Ahhh...Luckily (knock on wood), I've never had that happen to me. I did hook a fella in the ear one time though...that story will be for a later time. haha
My personal views are that a "record fish" should only have credibility IF it's caught out of a natural environment...not some stocked "trophy pond". If you want to go catch a 10 pounder out of a trophy pond to show all of your buddies, that's fine but it shouldn't have any credibility when it comes to records.
Pretty broad question there. It depends on the time of the year, time of the day, water color, water temp etc. Most of the time, I'll start off with some type of moving bait and if I don't get bit pretty soon, I'll slow down with a jig or soft plastic.
I'm really surprised in some of the answers on here. I saw a lot of spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits. Those are two of my favorites to throw if the conditions are remotely close to being right for them. Especially a spinnerbait. I'll throw one of those 12 months out of the year. My "no-confidence bait" would have to be a tube.
I like feeling that "tick" and then jerking so hard that if he's small, he flies over the boat. You know...jerking them cross eyed as Iaconelli calls it. But that's just me.
Don't try to match him. Try to throw something similar to what he's throwing, but different. For example, if he's skipping docks with a jig, throw a senko or a shaky head. If he's throwing a spinnerbait down the banks, throw a square bill. Ask him the night before what kind of stuff yall will be fishing so you won't have to take everything in the world with you.
Are you targeting spots or largemouths? The largemouths are moving up shallow. There's a gazillion docks on that lake, so make sure you have your skipping stuff ready.
So yall mean to tell me, If yall caught a 10 pounder in a farm pond yall wouldn't get all jacked up?? That's just crazy. I've caught big fish in lakes, rivers and farm ponds and with the exception of catching a giant on tournament day, they all get my blood pumping the same way. I have to admit, catching a big fish on tournament day is a little more exciting.
Is it just me, or was the name of that tournament this past week a little much?
"The Dick Cepeck Tires Bassmaster Elite on Lake Seminole Presented by Hardees"
I know they have to pay the bills, but that's a little crazy. I bet it took Dave Mercer three weeks to remember that. haha
I rarely use a t-rig much anymore unless I'm flipping or pitching around cover where they won't bite a jig. I like using a shaky head around deeper sparse cover. I have started using bigger football head with a creature bait more if I think there's bigger fish to be caught in place of a shaky head b/c 90% of the time I'm using a shaky head, I'm using lighter line.
I feel like I'm probably the opposite of what I should be. If it's a big one, I'll try to get her in quick as I can. If it's small I'll play with them. Weird huh.
