  1. I agree that they can locate better and have more of the experience than most. I wonder what KVD has pulled out of the water before as his PB?
  2. Saying "last cast for today" ensures a good next outing.
  3. Once your child is able and ready, go ahead and upgrade to a better quality one. Whether it be baitcaster or spinning. If he or she is very interested in fishing make sure to explain to them the differences and get them some good equipment. This character poles are excellent to start out with and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed hers before she upgraded.
  4. Our daughter is 7. She fishes now with a bait caster (since she was 5). She started at 4 years old with a Princess set up like the one you mentioned. We re spoiled it twice and used mono and fluro also. She caught a 4.0 lbs bass a few days before she got her baitcaster. Yes. You can re spool it and catch some little piggies on it too. :-)
  5. I also wonder if the pros are "pros" for the reason that they catch huge DD bass? Or the fact that they catch so many average ones?
  6. "bingo dobber" LOL I've heard a lot of terms before but that takes it. LOL
  7. Does anyone know of a site or anything that tells what the pros have as their PB? I wonder what the biggest LMB is they have caught. Bill Dance mentioned on one of his shows that his was a little over 14lbs.
  8. Your first post on this thread is exactly my story today! I saw a bed with two bass. One was easily 5 pounds. It literally swam off the bed to the shore and the water was just a few inches deep! I literally hit it in the head with two lures and it swam back to the bed acting afraid of the lure! Also, there were about 6 blue gill all over th bed. The bass would every few minutes open their mouths wide and swim after them into the deep. Not one fish, other than a dink grab the end of my swim bait shad and come out of the water a foot then fall off. :-/
  9. I heard similar about the turtles also. I also inadvertently found out similar about frogs. Last year when I had my canoe I was fishing a local pond. I heard a frog croaking across the pond in some brush. Then I heard a huge splash. Then the croaking stopped. :-)
  10. Last night I watched a show called Fighting Tuna for the first time on Animal Planet. Basically was four different ships on the ocean competing for the biggest tuna at the end of the day. It was interesting to see that all four of the captains were searching for activity on the water like birds, whales, and other animal species near the water. One of them made a comment that when you see birds directly on top of, or circling the water top it means they also are looking for baitfish. I found this similar to bass fishing. Usually when I see birds circling near a certain part of the water I know they are also looking for fish. Anyone else use this general rule of thumb also for the birds, turtles, etc. ?
  11. I have an anchor. ;-)
  12. Wind is an advantage if you use it properly. :-)
  13. Caught about a dozen and also two huge crappies. One crappie was very pregnant lol. No bites on spinnerbaits. Caught the prego crappie on a natural color swim bait. All the rest were on a Rapala scatter rap. Chartreuse and natural color. Good day today!
  14. They don't always die, but it is still a ton of trauma to them. Each situation is different. I've gut hooked off a drop shot and pulled some "guts" out with the hook and had to push it back in. Fish swam fine. Then, I had a simple guy hook and it bled profusely. Each case is different. Just remember to take it slow and concentrate in what you're doing. If the fish doesn't look like it's going to make it, properly euthanize with a swift rear skull / spine separation with a sharp fishing knife. Go ahead and eat this one or chum it for the others. Don't ever waste a fish. I always try to keep the bass to swim another day, however if the situation arises that it has to be done, I do it and make sure the fish is well used for food by people or other fish. Joe
  15. How I roll with that mess step by step: 1.) peel off snot grass from lure 2.) sling it off fingers like real snot into the water 3) wipe excess on pants 4) have wife ask "what's on your pants?!" 5) exclaim "lake snot" 6) hear her say "gross! Go take a shower!" 7) :-)
  16. Awesome! It seems like a spinnerbait may be the key today. Going to see how it goes. :-)
  17. My arsenal will be set in the am. :-) I'll keep you all posted.
  18. Thanks guys! Loading up the gear with these suggestions. :-)
  19. Here in NC the snot grass (as we call it) is coming out now. Pain in the you know what. :-/
  20. I also have some scatter raps with fire tiger pattern. The wind will be tough, but those scatters may do really well in the windier conditions because of their evasive maneuvers.
  21. Ok. Spinnerbaits sound good. I have a few different sizes in white also. As for the square bill, should I throw a natural color? Or something bright?
  22. This week has been great weather here in NC. Water temps are just below 70 and plenty of sunshine. Same forecast for tomorrow, except wind will be high at 10-20mph. What is best to throw? Here are the stats: Water about 67 degrees Clear Pond is about 5 acres Will be on my kayak Depths range from 2-15 feet Not sure what to throw in the high winds this time of year? Thanks! Joe
  23. My angling kayak has 4 storage compartments.
  24. That makes sense about slowing down at rocks. Most bass will stay put over there.
  25. Write it on the top of the bill with a black sharpie. :-) Great idea!!!!
