I live in La Mesa and love it here. I've had pretty good luck at the lakes around here. Dixon is by far my favorite. You can even rent boats there for very reasonable prices. The worlds largest bass was caught there. (25lbs. 1oz.) foul hooked so it wasnt legal, nevertheless Dixon does produce some big fish. Its not just bass either. The trout average about 5lbs and have been caught up to 15lbs. The catfish are huge, though I never fish for them. They stock the lake often with trout and that provides great feeding for the bass along with lots of Bluegill and shad. So if you fish it use those types of colors. The water clarity is great and because its not a big lake (its actually a reservoir) it makes it easier to locate them and find trends. The sight fishing while they're spawning is a blast. Ive had great success with crankbaits and jerkbaits throughout the year too. I primarily fish Dixon because the kids love to camp there and it also offers rock climbing and a nice picnic area where my wife and kids hang out while I'm on the water. The shore fishing is pretty good but for bass the boats make it a lot easier. You can look up the site online. Just google Dixon reservoir San Diego. it has fishing reports, prices, a map of the lake and lots of other info. Good luck and tight lines!
