  1. What this guy said.
  2. I more or less ate some jambalaya this morning. Tasted good. REAL GOOD.
  3. As a fisherman, you take what you can get. The only one to truly blame today for a bad days fishing, is me. But at least I was on the water and I had fun fishing some ledges with a football jig even though I didn't catch squat on em.
  4. Well. Perry chewed me up and spit me out today. I got off the water around 11:00 because the wind came out of nowhere. I knew they were forecasting some big wind but holy cow. Only caught one dink. It didn't help that there were two different tourneys going on at the same time while I was out there. All of my spots were loaded with boats. I think I counted maybe 6 boats flipping docks at rock creek at any given time. Caught a saugeye on a deep crank off a point. That was a surprise. Oh well, that's fishing.
  5. Sounds like a string of bad luck there. Sorry to hear that. I'm going out to do battle with Perry tomorrow. If I make it out of there with a 5+ pound class fish I will be happy (that's the goal I'm shooting for). I suppose I'd be happy if I came out of there with numbers too since that has never happened. I'll let you all know how I did here tomorrow or sunday.
  6. I have a herniated disk in my lower back that likes to rear it's head on occasion, especially if I've been doing heavy lifting. It's not the best injury to have in the construction business but you work with what you've got. At it's worst, I took some muscle relaxers and did physical therapy. The physical therapy focused on stretches to loosen the muscles surrounding the disk, and a work regiment to build up the abdominal muscles which help support the lower back. They would also hook a machine up to the injured area to deliver some kind of shock treatment. I no longer keep up the work out regiment (though I probably should.) However, whenever it flares up I tend to practice the stretches 2-3 times a day and pop prescription amounts of ibuprofen. Things will usually settle down anywhere from 3 days to two weeks. I understand the pain. There have been days where it took everything in me to even get up and walk. For those who have never battled with a back injury, be thankful. It can be some of the most excruciating pain you will ever experience. Fight the good fight. If you've not tried pt yet (didn't see if you had or hadn't) I would highly recommend it.
  7. Hey guys, I like catching big bass.
  8. This year I had two hawks fighting each other about 100+ feet in the air. I watched them for a while, as they were really going at it with the screeching. I decided to get back to fishing and only minutes later I heard a giant splash only feet from my boat that scared me out of my skin. Turns out the hawks were fighting over a squirrel and that giant splash came from one of them dropping it. Dang thing almost landed in my boat. I don't want to imagine what a squirrel traveling around terminal velocity would do to my rig, much less my head. Another time I was fishing from shore with a buddy when he told me he had lost a lure the day before in the area I was fishing. A few casts later, I snagged some line which I brought in by hand. On the other end of the line was his lure... and a bass.
  9. I'll be sure to win this fall so I can rub that comment in your face
  10. Hey Shimmy. Didn't you catch that new world record? Somewhere around 26 pounds? Faulty scale or somethin?
  11. I can fish plenty of cold water baits. Just not a jerkbait. Not yet anyway. I'm working on that...
  12. Great? Hardly? Stupid jerkbait bite...
  13. Looks like the hudd, is not a dud (see what I did there?)
  14. I didn't get a dang thing last time. Guess I left too early Did get some hotdogs though
  15. Do you ever have success fishing the main lake points north of the dam? There's 2-3 giant ones. Every time i fish points out there, all I catch are drum and white bass.
  16. I wouldn't mind hearing you disclose more information about perry. That lake kicks my butt almost every time. But in the last year, I've caught one 4.25 smallmouth, one 5.5 largemouth and a handful of healthy 4's and 3 pound green fish, so it keeps me coming back.
  17. That is an expensive lure... I'd be sick for the rest of the day (probably the rest of the month) when and if something like that happens to me.
  18. Big bass bash? We're gonna have our own big bass bash. Write it down folks, I'm catching an 8+ while I'm out there
  19. It wasn't terrible I guess. We boated around 20 fish, but we just couldn't find a rhyme or reason out there. In my honest opinion, there's too much standing timber. It undoubtedly becomes an almost non factor (I say almost because you do catch fish in the timber). The lake, because of the limitless cover options should be more of a structure lake. However, without a contour map and perhaps side imaging, it would be impossible to find out where these key structures are. The timber is such a maze that you spend most of your time navigating through it, rather than paying attention to possible clues to structures hidden underneath you. Fish we did catch almost all came shallow, though I did catch a suspended bass off some timber around 20 fow, and also pulled up a bass in what I would guess to be 12-14 fow off a deep diving crank. We could not figure out a pattern. There were fish hanging around rocks. There were fish hanging around grass. There were fish hanging around timber. The only common denominator was more came out shallow than they did deep. Some came on squarebills. Some came on jigs. Some came on plastics. One came on a buzzbait. I believe I've washed my hands from critzer. I don't have any desire to fish there any more. Haha, is that a better report?
  20. I didn't make it to melvern. I did make it to critzer. Fishing was tough. That is all.
  21. The store in springfield is over the top. I've been to a number of other stores around the US and they can't touch the springfield store.
  22. I used to do the same thing when I was young, and I can remember my first trip to bass pro shops with my family. Talk about a thing of wonderment.
  23. They threw the word 30mph gusts in the forecast. No thanks. And so, I'll be looking around elsewhere to fish and try to stay out of the wind. Wunderground has mound city listed at 10-15 mph winds listed for sunday opposed to 30 mph gusts in melvern. I'm not sure how the wind could be so much different down there, but if the forecast stays like that I may end up trying critzer again. Hooray for trees.
