  1. Hey guys, I have been extremely busy with work this summer, and have my first tournament with CMU on the 18th. I've never fished Houghton lake, and I was hoping you guys could give me a little direction if possible. Baits, colors, anything really. I know my boater will help me out a bit but I'd like to be a bit more prepared. I plan on pre-fishing the lake next week some time. Any help would be great, Thanks! Christian
  2. For the first time I used my jig rod for a frog rod this past weekend, I would suggest something with a fast tip and not an Xtra Fast tip. Thats the only complaint I had about using it as a dual purpose rod. I was using a 7'2 MH XF Crucial, which I love for jigs, just not the right action for a frog for me. Hope this helps. Christian
  3. Love my Crucial! Buy it before they get rid of the life time warranty. Christian
  4. If only I had a boat with a fishfinder instead of a canoe... il try my best tomorrow. Christian
  5. Hey guys, I am on a family vacation down in Nashville, and we rented a cute small cabin on Old Hickory lake. We are next door neighbors to Dolly Parton! But, more importantly, have a great lake to fish. All that i have found is that there is a lotttttttt of shallow rock. Murky water, maybe 3 or 4 feet of visibility, and no weeds at all. I have tried a jig and trailer, got one largemouth on a foxy shad spinnerbait, nothing on senkos, cranks, or topwater either. There are a ton of schools of what I am assuming is Shad swimming around? I can see fish attack these schools occasionally, and have seen bass jump multiple times. Any clues on how to get into some bass here would be greatly appreciated. Christian
  6. Awesomensounds good. Thank you! Christian
  7. I heard there were molding issues with the ascend, so now im looking at a predator 13 or a ride 115. Any reviews on these? And whats a hybrid boat? Chrisitian
  8. How do you like that yak? Im looking for an angling kayak and I cam across that model. Christian.
  9. So I guess im kind of getting mixed reviews here. I may have to just go see how managable it is for myself. Christian
  10. Good to know. How do you keep them atatched to the yak? Or do you just lay them on there?
  11. Youre a great guy Darren! Thanks for the help. Do you mind if I PM you to get a little more info? Christian
  12. Thanks for the help! I would like to stay around that price range, then I can buy a fish finder, car roof mounts, maybe a paddle, or shallow water anchor systems. Seems like it will give me some room to play. Any idea if there is still good castability with 7' rods in the flush mount rod holders? Christian
  13. So, im in the process of selling my boat, and switching over to kayak fishing. It will be easier on my wallet and just ease of transport between two houses. I was looking at the Ascend® FS128T Sit-On-Top Angler Kayak. It seems like a solid starting kayak for the money, and would leave me room to add accesories like a fish finder. A Hobie is out of my price range, and a old town predator 13 is pushing the limit too. Any help pr suggestions would be great!
  14. They wont be in there all the time, and my windows are usually open. But I dont want to have to worry about it if theyre in my car all day while im at work or anythimg.
  15. Will storing your rods with a very slight bend in the tip hurt them? I got the rod organizer from TW that lets you hang the rods on along the length of the ceiling in your car, and it works great. Although some of my longer rods have a tiny tiny bend in the end of them at the front. Will this harm them? They will almost always be in here. Christian
  16. My set up is a 7' M MF Shimano Clarus with a 6.4:1 Pro Qualifier. I have 30lb braid on it, and only use a leader sometimes. So theres that haha. Christian
  17. Thanks for the info smalljaw! Maybe il just have to find a worm in the same color. Il try the jig head too. Christian
  18. No the worm is litteraly a Power bait Shaky Worm, texas rigged. Its just a small 5" finess worm. Thanks for the responses guys. Christian
  19. I was getting into some decent fish yesterday using a Shaky worm, but I could only get one fish out of each worm. The bait would rip off and fly away once the fish jumped, would light wire hooks help my issue? I was using a 3 or 4 offset worm hook. Thanks Christian
  20. I completely agree with this. You can sit their their play with a reel, turn the handle, free spool it. All you can do with a rod is hold it.
  21. Are your overkill hook sets causing the problem? You could be setting it so hard that your ripping it out of its mouth and barely catching it by the lip. Just a thought. Christian
  22. Give us an update on how you like that rod? I've always been interested in them but haven't heard much. What model did you get?
  23. The chatterbaits are awesome, very durable too. I spent a three hour fishing session banging an all white one off sea walls and rocks and just a little bit of paint came off. They have produced very well for me, and I have always used a trailer. As of right now just the trailer that comes with it. Christian
  24. Lol. I just thought id "strike a pose". I do like fishing for toothy's though, just not when im bass fishing!
  25. Pics added to the main post, and here is a few more.
