So we are leaving for Disney World January 5th. The second day we are there we are doing the bass fishing expedition. My father in law and I are going in the am on a new Nitro Z 10 bass boat. They just got two of them this past Monday. It is a two hour trip. The lake is Bay Lake 7 seas. Air temps that week are in the mid 70's. Question I have is about equipment. We are flying there from NC and was wondering if I should use their gear, or take one of mine and one of my father in law's rod and reels? The guide told me that they have spinning and bait caster set ups with brand new skeet reese combos. He mentioned I can just bring a couple reels with us. Southwest will have to check in the rods if we take them. The case I found at Dicks is $50 and can hold two complete combos or several rods and I can thow the reels in one of my bags. We have free luggage through southwest but it is only one per person. This would be extra.

Also, people who are wanting repair work done are almost 100% of the time wanting it done NOW! The former close relationship of consumer and small shop owner is almost a thing of the past. Why give the gear to get fixed when you can buy the equipment and do it yourself? Why would I pay 1.5x more than what I can get it for at another store?
In the end you have to make the decision for yourself. Weigh out the good and bad and the profits and losses too. The time put forth in most small businesses in order to ESTABLISH clientele is 3-5 years.
Keep all of these posts as opinions and references. Just be sure to do the thing that is most profitable to you and your friend. Good luck!

Just my humble opinion, but not a good idea. I also buy 99% of my tackle, gear, supplies, etc. from walmart, dicks, bps, and online. The local tackle shop here in NC is almost twice as much on everything! Simply for the reasons mentioned above. The internet is now the go to place.
Man! Some crazy stories here. Glad we can all relate in some fashion. Funny how some people posted they still fished until the day was done,,,,,, then went to the ER. ;-)
My friend did last year. Stepped on treble hook. Went in his heel. Urgent care. Numbed it. Threaded it through. The usual.
Had my first last week. Side of my finger. Had a big crappie. Took the hook out. It flipped around. Pole fell in my kayak and I grabbed the pole but the hook was right there. I just threaded it through until the barb was showing. Clipped. Pulled it out. Little blood. No biggie. Was cold that day so that helped. Cleaned it good with my first aid kit on board. Fished and few more hours. Anyone else have a bad hook experience?

Just got a letter in the mail announcing BPS Cary NC is opening February 2014!
Also, Cabelas is opening in Garner NC February 2015. Going to give Dick's and Walmart and Gander Mountain some competition. All will be within 20 minutes of me and 20 minutes from one another.

Here in NC I battle the same stuff in the winter. I have good fishing gloves, bundled up warm, and learned to fish slow. It has paid off with big fish. The more you concentrate on fishing tough winter conditions, the better off you will be when the weather gets warmer and more ideal.
Never heard of that. However it would be nice though. :-)
Also, Ponds aren't always "shooting fish in a barrel" I know many ponds here in NC that are stocked and have plenty of big bass. If you don't bring your A game, you're skunked.
At least here in NC that's why I believe. Those weeds of any color are a pain in the butt when my lures take them into my kayak. I call it a bass salad. :-/
I was wondering if any of you all ever have tournaments amongst your friends. Whether it be just for bragging rights or for money or for some fishing tackle. It could be from the bank with five or six friends or it could be several kayaks or boats at the local lake. I am thinking about doing a few of these locally here in North Carolina with some friends.
