  1. Cool! Thanks NCBassmaster. ;-)
  2. When you all are talking about jigs do you cast them and then reel them in or drop them straight down from the boat and bob them up and down?
  3. All we as fisherman have to do is be one step ahead of the bass............or is it one swim ahead...............either way. LOL
  4. A few of us fish around here together. We can meet up sometime. :-)
  5. @ncbassmaster- thanks for the info! You're right on target. I think all of my practice in the ponds will help me in the lakes. . :-) @sbrown322- I'm in Fuquay Varina right at 401 and lake wheeler intersection. Let me know If you wanna meet up. ;-)
  6. Well said. I have fallen into the situation where the minnows are not producing strikes. I need to search the tackle box when that time comes. :-)
  7. That is because I typed it backwards. LOL Fixed. :-)
  8. Man, that makes sense. Analyze the lake like I do the ponds. When I go to any of the ponds here, I know structure, "sweet spots", places not to throw certain lures as they will most likely snag, and I learned these facts. I will just apply them on the lakes. :-) TY!
  9. I know the feeling. The other day just for giggles I threw a spinner a few times and got nothing. I was like oh well I tried. Put the minnow back on and in like 3 casts I set on a 3lbs.'er. :-)
  10. In my garage holds some of my most prized possessions. Included are my KVD tackle bag with 5 trays of goodies and countless "hidden" compartments, life jackets, and a variety of rod/reel combos. I ventured to Walmart a couple weeks ago and bought a 3 pack of Storm swim minnows 1/4 oz. I have caught TONS of fish with these babies and I just can't seem to use my other lures. LOL! This may seem like a dumb question, but was wondering if anyone else has ever found the "go to" bait and had trouble using the other tools in the box??? Joe
  11. I have been fishing as I posted earlier this year only since January 2012. I have fished about 90% in the local ponds bank and canoe and the rest in the local lakes on my canoe. The 5 ponds I fish range in size from 1-2 football fields in size. I catch a bunch of fish (10-15 in 3 hours avg.) at the ponds. Since I have been doing so well as the bass season picked up here in NC I have not left the ponds. I am enjoying this alot, however my sister in particular said "it is easy to fish a pond" She does not fish but it did get me thinking. I have only caught one small bass in a lake about 2 months ago and have not ventured out since. On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being easy and 10 being difficult, I feel the pond fishing to me is about a 2 and the lake an 8. Reason is I have not gone out in so long. What would you all rate the pond and lake on a difficulty level? Any tips for me as I will try the canoe on the lakes again soon? Thanks! - Joe
  12. I use a Berkley rod Med/Heavy and is 6ft. I have an Abu Garcia Pro Max reel 7:1 and I use it for EVERYTHING!!! I also have a spinning set up rod/reel that I use for everything also. Everyone is different. I don't really have a "set" combo that I use for specific lures. Rather I focus on the line weight, wind conditions, water depth, etc. You may get several different opinions on here, however this is just mine. Just keep a variety of tools in your pouch and get used to how each one provides. Your budget is plenty to get a good set up man. - Joe
  13. Thanks for the pics guys! Nice looking fish too!!!
  14. Man jfrancho you nailed it. :-).
  15. Here in NC the majority of the bass I catch in the ponds and lakes are a light grey and sort of light green color. A handful of bass have been more white color. I see the pros on TV in some of the lakes like FL and TN and the bass they catch are a rich green color sometimes. Does this have to do more with location, time of year, etc.? Thanks! - Joe :-)
  16. Here it is 11:30am in NC and I am watching "Ultimate Fishing" on Fox Sports where they suprised an Iraq War vet with a great gift. Cpl Larry Draughn lost both legs and some fingers in the war and thank God was able to recover to see his wife and toddler son again. Bass Pro Jason Quinn went fishing for two days in FL with the Marine for a HUGE suprise. Larry's dream is to be a pro bass fisherman one day. They just gave him a 2 year pro contract and a bass boat and trailer from Legend. Sorry if this show was old, or a re run but I have never seen it before today and it was AWESOME! Many different fishing lure and supply companies donated the supplies. This is the kind of thing which makes me proud to be part of a sport that can give back to our uniformed men and women. Joe
  17. I read some about and need to read up on more on the scale technique. That does seem to be the most accurate. Next time I catch a big one I need to do that. Thanks! Joe
  18. She had a big belly!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I'm certain of the 6.8lbs. But didn't measure it. See my earlier post it was a typo. :-). Big eyes though lol
  20. Caught her here in central nc in a pond. My friend said 6 or 7 years old because 1 year old per pound. Not sure if that's accurate. :-/
  21. Sorry, 6.8 lbs and the length I am not sure of. Wanted to know about how old she is? Typed those numbers for something else before I posted.
  22. Lol. How old do you think she is at 12.8lbs? About 26.5 inches long.
  23. Caught this bass today, and the eyes seem to "bulge" out a lot more than the other much smaller bass. Is this normal with a big bass, or something wrong with her eyes?
  24. Awesome! Good size small ones too. :-)
