  1. Hello Vinny, I find working with Spinnerbaits is a balancing act where speed (or lack of it) is a big factor. You can use small blades and go fast, or use large blades and go slower. What you don't want is to roll (twist) the bait as it is retrieved, that's indicating to much speed for the combination of weight, blade mass, skirt and trailer mass. While on the fall the same is true for the rate of decent of any given weight of lure, say for a 3/8 oz lure, a smaller blade will allow it to drop (helicopter) faster than a larger blade; and blade type comes into play as well. Similarly, a large skirt and trailer can cause a Spinnerbait to become unbalanced and flip over on the fall. This is something you can experiment with in a swimming pool or a clear lake, use a face mask and get in the water so you can see how the "machine" and all of it's parts operates as it swims or falls (it's a fun thing to do). Now the question is long arm or short arm? Good fishin' Eric
  2. IMHO I seem to do better with something that produces a "low frequency and strong" vibration in muddy water rather than a "high frequency quick" vibe; think thump, thump, not tic, tic. and go slower than you normally would for the water temp. I usually go straight to my spinner baits with the largest (number 5 or 6) Colorado or Willow leaf blades and a large trailer to add bulk then slow-roll it through the area. Good fishing' Cheers,Eric
  3. Ya, and a lot of grey hair; and maybe even a twitch. Just go fishin' and take them with you Cheers, Eric
  4. Aw, it's not as bad as it was years ago, it would drive you out of the area if the wind changed Be very careful around FoxFerry, the MD side from the dock down to Pendrods Cove can be dangerous at low tide. Good fishing' Cheers, Eric
  5. LOL, ya I remember those old cars. I dated in a 56 cheve myself.
  6. How's the parking been at Gravely Point? During the week days the lot can get full of commuter parking. Last fall I got some nice SM around bridge pilings, and at the power plant discharge. Cheers, Eric
  7. The only thing I can add to the quote is "viibration" and lots of it. My go to bait in your conditions would be a twin spin, chartreuse, spinnerbaits with a trailer hook. Work where cover changes, I.e. grass to wood, rocks to grass, weed line next to a sharp drop off into deep water. Good fishing' Cheers,Eric
  8. LOL, good catch Rocbass, I sure as H wouldn't enjoy that either :,( Proof reading is not one of my strong points Cheers, Eric
  9. YES! This is exactly what I'm looking for!! When did they first put this in?? Is it at buoy 30? Don't know why they refer to this as the upper Potomac? I wonder what they call the Potomac above Great Falls?? Brian, thanks for sharing this with me. Cheers, Eric
  10. Yes, your right, I see the date now... How did it resurface as a new/ unread post?? in the Intro section?? Cheers, Eric
  11. Thanks Brian, Two weeks ago this coming Monday I was working the mouth of the Mattawoman and the temp at DM-3 was 43.5. I wish we had some water monitoring stations that gave more than just tides, i.e. temp, currents, turbidity, etc. The only "Smart" buoy I know of is just off Point Lookout on the Lower Potomac . Cheers, Eric

  19. I knew of one guy that would remove the back seat from the family car just before his daughter took it out with friends. His thought process was no one could use the back seat - for any reason- and it kept the number of kids in the car down. He failed to realize just how adaptable kids are. Cheers, Eric
  20. Yes you can see a Thermocline at times if it's a strong delta and your electronics are set correctly, and the temp on a depth finder is only the surface reading, and that's great for a start; but sometimes its nice to know what's going on down below where the fish spend most of their time. IMHO Over the years I have seen remarkable temp deltas in holes on tidal creeks where I thought the current would negate such a thing; I found the out going tide/current flushed over top of the colder water, and that meant a different habitat than the rest of the area. Fish can relate to a Thermocline just like they do to structure. I can see the suspended fish that I pass over, however, I don't have side-scan yet so I don't see the ones relating to the TC and a sharp drop on the sides. Bottom line, I'm just nosy Cheers, Eric
