  1. FR, That's a great web site, Thanks. I'm going to make up a pot of Pulled Pork with KY Bourbon sauce... http://allrecipes.com/recipe/bourbon-whiskey-bbq-sauce/detail.aspx
  2. MD DNR Compass system; anyone here used it yet? What do you think of it? I see you now have to register on Compass and get an six digit ID number, called DNRid, to buy fishing licenses, park passes, and boat registration whether you do it through the mail or on-line. On the up side of this I just qualified for my Consolidated Seniors license.
  3. Around my area I find it in the cooler with the breakfast meats, i.e. sausage & bacon section; I've never seen it frozen. On my electric grill I do 350 for nine minutes on each side for 1/4" - 3/8" slices.
  4. I think what I know of as NC or Dixie Pork BBQ (my favorites) is the minced vinegar based you speak of, we also have the Texas style (not as popular with me), but these are all menu names around here.
  5. It's good to hear your on the road to recovery, they say when you admit your problem your half way there...
  6. X2, ya, it was a tightly packed family store.
  7. It's a small world, Largo is just up the road a bit, I would drive past the PGCC frequently on Rte. 202 going from Bladensburg to Upper Marlboro.
  8. Are you talking about 3 - 1 lb cans? This sounds like it would be really good under the broiler too.
  9. I have a question for you all......... Why do my frozen flounder filet's turn to mush??
  10. Allow me to through this into the pot Grilled fish with Bacon-Tomato Butter Ingredients Serves 4 3 tablespoons butter 2 strips bacon, chopped 2 Roma tomatoes, diced Salt Four 5-ounce portions skin-on fish fillet Directions: The flavored butter can be made in a larger batch and stored in the refrigerator for many weeks (let it soften a bit before using it)—try it on steak or as a garnish for soups. For the flavored butter, add 1 tablespoon of the butter and the bacon to a small sauté pan. Cook over medium heat until the bacon fat is mostly rendered and the meat is beginning to crisp. Add the tomatoes and cook for a few minutes, until the juices begin to release and the tomatoes break down. Remove the pan from the heat and allow to cool slightly. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons butter and mash together using a fork. This butter shouldn’t melt but rather form a paste with the tomatoes. Season lightly with salt. Prepare a grill, charcoal or gas, building the fire on one side of the grill so there are hot and cold zones. Put the fish on the hottest part of the grill and cook for 2 minutes, skin side down. Rotate the grate so the fish is over the cool part of the grill and cover the grill. Grill until cooked through, about another 10 minutes. Set a fillet on each of 4 serving plates, place a dollop of the flavored butter on top of each, and serve.
  11. I have learned over time that bi-yearly battery maintenance helps to avoid being blindsided unexpectedly by battery and other rear locker issues while on the water. As S.O.P. I remove my batteries to inspect and clean all sides of the casings (including the bottoms), terminals, check water levels, inspect and clean the battery compartment, trays, and hold-downs. All items are much more difficult, if not impossible, to do while the batteries are installed; also I inspect and clean all battery cable connectors and put fresh dielectric grease on all connections. Dielectric grease helps to delay terminal corrosion by providing a "gas tight" barrier to oxygen and moisture; I've been told it also helps keep rubber spark plug boots and cables from getting hard and cracking. I also use this time to pull my two cycle oil tank for inspection and cleaning. Additionally I check all electrical cables, oil lines, and fuel lines for cracks or other damage while working in the rear locker. Batteries take a beating while on the road and the water as few hold-down systems really secure the batteries from all movement, so it's good to spend some time giving them some TLC. Note: See my album "Traveler - Other Stuff" for pic's
  12. Wish I could, but I'd still have to do bi-yearly battery maintenance.
  13. LOL, you TN boy's have your own unusual food too. I never could get into pickled pigs feet, Hog Jowls, Okra, grits, and the like. I do love the southern fried chicken and NC pork BBQ though. Your burgers ain't half bad either.......
  14. Yes, I think I did miss that thread. I started eating scrapple as a child when my dad would fix it as a breakfast food, usually mixed in with scrambled eggs, or sometimes as a fried scrapple sandwich. I knew it as a northeastern thing. One neighbor I had as a child told me it was a poor mans food and she looked down her nose at it. Today, I usually have two one pound bricks of Rapa original Scrapple in the fridge. It's just sausage without the skin..... Try it, it good eatin'
  15. I like mine golden brown and a little crunchy, and with ketchup.
  16. LOL, naw, I often change between scrapple, spam, bacon, and pork sausage. I'll also switch between the above Scrapple, egg & cheese on a English muffin, with a side of hash-brown potato patty, OJ & coffee; to two eggs over medium, scrapple, potato patty, toast w/jam, OJ & coffee. That gets my day started. My McScrap breakfast......
  17. SCRAPPLE !! Yes, Scrapple, egg & cheese on a English muffin, with a side of hash-brown potato's, OJ & coffee.... Now that's good eatin' Some day's I'll change out the scrapple for spam.....
  18. Noooooooo, I don't have that much room and the walls aren't that strong either.......... I did however receive my new boat cover today, it's red and it looks like I have a slay in the driveway...
  19. Let's see, is it Christmas yet? Outdoor lights checked out Outdoor displays put out Lights in the windows Wreaths on the windows and door trees in the stands, one decorated so far Inside decorations are done Old Christmas movies playing on the DVD Amazon wish list up to date I don't know, Christmas may be close
  20. I was speaking with a friend last week, a young man in his thirties, who had just seriously injured his back trying to remove his deep-cycle batteries for winter maintenance. He was kneeling on the rear deck of his boat when he attempted to remove the deep-cycle batteries; the first was ok but a heavy lift, but the second was further back and proved more difficult.... That's when a hot knife plunged into his back and he couldn't move, couldn't get off the boat, and his wife couldn't move him. Long story short - The EMT's were called and transported him to the local ER where a CT/x-ray revealed a ruptured disk. So, I just want to pass along to all of you a reminder to be careful of your backs when removing batteries from your boat. The best tip I can offer is to attach a short piece of rope to the lift handles of the battery, then stand straight up and lift the battery by bending at the knees; the rope will allow you to maneuver the battery to clear the locker sides and get it on deck. Bottom line, take a few extra minutes to protect yourself from injury. Cheers, and Merry Xmas
  21. That would explain a few things
  22. That TV looks like it would be great at pool side, they said it's water proof
  23. Cedarville State Forest is the only other State Park in the area; it's 45 min from the launch at the Mattawoman creek. Cedarville is like Smallwood in that it too only has electric and no water. http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/southern/cedarville.asp Smallwood does have a parking area with electric within the camp site area for boats, and I've seen tournament anglers parallel park along the roads at the camp site with their boats. There is a water faucet along the road near the bath house for topping off tanks, and a dump station nearby as well. P.S. any days are good for me to have you visit, just let me know what works for you...
  24. "I personally could think of a much better way to spend $650,000. " That wouldn't have anything to do with fishing would it??
