As I've said previously I sold off all of my guns quite some time ago, mainly to help protect my children and give my wife and I some peace of mind over the issue. (I didn't have and could not afford a gun safe at the time), we had lost most all of the shooting ranges in my area, and at the one or two that were left police would spot check shooters to insure compliance with state laws on transporting firearms and issuing tickets for "improper storage during transport" (intimidating shooters).
Around here open pit sand & gravel mining is common and there were several that allowed shooting in the pits; but those days are over, Maryland made the land owner directly responsible for any accidents occurring on their land through court case rulings, so the pits closed to shooters. The only way we can fire our weapons that I know of at this time is to own a sizable piece of property or join a Sportsman's club for $$$$ a year.
Here is something I found on http://apps.carryconcealed.net/legal/maryland-ccw-state-laws.php about my state, which I have never been happy with......
[[[Maryland is not a traditional open carry state. However, should you be wealthy or connected enough to get one of the rare Maryland carry permits, Maryland law makes no distinction between open and concealed carry. But this would almost certainly result in the loss of the permit [[[??]]]. We consider Maryland to be one of the top 5 rights restricted states in the union. Please see http://opencarry.org/]]]
[[[Right-To-Carry Law Type: Restrictive May Issue.
The "may issue" is more often "no way". The categories for "may issue" are: making [[[bank]]] deposits; receiving money or cash flow [[[from banks]]]; professional activities like doctors or pharmacies; correctional officers; former police officer; private detective and personal protection. For personal protection there must be documented evidence of recent threats, robberies, and/or assaults, supported by official police reports or notarized statements from witnesses [[[not accepted on face value, each witness is investigated/ interviewed/ intimidated to confirm their statements]]]. This state also requires permits for body armor.]]] Also, Maryland is very unfriendly to out-of-state owners.
My response to loosing my Constitutional Right at the time was to put it out of my mind, after all, there were few places to shoot and most were 45 Min to an hour away, the kids were getting older, and money to reload & shoot was scarce.
Bottom line, don't move to Maryland if you want to carry.
So if I were to get a weapon I would be limited to home protection I think, and if I did I was thinking about a Berette Cougar 8000 series but can't decide on a caliber. Suggestions??
