  1. Just keep it interesting, catching fish any size keeps them interested or tadpoles, bugs etc. I have been guilty of trying to catch bigger fish and getting skunked with them, u know u wanna wow them, but they don't care. For blue gills or sunfish I use pieces of worms or Berkeley crappie nibbles. If we try for bass like today he uses tiny cranks, poppers, swim baits and grubs. He only recently started to recently use worms and he really does what he wants, when I said his version of shakey head,I meant it, he had that thing rocking but it got bit. He uses a small spinning reel, on a 5' zebco rod. Patients helps too there will be tangles. Oh one of the biggest things is use a snap, I never used a snap at first but now I do, doesn't make a difference fish will bite, he had one on today. It makes lure changes easy.
  2. Yeah man it is a blast to take the boys out.....LOL I would swap reels back with her.
  3. This was a couple weeks ago, my younger ones first time out with us(we took the whole gang, momma and baby where there too), he was dying to go. he is 2.5 yrs old Just catching some blue gills.....We have been a few more times since, I have him to where I ask "what are we doing after dinner Nate?" He says "Fishin'....Go Fishin'" LOL
  4. your 5 yr old out fishes you? LOL nah I am pretty proud of him today, he had 4 strikes and 2 lands, the lands came on this little BPS crank he got last weekend, and two misses where on a Strike king KVD finesse worm in money green, he was doing his own shakey head, around some culverts in the pond, one miss was a nice one probably 15 inches or so, just couldn't set the hook on em. I got one strike myself on a bass colored fluke. We hit the water about 6:30 and out of there about 7:30, he was a few minutes late to school, but well worth it.
  5. If your in St Pete try the Grouper Ruben at Harvey's 4th street, it is awesome......They make great sanwiches all around, their traditional ruben is good too. Turkey expresss...mmmmmh
  6. I use strictly spinning cuz that is what I was taught on. I am wanting to get a bait caster and try it but don't exactly have the funds to throw that way right now. But like Sir Snook and Marty said you can do darn near anything with a spinning setup and 10 pound mono or 20 pound braid will haul u in almost any fish. I fish 99% of the time from shore and u get it done, flip pitch side arm or throw the bait out. Lol
  7. Nice catch. U know there is a Gander Mountain right down 95 in St. Augustine exit. Bout same as going to Orange Park, way better fishing section. and there was another store up on atlantic called Academy, they have a lot of discounted or no longer made items from the couple of folks I talked to
  8. Same here, lots of ponds with bluegill as the main forage and a T-rigged weightless, just roll it slow throw the weeds seems to produce.
  9. I know several ponds near that are extremely thick in veg, I will have to give this a try. thanks.
  10. that sounds like the life right there. Lol
  11. I am at the spot between 5-6:30 because I have to at work by 8:30. But really any time of the day I would fish. I think day break does have certain advantages but might just be a mental thing I tell myself to motivate my butt getting up and ready that early cuz like basshunter I have caught at all times top water and all different times on other lures as well.
  12. Yeah it took me 2 yrs before I saw a gator when I lived in St Pete. the pond on AC Skinner near Belmont has a big gator I am told. Another was spotted at a park. Check out Guana lake, catch some reds and see some gators. Cottonmouths are all over, shoot the one on the corner of racetrack n bartram, they are pretty much everywhere. We saw a Pygmy rattler at the preserve. If u like hiking check it out, there is a 2 mile round trip to a creek that looks straight un touched bayou. Pygmys are very common too, and they are too small to hear their rattle so watch where u step. Speaking of stepping u get a chance to be bit by the fire ants lol I just stepped in a nest the other day man, not fun. And scorpions too, just found one hiding in a closet. U be careful out there lol Florida is a jungle.
  13. Nice fish. Better be careful that monster might be a gator lol
  14. That takes some guts to admit on a public forum. Lol
  15. I was shown it with a single hook and it hasn't failed me yet. The zoom toad hooks are just a single hook with a screw lock if that helps you out, seems like they are designed for a single hook.
  16. Other than the popper in blk/chrome, blue/silver or tenn. shad, zoom toads in blk/yllw swirl, or buzz baits in white or green/chart work for me. You will find lots like the zooms, they are a fav of a few around here. Lol
  17. Ironically Wicked Reelz posts on another forum that is Delware based LOL. Anyway, lots of posts or should I say boasts. Tries to be helpful on there, I don't know how the service is but all the talk is a turnoff for me.
  18. Nah that wasnt me I was there in the am. Til about 10:30. Went this morning little later than I wanted got 4 half strikes on a zoom toad the I left went to publix I had the one I was after but it eluded me again. Zoom trick worm keeps balling on hookset. SMH ..,,.......what kind of knot u using? How many # line? I use palomar knot on my hooks, the line will snap before that knot will give. Lol
  19. Do u know or fish the one big one pond behind a business park on AC Skinner, close to Belmont intx? how bout near the library?
  20. I will show u some pics of what I got most r 12-15 inches, but right at the cover u where at I got a pretty nice 3 pounder on a zoom frog it was at day break tho.
  21. Wow! U got it made right outside ur door lol. Nice catches Thanks for sharing. It hit up that pond near racetrack and bartram sat, we were a little late. Deffinatly some bass, most caught or seen were smaller. Looks heavy fished tho, found someone's old senko type bait, and another couple people showed up but didn't stay long. I want to hit it up earlier, let u know if I get anything.
  22. Size of the rings the trebles go on, you can also change how it runs by using or not using rings where you tie a bait on, pinching or changing angle of the tie on point will also change it. Some of the videos on in fisherman or nbc sports channel, it might be that strike king product vid I am thinking of, go into detail on some of the tweaks. I recall seeing on bait would run at angle out of the box the they changed some things and it ran perfect. I don't even attempt the stuff but it is cool to watch them, like an art form or something
  23. Doesn't he modify the **** out of them so they run all kinds of different from the "out of the box versions"? Maybe yours are just not "tweaked" properly lol
  24. Nice catch man, I think I know where your talking about. It is about 10 minutes from me. My neighbor was telling me that many of the pond in that area hold nice fish. You ever fished the Pond on the corner of Bartram Park blvd and Racetrack? I have seen a few people at that and the ones past 95 on Racetrack near the hound track. Also If you go up Bartram park blvd towards old st. augustine road to your right there will be a subdivision with road and no houses there are 2 ponds in there and 1 on the edge that hold fish, they are really clear though and the other is heavy weeds. Keep going and you will see a business park on the right, seen people fish it I have been for like 15 minutes and nothing. The other spot is up at the intx of Batram and Old st Augustine, that big pond behind publix holds some nice ones. Almost hooked one today, it is always good for at least a 1 pounder. Fish either end, by Bono's or Behind Kohls. It is a lot of area I know by the culverts and the spill way have them and the cove by bono's and the apartments do too. But I need to google earth it and see if I can get a pic of it dry I want to know what the middle does.
  25. My favorite would be Rebel Pop R Zoom Toads are a close second, There is just something a little better about the bait sitting still then BAM versus TiiiiizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzBAM ....both are cool!!!
