  1. I usually go 8-10ft, if your changing baits often it gives you plenty of line, and no chance of fish seeing your braid.
  2. Glad you got a chronarch darren, there great reels. I'll never let my core 51 or curado 51 go. Look around for a used core handle, its a nice upgrade so you run 4 bearings instead of 2.
  3. I like 20-30lb braid, and flouro leaders if im fishing clear water.
  4. I wanted one of these reels since the first time i saw it at the local tackle shop and then i saw the price tag, lol. I waited and waited until i found a used one at a price i could justify. Ive had mine for a few months, and it really is an amazing reel but i rarely use it. Im really a spinning guy dabbling with baitcasters and most of my baitcasting setups just stay on the rod rack. Ive decided to get rid of some of my baitcasters to finally get a stella, ive wanted one forever and feel like i can justify the purchase if i let go one of my highend reels. To answer your question better, i look at purchases two ways. One, i typically buy rods & reels that hold there value, i also go to tackletour reviews before i buy anything. If i dont like it, i know ill get my money back. And two, i look at my purchases for the long haul, paying $600 for a stella might be alot of money at one time, but if i keep the reel for 5-10 years then it was totally worth it. Good luck on getting one, and my type r is in the flea market right now
  5. I got the new 6'8 mh spinning rod at a great price so i had to pick it up. Balances perfect with my stradic 1000 fj. I had my older 6'8 m cumara out with a sustain 1000fg, and the newer rod is definitely more sensitive. Can feel alot more with the very minimal grip.
  6. Once you fish braid with flouro leaders its really hard to go back to full mono/flouro. I tried it the other day, spooled up my px type r with 8lb shooter and one of my spinning reels with 6lb copoly and the stretch in the line was amazing. The uni-uni knot is very simple to tie, just practice and you'll have confidence in your knots. Fishing braid with flouro leaders is so much better for line manageability and sensitivity.
  7. Id look for a used curado e/g....
  8. I use both but prefer spinning reels. Like diggy said, all the shimanos have higher ipt's, so you can work the bait faster. I like a 6'3 - 6'5 medium rod, 1000 spinning reel, and 10-20lb braid, makes an awesome topwater setup.
  9. I agree with quitlimpin, after I got a core 51, and a sustain 1000fg in my hands, I pretty much expect 5-6oz reels to fish with...
  10. They open and close much easier if you unscrew the cast control knob a bit.
  11. I hit the okuma booth at a fishing expo back in feb. I was excited to test this reel out solely because of the light weight and price. I was really hoping this would be a cheap alternative to the ci4. I wasnt impressed, didnt feel like a solid reel to me at all. Sort of reminded of the new sahara/symetre, flimsy and feels like it will break. I know this reel gets recommended constantly, but id go with the stradic fj. I compare it to the curado of the baitcaster world....
  12. Everyone has there preferences, ill spend the extra $80 and get the ci4 2500 thats over 2oz's lighter.... I look at my spinning reels and baitcasters the same, i want the lighest and best built reel for my money
  13. I know this gets beat to death, but pick up a curado 50/51e and you'll understand why people love shimano so much. Over the past few years ive had some pretty high end baitcasters in my hands from jdm revos, to daiwa px-r's, core 50/51's, and regular reels like daiwa alphas, lews tourney pros, chronarch 50/51mgs. And you know what i always seem to grab, that old curado 51e, lol.
  14. My go to is a 6'8 medium cumara with a 1000 size ci4 and 10lb power with 6lb leader. I also throw 4 inch senkos and the flickshake with this setup, i love it.
  15. I use the same system that darren does, power pro and pline flouroclear leaders. Really cheap in the long run, and works really well for me. I fish alot of clear water and the green mist flouroclear is an exact match. If im going out on foot or in the kayak, i bring two rods, one is straight braid for moving baits, and the other has a 8-10ft leader for shakeyhead/dropshot/flickshake. Always tie a uni-uni knot, ive caught 10lb+ fish on 10lb power pro with 8lb leaders, haven't had a knot break yet....
  16. I use regular power pro and sufix performance braid, super slick is good too but a little expensive.
