  1. Ouch !!! Let me guess, it was snagged - you pulled it free - and it shot back at you, so you put your hand up to protect your face??? Again, Ouch!!!!
  2. IMHO, I hope we can meet members from other states, not just VA. I, myself, am a MD boy who would cross the river in a heartbeat to attend the VA M&G. So, I hope we'll see members from other states as well. We can't let these VA boys have all the fun....
  3. These are very sad times, I feel as if I have lost a family member; I and my children grew up on Hostess products. As a budget saving measure my wife would shop with the kids at the local Wonder Bread store where the kids would always get a treat. I hope that someone will bring back the Hostess iconic brands in some way. A Hostess’ lawyer said the company saw a "flood" of interest from parties interested in buying its brands. I hope they come back soon.
  4. 'Not really, sir..They usually just ride the camel into town...... where the girls are.'
  5. One thing I have noticed is the Thread for the Poll does not show up under the "View New Content" and never has. I just checked to make sure, and as I type this the Poll is not listed; However, if I go to the Southeast Forum and look, the Poll is listed with a star and is marked as Hot. I think this is a problem with the Forum web site it's self, people can not see the Poll unless they frequent the SE Forum. This Thread however is visible in the "View New Content". If I am like most of us here, when I get on the Forum I first check "My Content" for new post, then I check "View New Content"; if a post is not in one of those two locations I don't see it. EDIT: 11/19/12, 13:14L, I just sent a PM to the Mods asking if they know why we can't see the Poll under "View New Content". EMM
  6. I'm afraid the Internet is going to kill the small shops, it's just a matter of time. I will shop local first, end of story; but if I can't find what I'm looking for my options are, ask to have it ordered, or I'll revert to the Internet myself which is usually much faster. The most recent example of this is when I was looking for Space Monkeys. No one in my area had them, I hit all the local stores - nothing. I asked if one shop could order them for me but they had just placed a restocking order and would not submit another one for a while, maybe a month. So I went home and fired up the computer and ordered from Tackle Warehouse in just a few minutes. Then, sometimes the small shop is just not interested in carrying certain items like lure making supplies. In that case I go straight to the Internet and do my shopping. I think the only saving grace the small shops will have is last minute - on the way to the lake - shoppers, but that will not in the long run meet the bills.
  7. LOL, Heck yes, your not on ebay yet?? your wasting time here, get them posted with a high reserve.... Wait, those aren't your baby toys are they???????
  8. Don't give up so easily, maybe you hit them at their busy times; I've not had a problem and I'm not a "good Ole boy" by any means. Anyway, their not so little any more, I hope they don't go the way of the larger stores. I also hit BPS just a mile up the road, and their people are good - so far - if I ask a question or I'm looking for something - and they don't know, they'll ask someone else to get a answer. The Dick's and WM here in town are hopeless, if you find someone to help you most times they don't know where their products are or what they are. And they'll never order something for you cause the people at HQ do the ordering. I forgot one place I have nearby down in southern MD, I've been going there since the early 80's; it's call the Tackle Box. This is your old time sports store where you have to squeeze down the isles, the shelves are loaded, and stuff is setting on the floor. It's a fun place to shop. One thing about the small shops - if they don't have what your looking for they'll order it for you.
  9. Really, I learned something new today I don't think I've seen that before, or if I did, I didn't know how it was ridged. I've only punched through mats with TX rigged worms or weedless jigs with a verity of soft plastics. Thanks
  10. Wouldn't that truck make a great tow vehicle/camper?
  11. A-Jay !? What's it's used on/for?? Remember, I'm old, you need to lead me by the hand.........
  12. Well, I have shopped on-line, at BPS, Dicks, and so forth; IMHO, the smaller the shop the more knowledgeable the staff. There is a home grown shop started in 1947 in the Richmond, VA area that is about an hours drive for me; I'll make that drive one or two times a year cause I don't get any BS from the staff, they know their products. They have just moved their store by taking over a closed Gander Mountain store, I wish them well and hope they can retain the small shop knowledge their known for; and they are now within a mile of a BPS, I hope they can co-exist in the same area and BPS doesn't through in the towel like Gander Mountain did. Last time I was down in the Richmond area for a gym competition I had the opportunity to stop in on one store (it's all I had time for) guess which one I stopped at? yep, Green Top. If your in the area check them out.
  13. OK, you have my curiosity up, what is a "punch hub"??
  14. This is so sad, it's the only brand I buy; now what am I going to do for a good chocolate cup cake...
  15. Sounds good, go for it and good fishin'
  16. No, it wont. Many years ago I made Buck-Tailed Jigs from scratch, we used them trolling striper's on the Bay. You start out with a good hook vice that will hold the jig head steady, i.e. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/fly-tying-vises/042030200005.aspx ; then you start wrapping thread on the neck of the jig using a tying bobbin, i.e. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/fly-tying-bobbins/042044100001.aspx , then take some hairs and hold them to 25-50% of the neck and make some wraps with the thread, and repeat the process until you have the look you want; don't try to put all the hairs on at one time until you gain some skill with your fingers. I've also used Floral wire that you get in craft shops, but you have to leave a tag end sticking out to twist the wire ends closed. BTW, the spinner baits that have loose rubber bands that let the skirt slip down or fall apart are the result of the manufacture not matching the band material to the skirt material to prevent chemical interaction between the two. Basically, the oils in the skirt material leach into the rubber bands and soften the rubber which allows them to stretch out of shape. So, when buying skirt supplies you have to ask are the bands compatible with the skirt, i.e. silicone bands for silicone skirts, rubber bands for rubber skirts.
  17. What are you going to use that for??? You wont need it for spinner baits, IMHO. Just keep it simple (it a lot of fun) until you get the feel of what you want. BTW, when you place an order to Jann's ask for their catalog.
  18. If it was me, I would have said.... Many years ago, a friend told me on Xmas eve after placing gifts under the tree for the kids, his wife call to him from the top of the stairs, he looked up to see her wearing nothing but the new PFD he wanted, he watched as she slowly descended the stairs and when she got close to him he removed the PFD and.......... put it on, looking it over carefully in front of a mirror, saying "thanks honey that was just what I wanted for Xmas". He told me this as we were fishing and I laughed so hard I almost fell out of the boat.
  19. Oh no, you did this too????? LOL When, where???????
  20. Don't know that the bead assortment is necessary, I would opt for the correct bead pack. See the chart here: http://www.jannsnetc...pinnerbaits.htm
  21. IMHO tying a skirt onto a jig, spinner bait, or buzz bait is old school; you can't change the skirt out while fishing. At times I'll be fishing a bait and feel good about the blade setup/combo or what ever, but may not think the skirt color is working for me given the water color/conditions - so I'll change it without removing the bait from the line. It's like fishing a TX rig worm and changing out the worm until you find what the fish want. It's all personal opinion, do you want to change out the bait or just the skirt or blades. BTW, spinner baits have ball bearing swivels with snaps so you can also change out the blades to meet conditions. Here's the link to the kit http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/skirts-material/036625000002.aspx
  22. That's it, it's so simple. Try the skirt making kit, you'll get everything you need to get started.
