  1. Very very similar to plasti-dip, I've been using plastidip for the last year with amazing results, they also have it in colors other then black..
  2. Last summer was fishing a tourney here on Muskrat lake, cold front had just passed through, winds were howling, we fished the same spot all day, using tubes and drop shot. I knew the fish were there so why move. We got 6 bites for 5 fish that day which landed us in 4th place with 18lbs. That's always a problem do you stay on one spot and grind it out? Or move and search for something that may not even be there?
  3. Do you mean the 795? There isn't a 7'9" 4 power rod in the dobyns line up.
  4. I have both the 744/745. The 744 has got to be the most versatile rod in the DX line up. I use it for t-rigged plastics. Depending on cover you may want to make the step up to the 745. I use the 745 for jigs. The grip is usually personal preference, although I find the full grip balances better with my tourney pros. Favorite reels I've fished are the TP's, all I can ask for and more, the weight savings alone was enough for me to make the choice. DX744 with a tourney pro is a dream to fish!
  5. The main reason I went with Dobyns extremes over Loomis GLX's. I'm not a fan of split grip at all, I find they do not balanced correctly. I believe Dobyns is the only company that gives you the choice of either split/full grip.
  6. The way I have always done it, Burning double willow spinnerbaits for smallies-always using a trailer hook Slow rolling double Colorado's for largies-always use a trailer.Usually a single rage tail grub, or GY double tails.
  7. Dobyns DX743,DX744,DX745,735C Sunline FC Sniper Fluoro #7,#16,#20 I may have went a little overboard
  8. I don't know about the 784ML I have read that it has a much softer tip then the 785 flip, 784 being better suited for deep water jigging.
  9. fixed! Yes Dobyns or the next best thing to a GLX. I'm not a fan of the new GLX's so i want to go a different route. Dobyns DX series seems to fit the bill.
  10. Looking to fill a spot with a rod, and having a hard time deciding what fits the bill, Dobyns 745dx or 795 flip, Original plan was to pick up a BCR894 but that opputinity is gone now. The rod would mainly be used for flipping/pitching 3/8oz up to 3/4 jigs/ Texas rigs into medium to heavy cover. Grass, pads, fallen timber and the odd submurged trees. But also be used for punching matts/thicker grass the odd time 1oz- 1/2oz. I have heard of guys punching with the 795, but not sure if it is cut out to do so. last but not least it has been mentioned to me that the 795 loves braid, 745 better suied using fluro? Any thought, suggestions?
  11. First cast on my new cumara/ci4 setup and I hook into this on a shakey head, and 6lb test!
  12. +1 I'm heading down from Canada to Florida for a wedding, and need to find a way out to the Big O!
  13. Try a ML setup, I use a ML fast 6lb sometimes even 4lb FC for shaky heads, split shoting, wacky. Think finesse...light lines, light rods.
  14. 7'2" ML Fast Cumara, wonderful rod, lots of tip with plenty backbone...though %80 of the time in fishing under a 1/4oz tungsten, paired with a ci4 I originally was using 10lb ghost braid, but quickly made the switch to 6lb FC, if you can find a good deal on the previous model Cumara jump on it!
  15. X-zone Slammer. A very popular bait here up here in Canada fishing the st.lawrance river. Pretty much my go to cold water smallmouth bait, rigged on a drop shot this thing is deadly! Favorite color has got to be Green Pumpkin Copper Purple!
  16. this one was even better
  17. What hook is that!?
  18. Fluro all the way, unless im in the really thick stuff. When i fish a jig im always watching my line, i find braid bows and lays on top of the water to much, especially if there is any wind! I want my jig to fall as straight as possible not swing back towards the boat. i use anywhere from 15lb-25lb depending on cover. The abrasion resistance is also a plus, up north theres a ton of rock, wood and zebra mussles!
  19. My ci4 is going to look amazing on the new Cumara d/s rod! I'll post a pic up asap of the setup together!
  20. Oh baby! I loved my old Cumara's but these new ones are unreal! i never fished with a Cumulus, but do these rod's ever feel amazing! cant wait to get these on the water!
  21. This is probably my go to technique, Matt Allen's swim jig videos really helped me in getting into swimming a jig. In terms of jigs I originally started using Dirty Jjigs finesse/California swim jig exclusively paired with Roboworms EZ Shad. As I got more comfortable and familiar with this rig I decided I need to get a rod/reel dedicated for this technique, I opted to go with a 7'11" MH XF Shimano Cumara, topped off with a Lew's tourney pro 5:4:1. I find most anglers are using a high speed ratio for this technique, I use the exact opposite, I slow roll swim jigs over grass 90% of the time, the 7'11" lets me get those extra long casts over big flats is where I find this bait really shines. With a 7:1:1 I find I'm fishing way to fast, I really had to slow down to perfect this style of fishing. Now a days I'm still using Dirty Jigs, but have also started using NorthStars Flip&Swim jig,I rely on X-zone Swammers as my trailers, really the only trailer use now, very similar to a keitech. Swimming a jig has really eliminated the use of a spinnerbait for me, it's just so much for productive, doesn't get hung up, and puts big fish in the boat.
  22. Novemeber smallmouth rigs
  23. +1 for the 765 from Dobyns, i also use this rod for swimming jigs and ocasionally use it for frogs. great all around stick
