  1. My son loves crankbaits. But if they're not working, he's ready to go within the first 45 minutes or so. I'm still trying to pull something new out of the bag - worm, jig, spinnerbait, yum craw, something. Now, he's not so interested in fishing unless the conditions favor his crankbait skills. Honestly, they fit his temperament best anyway, because he hate to fish slow. Boring to him. So, if I tried to get him to leave the cranks at home and fish with a T-rig and worm all day, he may never go back. Sometimes, temperament and skills are everything.
  2. In case you're still hunting information regarding the recommended techniques for new Fenwick Smallmouth rods, here is some information that I FINALLY found regarding the purpose for each of the rods. It came from a press communication, presumably originally from Fenwick's PR firm (see here). One-piece spinning models: 6’3" medium action designed for 1/8- to 3/4-ounce tubes 6'3" medium heavy action for 1/4- to 3/4-ounce jigs 6’9" medium light action for 1/16- to 5/8-ounce grubs 6'9" medium action for lures weighing 1/8- to 3/4-ounces 7’4" medium action for 1/8- to 3/4-ounce deepwater applications One-piece baitcast models: 6’3" medium action version for working 1/4- to 5/8-ounce jerkbaits 6’9" medium action for 3/8- to 5/8-ounce spinnerbaits 6’9" medium heavy action for 3/8- to 1-ounce jigs 6’10" medium action for 1/8- to 5/8-ounce tubes 6’10" medium heavy action for 3/8- to 1-ounce crankbaits I have a 6'9"" M-XF coming any day now, but wish I had seen these before hand...although I'm not sure I would have ordered anything different. Smalljaw67 has already tested his on 6" Slug-O's, shakey heads, and senkos, as well as "small jigs and tubes to throwing 3/8oz spinnerbaits and heavier texas rigs." (BTW - thanks for the good info, Smalljaw.)
