  1. I'm 69, just had 2 eye surgeries in Jan. Wow, I can see again but, everything is so bright it gave me bad headaches. So, being an "undumb" old fart, I asked my Dr. about "what sunglasses" His answer was super simple. Buy the best UV protection you can find. "afford?" no, the best you can find. Polaroid? Yes. $100-$200? I don't know yet. I am just starting to drive again and have not looked yet. Funny, I asked about brand and he would not commit.
  2. Well, it's got Bass Ale in the pubs. Wrong answer?
  3. You do know that some of us up north have been sticking pins in little dolls with names like "Bubba" and "Billy Joe Dick Bob" since you started taunting us last fall. I saw that Guntersville had enough ice for a car to drive on it years ago. This may be the year that it happens again. When we have long winters, half frozen minds can be a dangerous thing.
  4. "Cover your Bass" was an old Basspro T shirt and adds from 90's catalogs which featured some well endowed young girls. That went on for a few years and then Basspro became more family friendly and those pictures went away.
  5. I have only been bass fishing for about 20 years. When I started mono was the only line available. Trilene? Stren? Braid came out about 96-97? Spiderwire and Fireline. were the newest and best according to all talking heads and I showed upon Rayburn with my reels filled with a whole lot of $ worth of line. My guide looked at my reels and said "your gonna riplips" and I did. Lost my PB on that trip because I depended on the line not to break because I was stupid. Fast forward 20 years. I love PP braid on my spinning reels and my one slop rod, but I just don't like it on anything else. I use P-line cxx on moving bait reels and Trilene XT on contact baits. On BC reels, I am a mono and co-poly lover. Hell, I'm 69 and too old to even understand 3/4 of what you young farts are talking about on BR. But, I love bass fishing and keep on keeping on.
  6. $45.00 in a company tourney for big bass.
  7. brgBassmaster, if your willing to travel to the U.P., pm me. I grew up in the U.P. and know of a couple of unbelievable smallie lakes. I make an annual "smallie quest" every year and do well.
  8. I know, I know, I know, What was the question?
  9. Try P-line cxx, 10 lb. The best of both worlds.
  10. X2 Frog, I wonder if he does brain surgery in his spare time? I can only fit 1 car in my 2 stall.
  11. Well, there goes my houseboat on the Mississippi River which I planned to keep in Wisconsin until Oct. and then have a crew take it down to KY. lake on the Tenn. river. Fish all the lakes on the Tenn. river system and arrive on Guntersville in late summer for the frog bite. Then fish back to Wi. for the great Oct. fishing. Rinse and repeat. Guys gotta have a dream don't they?
  12. I live in Wisconsin, have a cabin about 70 miles north of Green Bay and fish a whole lot of National Forest lakes. Bass population in most of these lakes are so/so. I have 3 or 4 go to baits. #1 a wackey rigged 4" senko either pumpkin (clear lakes) or black/blue flake (less clear lakes. #2 Most of these lakes have very little structure. A shakey head worm in the same colors. #3 A 1/4 oz. rattletrap in any bluegill like color and #4 a top water in the early am and just before dark. Good luck, I hope you do well.
  13. Alone, I didn't suggest a remote to disable jet skis , I suggested a LAZER with the power to melt the motors into piles of useless metal on the bottom of the lake. And when they map the lake it will be called structure and hold fish. An the dipweed who buzzed me will have a psychic experience and never ever get on one of those $%%&&*^%# things again.
  14. Just stay neutral on the political side and teach true American history. Then you can say you are a TEACHER. Good Luck and God bless.
  15. I am making my second trip to Guntersville March 20-April 4. Last year our guide (2 days) had us using Xcaliber Xr-5 in royal shad and chart/white spinnerbaits. Not questioning his advice. We caught a few fish and still have those to use. Just wondering if any of you BR guys who fish Guntersville have an opinion on what else might work at that time? Swimjigs/color, Soft plastics/color, anything else? Thanks a whole lot for any information you are willing to pass on. The main reason I'm asking this is because we will be there for 4 days before we can get our guide and would love to catch a few in those 4 days.
  16. Love those old pistols. Today the pros are using those "whippy" fiberglass rods for cranks. Put 10-12 lb. Trilene XL on it ( that was what they used back then) and use it for what ever moving baits you use and enjoy it the way your Dad did 40+ years ago.
  17. Hootie, I have been using P-line cxx forever on all my crank, spinner bait, etc. reels. Trent is wrong , it is a co- poly line and has a great strength to diameter ratio. Not only that, it's "durn cheep" A 600 yard spool of 10 lb. is about $18 at most shops.
  18. The spool shims were started by Shimano back in the early 2000's when fluorocarbon line became more popular. When I bought my first #2500 series Stradic, I asked the same question. I have a tackle company sales rep who is a good friend and sells Shimano. He did the research and Shimano told him that mono would " lay down on a spool" but " fluoro" needed to be spooled a different way because ( remember this was in the early life of fluoro) was harder and wouldn't. I have 4 packs of those shims in my reel parts box because I ended up buying 4 Stradics. Never put fluoro line on them. Used Trilene XL mono until I discovered Power Pro braid and never looked back.
  19. We have a music box that plays "It's a small world after all" that my Daughter picked up when she was an intern at Disney World. After my youngest grandkids are here for a few days, I need push toothpicks in my ears, anything to get rid of that-that-that-that........ #$$#@^%$* freeking song.
  20. Well, I guess the rest of us just better do what Trent says cause we sure don't want to look stupid.
  21. Great question. Answer a little harder. Darn, having fished a whole lot of the Bassmaster top 100 lakes over the years, I now have plastic boxes with labels with lakes rather than colors.ie: Rayburn, sourgrape and PBJ lizards and trick worms. Tablerock, smoke 4in. grubs and purple back jerks. Ky.Lake, pumpkin majic zoom lizards and green pumpkin shakeyhead worms. Big "O", White spinnerbaits and junebug worms. Toho, I never figured it out but caught my PB on a white 1/4 oz. spinnerbait. ( 7-14) Guntersville it was an E-caliber ex5 in royal shad and a chart/white spinnerbait. Bay of Green Bay (home waters) Motoroil 4 in. grub, tube. I was a marshal when the elites were on Green Bay two summers ago and paired with Greg Vinson. Really nice guy but all he did was fish a 3" senko (ya 3") an a dropshot for 8 hours. All day I wanted to yell at him to throw a tube or a grub. ( you can't do that as a marshal) He didn't make the cut. Mississippi River, my favorite place to fish is al about shad. Spring, summer, and more so in the fall so shad colored anything will work. Wow, what a rant.
  22. AJ, when you used the word "multifaceted " I knew I was on the wrong thread because of my limited edumacation. As for the OP question , Just go fishing. Some days I catch 30-40, some days zip/zero/nada/not a freaking thing. It's called fishing, not catching, for a reason. Good luck and I hope you have far more days of "limits" than skunks.
  23. If I'm after smallies, I just drag a tube. LM are the reason the bait chimp owns me. 100 spinnerbaits, 300+ cranks, 25 lbs. of jigs, 50 lbs. of plastics, I have a 300 acre lake in the UP of Michigan that I fish once every year for SM. All I need to do is drag a crawfish colored tube and catch from 15-30 2-4 lb. smallies a day. That's why I only fish it once a year. As for LM, I've been chasing that dream of a perfect day for 20+ years. Rayburn 5 times, Tablerock twice, Ky. lake 3 times. Toho one time. Big "O" once. This year to Guntersville for the second time and I make my 6-8 trips to the Mississippi River in Wisconsin every year. LM bass own me and my wallet. Would I change anything? Are you daft?
  24. Or a reel really. Spellcheck won't work on that one. Can you spell edumucation with out looking it up in the dickunaty?
