beat. I think however though the Dobyns would be a great rod for that price range. It is not really comparing apples to apples, decide what your looking for.....A great average joe daily rod then carbonlite would be my answer or if you want tourney/enthustists rod then go with the dobyns.
  6. I just picked up the older model of the exceler from cabelas. 49.99 for my 7 yr old/my backup reel. Also cabelas prodigy reel are on sale, they are built based off the daiwa exceler.
  7. Cabelas always has killer reel deals.
  8. I got one...well my son picked it I can't remember if I ever even thrown it. I am gonna have to give it a good look this yr
  9. A-Jay, I think it is safe to say this is one fish Jeff hasn't caught......yet! Hey John, I love it when a plan comes together!
  10. http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/outposts/post/albino-blue-marlin-surprises-anglers-off-costa-rica-definitely-not-a-typical-day/
  11. The lews inshore is cool, 14 pounds max drag and drain holes to was down, tougher guts but not a higher price that the pro....just was talking with a guy about his lexa 300 too for inshore/swimbait reels. That is a bigger reel though. The iron pt is also offered in a 6.4 ratio. Do you like the smaller size reels? One of the three will be my next reel.
  12. I would start with frogs and spinnerbaits then use flukes, senkos, vibe worms and maybe toss a creature to culvert pipes or and cover to be seen after that. Jitterbug at night
  13. Not sold on frogs.....overrated if you ask me.
  14. Might got an idea....I will pm ya
  15. Give em a try watch Glenn's vid they work like a charm. I been in a slump mainly due to lack of time.... Can't complain about OT tho. Nice rod(s) for me in the future and the old lady (yup I call her that no lack of respect there so anybody that has a problem pm me we will straighten it out) is happy too. Feeling feisty tonight jig in the am
  16. Thanks for the info, appreciate it. Sounds like a stout reel.
  17. Nice fish LTrain glad u had a good trip here in fl. How do you like the lexa 300 it is one on my list for a new inshore reel next winter? Always thinking ahead your the first person I seen that has one.
  18. Sounds like a load of horse crap the reel manufacturers concocted to make us buy more expensive metal reels :s .....that said I make sure mine have aluminum frames, don't care bout the side plates.
  19. Dang bud you had a good day. See you got to exploring. What were you catching em on?
  20. Lipless crank, suspending jerkbait, spinnerbait, soft swimbait, jig, crank bait, crank bait
  21. They have vaca house rentals. You can rent a house for the week. I would poke around a little more and see, inquire around about camping. i go in april, I doubt there will be fish like this spawning let alone the campsite area but will keep you posted. You been following the thread? The fish are typically deeeep like 20-25 feet. I was talking to my cub scouts and couple of their parents grew up here and stayed/been numerous times. It is also a wildlife management preserve and like the thread mentions a couple ponds can be accessed from the opposite side of the WM area.
  22. I agree with what everyone said but the best two baits mention are the spinner bait and senko/dinger. One is a reaction bait, weedless and seldom hangs up. The other and be rigged a couple ways, weedless and worked really slow for thougher bite. Start with those two and slowly build from there.

  24. Thanks....Yeah I figure Vargas is solid for 3-4 before last season he is a good bounce back candidate. You will find deals on corners and shortstop, they seemed to last the longest. I probably coulda waited on both my 3b a pick or two later. Panda and another decent 3b, Donaldson, went behind both them I just didnt have enough faith in either and rather go with youth if machado fails to be 100%
