Putting spool into reel puts a load on the gears and bearings. Being a metanium, I would guess it’s gears or the lower pinion bearing. I wouldn’t bother flushing and attempting to clean frame bearings. Just replace them with a quality SS. Both Spool bearings though need to be flushed(correctly) and oiled with a small single drop of oil. Stock shimano bearings spin forever cleaned and dry.
Probably wasn't assembled correctly when you got it. I don't see this too often but it happens. Take the springs and stretch them slightly. you aren't gonna hurt anything. When you put the handle side plate back on, put the handle side plate on from above and watch to make sure the springs don't compress sideways on the yoke post. make sure they go straight down. They don't seat on anything except those posts.
Kistler has moved away from NFC blanks, per Cal after Trey had a conversation /w him, and have partnered /w many "elite carbon factories from around the globe". Didn't say specifically why but I'm assuming the hike in NFC blank costs to him had to do /w it.
Well Powell is a different rod company and unfortunately, rod powers aren't universal throughout the industry.
The 735 in both the savvy and the champ have a very unique XF tip which allows them to very easily and effectively pitch and cast baits a tad lower than you would feel ideal.
For example, I throw my Trig for the most part on DX744's and jigs on DX745. I would not want to throw (although it could but not well) a 1/4oz weight + power worm on the X745 but would and do easily do it on the 744. The champ 735 (not 733 or 745. these have a F tip) has an XF tip that can pitch a 1/4oz weight + plastic and is very very easy to cast/pitch jigs in the 3/8+ range. the champ 734 is more ideal for plastics but not 1/2oz jig + trailer in cover. Personally, if I had to to two techniques on one rod, I'd rather have too much rod than too little.
If you aren't fishing in areas where you really have to pull fish out of brush/trees and what not, the 734 is a very good 3/8 jig rod and a texas rig rod and also not a bad senko rod.
I did not read the part about tubes initially. get the 734.
don't let grantman sway you into the 704. he's a small man. 734 is a mans rod.
