Caught a decent Northern on Sunday using rooster tails while fishing for bass. 18 or so inches

Thanks Slone. Any tips on locations? I usually go to Lake Barrington, a gated community where my grandma lives. It is quite easy to catch bass. Otherwise I am on the Chain, primarily Pistakee and surrounding bays. I shore fish. Any pointers would be appreciated. Also, have you ever been to Three Oaks Recreation in Crystal Lake/LITH? It costs a bit of money, but was thinking of checking it our in a couple weeks. They open in mid april

By jigs do you mean jig heads or some sort of skirted jigs. I am new to the sport, and have heard people say jig this, jig that. I was in Canada over the summer and we murdered on jig heads with minnows. I have one skirted jib type bait, and it has worked fairly well for me in the past year. Any explanation would be much appreciated. Also, I went Sunday morning at 730-10. That could be a problem.

I have the same problem. Located near WI border, as well. McHenry County. Fishing the Fox, and nada. I was using carolina rigs, texas rigs, cranks, soft plastics, spoons, jigs. Anything I had was on the line, and maybe a bite. But I am pretty sure it was snags. If anyone figures this out, please keep me posted. I did not try live worms. I am unsure of how to fish them without a bobber

Hello All, You can add me to the IL clan. McHenry County, hour NW of Chicago, almost WI. It is rather odd that we are not part of the central listing. But it doesn't matter much. How's it going? Also, I am itching to fish. And as the weather is not conducive to ice fishing, is it a waste of time to throw some lines out now? I know very little about fishing, and really just starting to get into it. I know the cold weather forces them deep, but would I catch anything shore fishing this time of year?
