My ultralight combo is a 5ft st croix triumph with shimano sedona 500 with 4lb sufix elite. My light combo is a 6ft st croix premier with daiwa fuego 100 with 4lb sufix elite.
My best is a 2.5lb bass on the ultralight setup, was a great fight !!
I love the rod. Works perfect for what i use it for, topwater and cranks. Pretty much all i do is throw 3/8oz sammies and 1/2oz banana boats with 15lb braid. Also is so light with a ci4 on it.
Ive brought some nice bass in on 4lb line with an ultralight rod. But 99% percent of my fishing is 10-15lb braid for topwater, and 6-8lb mono/flouro for dropshot and senkos.
I only use medium action rods and lighter, medium/light being my favorite. I use my 6'3 fenwick smallmouth rod for topwater duty and works great. But i just picked up a jackall dagored at 7/8oz and is too heavy for that rod. Plus ive been throwing frogs and losing fish due to the rod not having enough backbone. This will be my first medium/heavy and i hope it works well for bigger wakebaits, frogs, and swimbaits.
I got the 6'3 medium rod, picked it up off amazon for $90. I love the rod, its my most used. I do alot of wading and usually travel light, just this rod matched with a stradic ci4 2500 and a backpack.
I picked up that fuego 100 on the sale, its a great reel, just have to get used to a 4:7:1 gear ratio. Im so used to my shimanos at 6:0:1, the 4:7 is a bit slow.
On a $100 budget id be looking for a used stradic, i love my 1000fj which i picked up new on ebay for $130.
Im going to be throwing 1/2-3/4oz frogs, a few 5/8-7/8 topwater baits, and a few 1/2-1oz swimbaits. I know im trying to do alot with one rod but im curious what rod action would be better the extra fast or fast ? I noticed the powell is extra fast and the dobyns and crucial are fast.
