  2. LMAO... only problem is they don't like bass fishing?
  3. wait a min MR TWISTER... is it the one that gives off the little bubbles? i had one of those, just one though when i was a kid i got it with a bas fishing video and i swear the biggest bass i ever caught was on the first cast with the thing and on the second cast i lost it. haven't been able to find em since, might have been first cast luck but i was like really thats it one fish and gone never tried it again since. i should have jumped in for it.
  4. if you had to money to buy a $40 lure, you had the money to loose $40.. on the other hand id probably be jumping in for it anyway. it would be funnier if his guest on there was like "oh man i snagged the fence again"
  5. get what you mean though, next time i get a trout with something hanging out its... ill make sure to gut it open nicer and see if it did create much for inner damage... kinda surprising how some of that stuff makes it threw to begin with... i guess if it did do damage it wouldn't be much different from gut shooting a deer, its going to take a while but its going to die.
  6. cant say that i have, id remember if i caught a dead bass... if i did catch a dead bass i might not go fishing there anymore and i wouldn't tell to many people about it either....
  7. i was catching tiny schoolie striper after striper one day, got annoyed at one point and soon as a got a little bite and i let the bail go soon after she started to run and i was like ah ha Im going to see if i can set the hook hard enofe to launch one of these out of the water. i slapped the bail closed and when i set that hook i don't even know what my face looked like but i wish i could have seen myself that day, it was 42".
  8. person decked out in all orvis gear, with rod and reel to match LOL just out there to live that fly fishing dream without any questions in the mind except...............what that? "a tippit" whats a tippit?
  9. LMAO.. what the crankbait. whats this line hanging out there start pulling it in and i dont think this trout had a good week but wow . be careful gutting out trout, aaaaaaaaaaaaa sweet a J7,
  10. also don't try to break braid line with the rod, the rod has a better chance of breaking before the braid LOL how many people rip and pull and jerk and go nutty with the rod when there stuck to try to break loose there lure or try to break the line.
  11. to add to this list of reasons rods break, heat is a good one. don't leave them in your car on that hot day, lean them up against a truck hood or hot leather boat seat etc etc etc that's of course hot from the sun beating on it and etc.. it will damage the blanks integrity. doesn't take much, if you feel like testing it out... take an old rod that you are willing to break of course. take a lighter and run put the flame on the tip end of the blank for a second maybe less and then bend the rod and it should break. even just rubbing your fingers for a bit on the first couple inches from the tip and create a little friction heat on the blank and then bend it and it will probably snap. the thinner the walls on a blank also doesn't help with heat either, takes allot less heat to damage thin wall performance.
  12. just cuz your a kid doesn't mean you now less than adults either LOL don't be afraid to remind us of what works.. heres a story.. i was fishing last year, just went out for bass for fun. and for an hour of nothing i was like really there should be bass right in there, there always in there. then this young kid walks up and is like your cast is perfect presentation perfect and the lure is good choice and how your fishing it is perfect but your not going to catch a bass doing that today, they will only shock strike, try throwing it right in there hard. i was like? ok now kids are teaching me how to fish and i whip it in there and bang i caught a fish? kid was fishing with just a line i was like wheres your rod, it broke last month and mom hasn't took him to get a another new one and it been tuff getting to the fish, i was like ok im going home here is a rod have fun. so my advise is you can so called dum is down a bit for us but also reserve some space for the youth, when your in a store looking at lures and the people work there confuse you and then a kid runs up the second the guy leaves and is like you don't want that, don't listn to them.. you want this for that that for those days this color for that and this is that and thats a gimmick stick to these patterns and etc your like woah slow down kid i cant write this stuff down that fast.
  13. on the other hand ive run into a few that never shot any bucks never seen a buck in the woods for years of hunting and then they get a spike horn and there is no question in there mind, there mounting it and smile all the way to the taxidermist, im always like wow do i feel like a spoiled brat.
  14. that's why some of the clubs ive hunted that have to many deer or trying to have more mature bucks have the buck mount rule.. you shoot a buck it getting mounted, because lets face it when someone has 8 does in there field and the second a spike horn walks out, bang !!!! really why? theres a deer problem here you need meat shoot 4 of those does not Bambi. and the same people wonder why they never get the big buck, and then they have the nerve to complain why do i have to mount this its not a big buck, really you should have though about that before you pulled the trigger.
  15. leave that rod alone, forget you even though of all this. the rods fine its not broken don't fix it.
  16. yea but whole new problem now, its a GLX and he hasn't done this stuff before.. nice rod as is but its a high performance blank. the walls are pretty thin, right in manufactures build recommendations they say to underwrap guides the first 20 some of inches from the tip because the walls are so thin that you could put the guide foot right threw the blank.. its not a nice work friendly rod at all it will be subject to damaging the blanks integrity easier when doing this stuff. not to mock the glx line at all but as for a beginners project its not a blank i would suggest without experience and even with experience your playing dodge ball doing this stuff with that blank.
  17. if eva is an option it will make life easyer for ya, i wouldn't bother with the cork unless i was to strip the rod down and do it correctly... eva though get em in an id small so its going to fit good n tight... just tight enofe to where your going to need to soap it up to get it on there, work it on and thats that. just scuff up the blanks paint a little but if it has some old glue and stuff left on there you dont need to scuff it just get the handle on there, its not going anywhere as long as you make sure to get the right grip id to where you can work it on with a fight. its not going anywhere you don't need glue i mean really it took soap and elbow grease to get it on... its on there. the foregrip you will probally glue though by the time you get that all the way up there to where it need to go it should be perfect fit for working the glue in... the rear grips though shouldnt need it. unless it a split grip then maybe drop some glue in the rear butt cap end anyway, the rear grip to the reel seat should still be a tight fit there and it not going to want to back down the blank it gets thicker there and the reel seat going to stop it from crawling up the blank.. and if its a full length rear grip well good luck working all that grip on but ounce it on its there till you cut it off.
  18. that's a tiger wrap.. came out good.. took as close a look as a picture allows and its a good clear picture, it looks good. but it not finished man you still need to coat it to get the final look, the purple i guess will bleed threw and darken? given you a crown royal tiger?. good color pattern to it. i like purple, nice rich royal color, fit for a king. for a wrap that has a mind of its own you cant ask for more... i done a few and its been 50 50 odds so far for me sometimes it turns out the way i though and sometimes that new color combo is like yea it should stripe out nice and it doesn't stripe out the way i though and have to re-do it like wow who would have though mixing those colors would create that ugly of a cat.
  19. you basically kill him by being out of water, there is no pretty and quick way i can tell you to do it. i held the last trout i mounted till she was gone, it took a while but i didn't want her to bang around in a box till it was dead.
  20. if its skin, if you can get it there that day or at least the next day the latest, wrap the fish in a wet towel and then sit it into a cooler full of water and ice.. you do not want the fish to be in direct contact with ice thats why you wrap it in a towel, the ice will burn the skin. if your not getting it there sooner than later. wrap it in a towel, soak the towel full of water then put it into a trash bag add a little extra water in there and into the freezer she goes.. bring it to the taxidermist frozen in the towel as it is and its his job from there. after you catch the fish be gentle, yea he is dead or going to be yea but he will still bruise and etc.. don't let him bang around the boat, don't beat his head in with a club to kill him, don't gut him out. don't do that stuff..
  21. oooooooooooooo this is a mouth full. not saying it will do nothing because it could have a big affect or none at all.. considering your cutting 3" and thats below the reel seat? more or less you will not see a difference at all. you will get the bigger difference from the real seat now moving up the blank 3" because more or less the action starts there. i don't think your going to get what your looking for by doing so and if you did its at a point where its not worth it and more on that below. first off how you going to save the handle and reel seat and not damage the blanks integrity.. boil it NO WAY you heat that blank and thats it and sitting it in hot water long enofe to break the epoxys hold NO your going to heat the blank... you see great ideas like that and stuff online and on rod building forums. but after saying soak in hot water they also say pull it strait off dont twist the handle or you will damage the blank well if twisting it will damage it the the integrity is already damaged... if you want to save the handle BOIL it. but even then you still might not be able to save it all, the cork might fall apart becuase the rings are just glued together or the grip id will be to big for its new location etc,, most factory rods the grip fit is poor anyway and they build it up with cardboard or something, there not fitting these things perfect there down and dirty assembling them but the reel seat might be worth something i snagged reel seats off old rods sale rods before cuz i liked them. if you want to save the blank cut the handle off with a really dull stiff knife eva or cork it all cops of in under a min nice and easy but your not going to re-use it... then flash cook the reel seat real fast with a blow torch, doing so your only heating the reel seat and then wearing a glove twist and pull twist and pull off if it doesnt go give it another flash cook and twist and pull, the blank is not damaged because you never heated the blank just the reel seat and it doing so just the epoxy bonding to the reel seat is weaken and the blank is in perfect condition because you never heated it at all... but one thing for sure your not going to re-use the reel seat unless its aluminum. if you boil it for 10 min your heating everything in the water equally including the blank and yea well there ya go throw the rod in trash if its a wood insert seat chip and crack the seat off with a chisel and remove the hardware with the torch method if its a skeleton seat probably just a fast hit with the torch to just the hardware being careful to no let the flame wave near the blank i mean aim it like a gun and just shoot the hardware probably be better to use a small pocket torch if your not used to using a real torch for those skeleton things... try though at first to see if you can work it off without any heating, depending on the person who assembled the rod it might not take much more than a few mins of elbow grease.. so now you need a handle and reel seat... lets say $20 now plus shipping and that's a good price you can pay more allot more for a handle, the one you have will probably cost more to replace if you want the same one... so now you total $30 plus all that work and stress i just put you threw and you could have went to bass pro and for the extra $30 you would have a whole new rod that fits the action your looking for.
  22. either it was done poor or to much heat,,, don't put them in direct sunlight and don't put them over a fireplace that you use... that's what will ruin a mount quick, that and oil from your hands, don't touch it. mine still look like the day i caught them. before getting a skin mount done, just ask the taxidermist if he does any museum work. if there getting mounts from him then his work is top notch.
  23. i don't think its wrong, not at all. its a trophy to you, you want to display it and etc, in a way your respecting it on art level. the only shame end of it is that its dead and you didn't eat it but on the other hand a mount is kinda more than food it last allot longer it something you look tords and call your trophy. its an art form, taxidermy is an art. in general fake mounts are fake, there is a difference but its not a bad solution to a moral issue with mounting a fish... with a fake mounts you cant get the same detail in the fins, gills, mouth and body texture.. there is a big different in the art. also you don't have to catch that fish for them to make you a fake mount. a real skin is going to cost you allot more to have done. the fake come as cookie cutter projects, all a taxidermist has to really do glue the fins on them and air brush it, they would rather make fake fish all day there less time in it and just as much money for them if not more. anyone with an air brush can mount fake fish really, just send them the specs and order it, assemble and spray. if you can make a simple model plane you can mount your own fake fish.
