  1. Three guys were fishing in a lake one day, when Jesus walked across the water and joined them in the boat. When the three astonished men had settled down enough to speak, the first guy asked humbly, "Jesus, I've suffered from back pain ever since I took shrapnel in the Vietnam War. Could you help me?" "Of course, my son," Jesus said. And, when he touched the man's back he felt relief for the first time in years. The second guy who wore very thick glasses and had a hard time reading and driving , asked if Jesus could do anything about his poor eyesight. Jesus smiled, removed the man's glasses and tossed them into the lake. When they hit the water, the man's eyes cleared and he could see everything distinctly. When Jesus turned to the third guy, the guy put his hands out defensively. "Don't touch me!" he cried. "I'm on a disability pension".
  2. I go to any body of water, just say where and when; then I can work out the logistics.
  3. I was looking at the town of Alcoa and found a large plant that has train tracks going into a building; I know Alcoa produces aluminum products but I was wondering if this plant produced anything in particular like foil, cans, or sheet material. The plant is directly across Rte. 129 from McGhee airport. I was actually thinking Maryville looked like a good area, it's close to the airport (good for when the kids want to visit) and medical facilities in Knoxville (us'in old timers need good medical facilities you know) and I found a good ramp 20 mi down Rte. 72.
  4. Well Search isn't working, so I can't tell if this has been posted or not. But who really cares anyway........... A RETIREE'S LAST TRIP TO PUBLIX Yesterday I was at the Villages' (an area north of Orlando full of retirees) Publix (our large food chain in Florida) buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Owen, the Wonder Dog and was in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had an elephant? So because I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse, I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and that the way that it works is, to load your pants pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete, (certified), so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I had stopped to pee on a fire hydrant and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Publix won't let me shop there anymore. Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the World to think of crazy things to say.
  5. I've been looking at the Knoxville area on Google Earth; I've found ramps with lots of bass boats which tells me there must be clubs around the area. can you tell me what they make at Alcoa?
  6. Post 228 Happy New Year everyone.
  7. I spent an hour last evening on Google Earth looking around the Knoxville/Maryville area; the area has a good airport, hospitals, shopping, etc. It's worth a closer look. If I win the Mega-Millions tonight I'm gone...........
  8. How do I find this area on a map? I'm also retired and would like to find a good fishing area with a low cost of living index.
  9. Yes, there are plenty of "what-ifs" out there.... I was thinking of a loop antenna in the ceiling of vehicles, over the driver, that emits a low power dampening field for cell signals. I have no issue with the process of natural selection, except when that process includes collateral damage to innocent people. Boy, am I glad I'm no longer a traveler from what I read on the news about cell phone use on planes; I would go nuts setting next to someone on a plane who was chatting on a cell phone for long periods.
  10. Your post made me stop, and look at each digit, on the sign while thinking..... WHY!!! What a senseless waist....
  11. Why can't they come up with a car feature that will kill a cell phone signal when the car is in motion? Just the other day I was behind a older man driving and talking; while doing so, he drove onto the shoulder on the left and crossed half of his car into the next lane on the right. Other cars held back to avoid him. He only gave up his phone when several cars continuously blew their horns at him.
  12. I hope no one takes this post as a political statement, it's not; it's just a remembrance of a very sad day for our country. One year ago tomorrow, on December 14th, we lost 26 fellow Americans to violence at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. We lost 20 innocent young children, and six dedicated school workers. To mark the anniversary of that senseless tragedy, Please honor those lost at Sandy Hook with a moment of silence tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. ET.
  13. It's called Chum, and is used to attract fish to your area. When I was a teen we would clean our catch and grind the leftovers (using an old hand crank meat grinder) into a plastic bag inside a 5 gal bucket. We would put the bag in a horizontal freezer for storage. On the next fishing trip we would take the bags, punch holes in then, and hang them over the side of the boat. As the icy mix melted it would leak from the bags and in a while we would have fish around the boat. It worked while fishing at anchor, drifting, and slow trolling. As for crabbing, we would hang a chum bag from the dock and give it some time to work (attract the crabs), then we would crab using chicken necks.
  14. I can't believe you've given up after only seven posts! Give it time, some will need to see where the event will be located before they know if they can do anything to help. Lake Moomaw sounds good to me, I have a friend that lives near to it.
  15. Also, you'll eliminate a lot of areas that offer no fish holding structure at all, just flat mud bottom. Go with whatever system you feel most comfortable with. I went with Lowrance because I knew the keys and menus. HB makes a good product also.
  16. I just upgraded from a 2003 Lowrance LMS-320 to a HDS-7 gen 2 with structure scan. So far so good, but I'm still going through the learning curve. If I had the money I would have gone with a larger screen; but my plan is to start with the 7 on the console and then move it forward when I can afford a larger unit for the console which will integrate with everything I have in place now. I thought the combo price for the 7 and SS was good and in my budget so I went that route, but beware, the add-ons mount up quickly. As to your question - Yes it is worth it, you'll find bottom structure you never knew was there, you can split screens or go full screen quickly. A larger screen would make it easer to see the small details. Like I said, I'm still learning how to use the unit, but so far, I'm glad I made the jump. Get the best unit you can afford.
  17. I have lost my Mercury decals to UV damage, they curled at the edges and became very brittle; I understand it's a problem with Mercury decals, and they want $240.00 for replacements. So I replaced them with large BR decals I got from Glenn. Also, the top of my cowling turned white from UV damage. I buffed it off with an auto rubbing compound and waxed with Mothers. I now use a spray on cleaner from BPS which contains a UV inhibitor and use an engine cover when the boat is parked.
  18. An elderly couple were invited to an old friend's home for dinner one evening. The lady of the house was impressed by the way her lady friend preceded every request to her husband with endearing terms such as: Honey, My Love, Darling, Sweetheart, Pumpkin etc. The couple had been married almost 70 years and clearly they were still very much in love. While the husband was in the living room, she leaned over to her guest and said, "I think it's wonderful that after all these years, you still call your husband all those loving pet names. The elderly lady hung her head "I have to tell you the truth", she said, "His name slipped my mind about 10 years ago and I'm scared to death to ask the cranky old basshole what his name is."
  19. "We're getting granite counter tops." That's that same thing my wife would say.....
  20. Many years ago I was told that when you greased the prop shaft, remove the forward thrust hub to clean and grease the shaft in that area also so the hub doesn't seize up on the shaft. But, in truth, none of the DIY'ers I know take that extra step.
  21. I personally don't use a torque wrench on my prop, even though I own several; I just tighten until its firm and then back off until the tabs align.
  22. It was indeed, I was impressed. When I sent my first email they responded the next day with some questions. So I took some photos and measurements and sent a reply. The next morning I got a call from Roger. Both Keelguard and Roger asked me to stay in touch and let them know how I made out. I'm hoping to get on the water in the next few day so I can close the loop with them. I hope everything works.
  23. Acetone worked well for me, but what I couldn't get with the Acetone I had to power sand off with some 220 grit disk. I didn't know 5200 came in S L O W setting or FAST setting and the first 3oz tube I got from West Marine cured in 7 days. I needed more so I went to a big box store and found a larger tube of the fast setting that cured in 24 hrs for half the cost of the small tube. The instructions for the 5200 say you have to use the tube within 24 hrs after puncturing the foil seal, is that true?? I failed to mention that the Keelguard installed on my boat was eight feet long; two feet longer than recommended for my boat, so I cut off two feet. Let me tell you that two feet was hello to get off; the 3M adhesive they use is some mean stuff.
  24. It took me a while to understand your responce. I had the Megaware KeelGuard installed and it stops six feet in front of the transducer; the Hamby's Beach bumper I believe is shorter and does ride out of the water at WOT. Here is part of the responce I received from KeelGuard. "..............Ranger installs both the Hamby’s Beaching Bumper and the Megaware KeelGuard on their boats with no issues. However, they install 6 foot lengths. If yours is longer, or installed such that it terminates further back, then there could be a potential for cavitation. After discussing your situation with Roger Sutterfield at Hamby’s, he suggested the option of filling the grooves or channels of the rear portion of the KeelGuard with 3M 5200 adhesive to smooth out that area. .................." I received a phone call from Roger Sutterfield of Hamby’s Beaching Bumper soon after I sent my email to Megaware. Roger was very helpful and gave me detailed tips on things to try. I discovered that Megaware and Hamby's are good friends and as Roger has had more experance with bass boats, Megaware sent the question to him. Both companies appear to have some really great people on staff. I completed the suggestions Roger gave me but just haven't had an opertunity to get on the water as yet, I'll let you know how it goes.
  25. When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the shed, the boat, Making beer.. Always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said, "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway." The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.
