That is some excellent advice A Jay! One thing I should mention also is I did have to interview with the general manager and three or four other managers in the store to find out my competency as well. I had about six interviews over the last several weeks and they had to look at my portfolio of pictures and tournament achievements as well as a full resume with references. So it was kind of like a big job application but it is very exciting !!! Tomorrow night we have an invitational dinner at one of our local churches for fishers of men here in North Carolina. The two guest speakers are Roland Martin and Jimmy Houston !!!!!!' I have a hat and a T-shirt and my wife and my tickets for autographs. Yep I'm a nerd LOL
Lol. New store opened here in NC about a year ago. I spoke with manager about a job there in management but the staffing budget was too low. He kept in contact with me as different positions came up. He had some sales and other spots like that but the full time pay wasn't enough. Then they opened 3 "local pro spots" to help from time to time. He kept his word to help me out. I like the cash and gift cards, but the part I like the most is being there at events and learning from some of the more experienced guys and talking with new anglers getting started.
First of all don't forget Mike Iaconelli smoked the competition back in the day with his John Boat.
Second, I have won tournaments in my 1989 Cajun 16ft. with a Johnson 70 on it. The guys I beat? They would be the guys running their mouths with side comments about my "oldie but goodie" at the launch. Loved driving off with some extra cash as they loaded up their $75k Ranger in their trailers empty handed.
Boats don't catch the fish.....
Just got on with our local BPS here in town as a "local pro". Got a nice jersey, some commercial appearances, and opportunities to speak at store events locally and state wide. Also the other stores compete in tournaments on the east coast that I will be in too. Not to mention I get a little cash for speaking at seminars and some more store gift cards. They also provide me with about $1,500 a year in store allowance. Pretty excited. Feel like I got my "foot in the door" to be the next big PRO!!! lol
:-)
Took your advice. Glad I did!! It was hard to see those coves in the distance as I sat on top of 30 feet of water. But I looked at the electronics and found some humps and drop offs on the bottom. Saw a few arches on the screen and thought "no way!" Well, "way" it was!!! Rattle traps on the bottom and 3 fish in 10 minutes!! 3lbs. 2lbs. and 2.5lbs. Can't wait to use some lizards tomorrow T Rigged as my next lesson. :-)
Thanks!
Joe
Here in central NC ambient temps are about 90 and water sitting about 85. Morning time I throw top water frogs early about 7 am. May get a hit every 50 casts. Buzz baits same thing. Then I try swim baits. Nothing. From about 7am to 11am I stay shallow about 1-6 feet of water in the "coves" of the lake. I then get bored and throw rooster tails to at least get dinks and some blue gills. I see other boats about 25-50 feet from the banks all day long. My gut tells me to stay shallow but apparently I'm wrong. My friend went with me last week and said I should be looking at my electronics to find drops during the day from like 6 feet with with steep drop to 25+ feet. Problem is I have no confidence in my worm fishing and don't know when to use Texas or Carolina or weightless. When the heat of the day comes I guess I waste my time for bass in the shallows???
Thanks BK! Just tuned it up when I got it. Plugs, cleaned carbs, fuel lines, fuel filter, bulb pump, wiring, adjusting the fine tuning, etc.
Like I said it runs like a champ. Just wondered if it was alright. But I guess it's like a big "machine" and designed to run. ;-)
It is mixed in the gas tank. 50:1
It had been run WOT dozens of times for 3-5 minute increments since January. Good pee line, never bogs, never sputters, no excessive smoke (other than sometimes on initial start up), sounds like a symphony of horsepower. :-)
I have three batteries. One for electronics, one for trolling, and one for cranking. All three get the trickle charge after a day on the water. No issues at all.
I have a Johnson 70 two stroke on my 16 foot Cajun. It runs wide open about 40mph. To cover the lake from one end to another running a straight line, it obviously takes me longer than a boat with a bigger motor like a 250. Those guys don't appear to run wide open all the way across. I usually run wide open and then back off to about half throttle every couple minutes. Will it blow up if I stay on it wide open? This is my first bass boat so I don't know??? I've had it since January this year and the motor is perfect. Strong and excellent compression. Motor is either a 1989 or a 1995. Guy couldn't remember when I bought boat from him. Boat is a 1989. He put another motor on it. Original had a crack or something.
