  1. Bomber Square A in babybass is a very effective color for me for catching bass. If that counts?
  2. Nice fish. congrats to your bro......Zoom frogs r the $h!% !
  3. Nice fish. The vids work. I tried to look it up myself there are plenty of pictures of queenfish and it looks like what you guys got, but not a lot of info the most info are from australian websites. http://www.sea-ex.com/fishphotos/queenfis.htm http://www.barramundi-fishing-adventure.com/nt-fish-guide.html
  4. Nice catches..thanks for sharing.
  5. Looks like a young Black Tip Reef Shark....nice work on the good day of fishing
  6. Culprit 10 inch ribbon tail in red shad. Grande Bass Rattle snake in june bug and trophy hunter.
  7. Agree, Balsa B all the way in Chart/Black and Oxbow. I found a store when I lived in Va that sold them for 3.99 picked up a handful....Also Like the Bomber square A in baby bass, Oxbow, Foxy Shad,.....any color really.
  8. I can say 1-4 times a week currently but it usually is 45 mins to an hour each time. now I go atleast once a month on the weekend with my boy we will do 2 to 3 hours. This thread peaked my curiousity....how long do you go when you go? when folks say 2-3 times a week is that 4, 6 8 hours or like me 1 to 2 hours a time? Because to me I feel while I catch a fish or two I am deffinately not out there long enough. It is still fun to go, just wish I was able to do so longer periods of time.
  9. Here in Jax ponds in business parks, apartments, subdivisions etc as long as there are no "No fishing" signs are fair game. worms or other soft plastics, lizards, frogs. Colors I use and most commonly hear and have been told to use are June bug, black, black/blue, red shad, reds, colors that imitate talapia, bluegill etc. the best success I hear from others is on June bug and red shad. I am using culprit 10 inch ribbon tail. And some grande rattlesnakes texas rig or shaky. They are doing ok, still learning the ins and outs of fishing down here and with these type of techniques, but this is what I learned so far.( i didnt really fish when i lived in fla before - caught the bug in va) The best bait tho is the zoom frogs top water. It works well black or black/yellow. With a single 5/0 EWG ur good to go. I am also doing ok on rebel pop r or a buzz bait. All these are catching right now for me Or others I have talked to. Hope this helps good luck.
  10. I caught them before up in Lake Frederick. They are pretty big in that lake, plenty 8-10 inches. Worms with a split shot will bring them home all day, even in Dec. I never could quite tell if it was a sunfish or a crappie, either. I just called them sunfish cuz it has the black spot on the gill. But warmouth they might be, it certainly fits the description......It all makes sense now.
  11. My son gets the hang of jerk baits, top water poppers, Zoom frogs, crank baits and swim baits. The top water baits especially the Rebel Pop-R are his favorite because he can see the action and the fish hit. They do take a little work to get the technique down but he has deffinitely caught the most effectively on the topwater. Rapalas and cranks he just retrieves are the easiest but he doesn't really know where to cast (nor do I really want him putting it near something he can snag on), however he does usually get a catch on these, a rougue bluegill or small bass. I agree with roadwarrior the plastics are for the patient, and can get boring. They should love the top water.
  12. I am down off of exit 335 some decent ponds around. The ponds in the communities off bartran parkway and there is an abandon subdivision down there and the business park as well. I tried a couple of the many ponds by the citi bank complex saw people fishing the ones one the way in. Canals over in julington creek look good seen people fishing them. the pond by the park in durbin looks over fished. Gonna try that pond by the preserve since it is fairly close. Will let u know if it is good
  13. I will second that. LOL
  14. Guy I knew from orlando said the biggest he caught was a 9 pounder from a retention pond on a plastic worm. He was also telling me 5-7 pounds were not uncommon there is usually a few that size in each pond. Not too familiar with the area, wish I could help more. But at least with that knowledge when in doubt hit the retention ponds up. My most productive here in Jax(so far) is the pond behind the publix.
  15. Nothing too bad, but the worst so far was when I lived in VA I had an hour drive with a few spots on the way. I was fishing one spot in the summer, the pond was real low, and the creek that feeds the pond was a trickle. I went to step over this little trickle and as I stepped on the other side I landed in the softest mud and went up to my crouch and I luckily got my other leg on solid ground. Needless to say I went to work covered in grey soupy mud, smelling like a swamp.
  16. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/upshot/cannibal-shrimp-invasion-begun-165542739.html Anyone run across these? It is interesting if they are carried by currents etc. in a natural manner is this just survival of the fittest/natural selection or should there be an attempt to erradicate? I am assuming they are good to eat as most prawns/shrimp are?
  17. I know lots of people swear by the Chicken livers. I have used them a couple times, but never had any luck. thanks
  18. Got some store brand buzz baits from Walmart about two weeks ago for a dollar each, they don't run super great, but they sure do get some fish. green/chart is the killer color over the white.
  19. Nice catch. What type bait did you get him with? We had good luck the time I fished the potomac near Harpers Ferry with Helgramites. Nothing close to that size though, biggest might have been 6 pounds.
  20. Nice catch. What did you hook him on?
  21. Berkley leeches on a slip float rigg with w bright colored jig head or circle hook.
  22. Rapala just came out with a new smaller version of the floater for 5.99 supposed to be for ultra light applications for perch and bluegills. Tinking about picking up some for my son. But u can also use Manns makes a little crank like hard bait. Rebel makes the wee series, they also have a good line of small craws and grasshopper baits that work too. Is there any red ears down here in Fl? I used to get the big ones on night crawlers and a split shot.
  23. The ramp in front Royal to the low water bridge is pretty deep (great for the catfish by the dam in front royal), the part from the low water down to route 50 ramp is also fairly deep. This is the area that they stocked the muskies in. Last year I heard a guy got a 42 inch muskie above the low water bridge. If you could I would enter at the low water bridge and float down from there it has some good pockets for smallies and cats.. Have you ever been to watermelon park? It has the reputation of being a hang out to the local fruit pickers and sometimes it can be full of trash(as can the rte 50 ramp). We did a camping trip on the Potomac last June, Left out of Brunswick and went up to some islands accross from knoxville. The whole bank from Harpers Ferry to Dickerson is C&O Canal Park. you can camp on the islands or the bank on the MD side. Caught a ton of Smallies on jigs, live shiners, and rapalas(blue/silver). Picked the C/O and some creeks for helgramites, the catfish loved them, We even got one walleye on a rapala(rainbow trout).
  24. Talapia are in Fl too, they are a cichlid as well. All the larger cichlids you can catch in Fl are decent to eat, it is also erged by Florida fish and wildlife to not release the invasive species, so grill away LOL
  25. **** I have order there twice, very fast shipping, email tracking but most of all great selection. The frist time I got some bomber and diawa jerk baits, the diawa bait for 6.99 run true out of the box. for the price it is hard to beat the quality! and the second order was Grande Bass rattle snakes and mega tail n some owner hooks. I have yet to use them just got them Monday. *** is overrated in my opinion, they lack selection.
